Are vampires really as obnoxious as people say?

«13
So I never really planned to buy Vampires, partly because my main save doesn't contain any supernatural anyway so I never really felt the need to have them and partly because I often read that vampires keep spawning in your game like almost every night, and I don't want my main save to be corrupted by vampires. :# But then I read some threads about Caleb Vatore and looked at some teasers out of curiosity, and now I inadvertently find myself wanting them after all. Thing is, like I said, my main save doesn't contain supernatural nor do I want it to, and if vampires kept spawning in my game every night and being obnoxious little suckers it would kind of ruin immersion for me. So, are vampires really that bad? Or, to phrase it differently, are they (still) definitely worth it?

I don't have vamps but what I gather is that it's GREAT if you're into supernaturals but if you want to play as normal sims it could get a bit boring especially since there is nothing for them to do...
But then again I don't have vampires so don't take my word for fact :D

They are everywhere, when you click on a sim there's 3 options related to vampires, I know people praise them a lot in here because of the powers and weakness system, it's great but the actual powers don't add anything interesting really. If you're not a fan of supernatural... things It's not worth it IMO.

I don't have very many problems with it. I do get the occasional Vlad breaking into my sims home and drinking from one of them, but that's quite rare. Although, if he does it once, he comes back quite often.

I'm pretty sure that if you have MCCC you can turn that off. Apart from that, they don't really bother my sims :)

No. I see them once and a while roaming around town, but they are never a nuisance in my game.

They specialise in home invasions in my game, arriving in the middle of the night to suck the life force of the sims of my active household. So a lot more in your face than previous versions of the sims.

Do you have a mod installed that makes these sort of drama events happen more? Vlad has never one time returned to suck the life force from my Sim more than once. It just doesn't happen. If you put up some garlic and maybe get high skills in vampire lore, you can fight one and they don't return. I just don't get where people say they come back every night, it just doesn't happen that way in my game. First family, first time, yes, if I open the door to let him in but never if I don't. And he never comes back a second time. Caleb and his sister aren't blood drinkers from humans, so I just don't get it.

ETA: OP, I will say it again as I am a big fan of vampires in the games, I turned two Sims in my game and honestly I hardly ever see them anymore, at first I saw them turn while they were walking down the street about three days later, but since then and all the patches I'm hard pressed to find them anywhere at any community lot. The game may generate one or two more for jobs but they are also the first to get culled when the game culls townies every Sunday.

ETA: Anyone knocking at your Sims door after dark is a vampire, just don't open the door, you will never be bothered.

Note, my Sims don't live in FH, maybe that makes a difference, I don't know.

Mine live in all the neighborhoods just like everyone else. I've never had one break in. The worst they do is come up to a door at night and knock. If I don't let them in, they just stand there and eventually go away. If I let them in, I have the sims I'm playing talk to them and it's just like any other sims visiting. They've never bitten anyone or sucked out their life force during a visit. I have one who has all the powers and she never does anything to anybody. She just stays home with her two boys.I worry more about my sim who has all the collections and the kleptos who are casing his house TBH.

I have mods to keep vampires in Forgotten Hallow. I got tired of my sims constantly being attacked while they slept and when they are on communities lots not being able to go home because "a vampire is breaking into a lot" and my sims would be stuck out until dawn. Put in that mod and haven't had any problems with vampires since. Otherwise I would have likely uninstalled it.

I have Vampires and even my super god tier vamps wont bother my human sims, been playing my human sim for like 10 hours straight and almost everyone in her family has converted to vampireism, but not her as I wanted to keep her human for other reasons, and even though she has like 6 family members who live in a different town who are all fully fledged vamps, and I do see them quite often but they tend to mine their own, mostly only the ones who can walk in sunlight will show up at lots, I can interact with them and not need to worry about vampire stuff, sure the vampire options show up in the menu, but easy enough to ignore, if I did not know I had turned them into vampires, I might not even realise they were Vampires, since they don't really do vampy stuff unless you intrude on it, I don't notice the vamps while playing my human sims any more then I notice aliens in disguise tbh.

I don't have a problem with break-ins, either. I do make it a priority to get some garlic braids up whenever I move to a new lot, but once they're in place any unwanted nocturnal visitors quickly get disgusted and leave.

I don't get nearly enough vampire activity in my main game. But I do have a very populated world, so maybe they just aren't spawning that much. I had a sim out in the city for a festival, and when it was over late into the night, and my sim's friends were gone and she wanted to go home, I got that notification that said she couldn't leave while a vampire was breaking in. So I got excited and started looking around for it, and suddenly a black streak whooshed by and disappeared into the city. I didn't even get a good look at it, but it was still a little exciting. :)

I have found, though, if you want to prevent them from breaking into your home lots and feeding on your sims, locking your doors at night definitely helps. There is a power that some vampires have that allows them to come in anyway, but not all of them have it, so it really makes a difference.

    Vampires are amazing. <3

Thanks so much for your reactions! I'll just think about it some more, but I might get Vampires after all. If my main saves can stay relatively vampire-free, I'd love to have one save that's all-around supernatural. >:) And honestly, I gotta have that Caleb.

I'm not a big fan of Supernatural in the Sims, but that's the first time I really enjoy playing them. They feel like a different life state (and that wasn't always the case for me). Besides powers/weaknesses system, I like the the dark form idea - I believe it's something that CAS-fans would appreciate ;) Building objects are pretty nice too.

If you don't want them in a Save, you will have them, ie, you will see them, and see interactions to do with Vamps in the Menus. That said, I haven't had any of them drink my Sims' blood yet. I (knock wood) haven't had the Can't-Leave-The-Lot-Because-A-Vamp-Is-Breaking-In Bug yet, either. That would be annoying. I do delete Vlad because he has the Trait to get in one's house if he is determined to. I don't know if NPC Vamps will spawn with that Trait, but if so, I'll delete them as well. I haven't seen any yet in a few weeks of playing. It's better than TS3, because they don't turn any Sim unless active and they ask, so they don't overpopulate. I don't mind seeing them around town, and I use the Build/Buy objects constantly. Caleb Vatore is a waiter at one of my restaurants, and it's a kick because he zooms around with the hyper drive walk speed. I will eventually have a go at playing them and have some storylines planned.

Don't know what that has to do with vampires invading my world and house, but no, my sims are not social people. Vary rarely do they talk to passerby's. I even cancel the welcome wagon cause I don't want random sims in my house. Generally I keep my doors locked to only allow household and employees inside.

This game works a lot like TS2 with 'triggers'. Letting in a vampire is a trigger for them to come back later to bite somebody. It's all in your control if you never let in those total strangers who just show up at night.

My sim usually gets bit once in a while but not all the time. Usually happens at the start of a save. There is a mod to control vampires roaming around neighbourhoods that arnt forgotten hollow! which is good if you want to isolate them.

Well, my sims were getting attacked 2 to 3 times a week and wouldn't even have met the vampires. It was always Vlad, Caleb, or his sister, I forget her name, starts with an L. And I never let sims in my house because my biggest pet peeve is sims just helping themselves to my sims computers instead of visiting, so we just don't have visitors.

If you want to play with vampires, you should probably get it. Otherwise not. I got it because I love playing with vampires. In my other (human) saves I've handled the vampire problem by deleting the known vampires, when I started the game. I also always save in the evening, when my sims go to bed, so I can quit without saving if a vampire breaks in. It has happened to me three times during the about four simweeks I've played that game. In those cases I check the name of the vampire, then quit, then go back to the game and delete that vampire from manage households before I continue playing. The last time I had to do it, I actually deleted all the homeless elders there, just in case, because for some reason the vampires the game spawns are always elders.

I honestly don't mind the few vampires in my game, even the break-ins I don't really care about, they don't happen often enough to be a nuisance. I even like the uncomfortable moodlet.
It's a fun and interesting pack for that.

What is REALLY annoying though, is normal sims constantly discussing vampires in every context, the options always there in friendly social (especially since space is limited the more social options we get), and researching vampire lore always, always, taking up one of the two wish slots for all my sims regardless of traits or lifestyle.

I wouldn't mind these happening for sims who have indeed researched vampire lore, and for the social options to be unlocked by that skill.
But, as is, every sim is obsessed with vampires and no amount of me trying to keep them lowkey will change that.

I have even memorized the specific dialogue animations sims do when talking about vampires, that's how much it enrages me.

I own Vampires, but I rarely ever play any. When I play a save game, I just lock the bedroom doors for Household members only and if Vlad tries to break in, he just stands there for a bit and then leaves since he cannot even get into the bedrooms of my teens, young adults, adults, or elders to drink from them. Other Vampires that spawn just knock at my Sims doors after dark (which annoys me if it's every night) and I ignore them so they leave.

When Caleb and his sister are concerned, most I do with them is make my Sims learn the cure and have them get cured to normal Sims.

They continual hangout at the front door of every sim family I play. They go back and forth, I guess checking to see if everyone is asleep and then go away. Only when I have a Sim with the Good trait do they typically come in and help themselves to anybody though.
