I think you meant to post this on a TS4 sub-board. One of us is in the wrong place. ;)

You are also pasting from a system diag report that was generated in 2011, which is a bit odd to see.

But the answer is no, probably not. Can you play TS4 on that one at all as it is now? This is a more than eight year old desktop with an unsuitable graphics card and very few to no prospects available for upgrades that would make sense today. It would be expected to choke on TS3 and even some of the later TS2 EPs. From what we know about it, I'm afraid that TS4 Cats & Dogs would be a total non-starter here.

@igazor fill me in. I see 6 gb ram and then I see 2 gb ram. What they posted is hard for me to read. What video card? Glad you can read that LOL

Edit now I see 8400 gs

What is the total ram 6 or 2 ?
  • igazorigazor Posts: 18,667 Member
@phoebebebe13 - The day I have to teach you how to read these things has arrived? I'm scared... :'(
(yes, I know you are still using a tablet temporarily)

I see 6 GB of RAM being reported on in three separate DDR-2 2 GB modules and an Nvidia 8400 GS graphics card. But again, this report was run what seems to be six years ago (unless the computer's clock is stuck or the CMOS battery has died which would not be unusual for such an older machine).

    @igazor LOL

I do agree they would probably have issues running the EP. Windows 7 with 6gb ram is ok however the processor and video card is another story.

I agree op should invest in a new computer to run the sims 4

I now also see the DxDiag date being 2011

Sorry about posting in wrong place. So far my games having been running just fine. I am wondering about the age of my computer though. I think I need to update my tower.

Cats and dogs has upped the specs for the game. Your ram is OK since you have windows 7 though 8gb ram would be better. I don't know how this ep will effect your video card and processor but I'm sure that will come into play. I don't know if your computer can be upgraded. HP are hard to upgrade if and when they can be upgraded. @chesterbigbird is a build expert and can further advise you on possible upgrades.

Okay. Thank you. I hope to be able to run it as best as I can for now. Maybe I will be able to until I can get a new computer.

Your very welcome. I hope you can run it too. I know they upped the ram for this ep to 4 gb just for the game . You need extra ram for windows origin and other programs. What saves you there is you have windows 7 which does not require as much to run. If you had windows 8 or 10 you would be in worse shape. I just can't tell you how this ep might effect video card and processor.. We will all find out in 9 days.

I forgot to ask you this. Are you playing the 32 bit version or 64 bit version of the game? You have to be able to run the 64 bit version of the game for this ep
  • vessmevessme Posts: 479 Member
Yes I'm playing on the 32 bit version of the game. I can play on +4 bit, I think. Oh I hope I can run it. I need some stress relief theses days.

Did you test the 64 bit version?

Your pc has the slot of another graphics card, However it's a little pointless given the age of the pc and the cpu being low end you would only be able to upgrade to a lower end Graphics card to avoid a bottleneck. You would also need to replace the power supply. I would start saving for another pc if you wish to survive the full game.. as the expansions keep rolling out it's going to wear your system down.

Did you test the 64 bit version?

Yes.. it was playing well with lowered graphics in the game.

You may be able to run the ep. You won't know until you add it. I don't know what it is going to do to your video card and processor.

I apologize for asking my question in your thread, but I haven’t posted on here in forever and can’t seem to figure out how to make a thread of my own, lol.

Anyway, I’ve been really looking forward to Cats & Dogs, and for some random reason I decided to check my computer’s specs out of curiosity. I have 4 GB of ram, but it says that only 3.45 is usable? Does that mean I won’t be able to play? :(

Can you post the rest of your specs, it's not just the ram that counts. (3.5 usable means your running 32 bit.. to read more then 3.5 you need 64bit OS.)

^ How do I get the rest of my specs? There was a systems tab on my computer and based on what the OP posted, I’m not sure I was looking at the right thing with all of the info, lol.

    Hello @SimDork25
Could you please post your DxDiag info here.
To gather a DXDIAG on your computer, do this :
Press and hold the Windows key and the letter R on your keyboard
You will see a Run box in the lower-left corner of your screen
Type dxdiag in the text field
    Click OK
Click the Save All Information button, found on the bottom of the DXDIAG report
Then copy and paste the information from where you saved it, to pastebin https://pastebin.com
and post the link to the file here
