Asking because I watch a lot of youtubers play the sims 4 and I think I can only think of two who play without mods! Mc command is very popular.
I have two games on both PCs in our house, one has mc command, the other doesn't so it's more a test game or one I go to when new content is out and waiting updates. (Although to be fair it's not a long wait with MCCC.
Does anyone else play with a vanilla game? (Not talking about cc)

So no. I play with mods. Virtually always have that one, if nothing else.
However, the downsite is that I have to deal with whatever EA decides, which can be a challenge sometimes.
Need those things.
I have used mccc before but quit using it at the beginning of 2017 after I got a new laptop. I actually enjoy TS4 a lot more without mods.
change gamespeed to 75 to make my sims day better, thanks to that my sims had enough time to go outside.
Well, I only recently put in one mod. The CL name mod, to have english names, does nothing to the gameplay.
I try it once in awhile, but it lasts less than 10 mins at the least.
I just think maxis relies on modders too much, which in my opinion is lazy and pathetic.

That said I feel if I have to I could go no Mods and still enjoy the game. It would be tough re-learning to get used to certain things again but I do think that at the end of the day Sims 4 IS actually playable without them.
I know that you have other reasons for not wanting to use it and they are completely valid MCCC is not for everyone (no matter how much some people cheerlead it in the community). But just so you're aware there is a setting that will make it so it won't change married names on you if you don't want it to. I can go in and tell you how if you'd like.
So most of my mods are for that, fixing small nuisances, and make the game bearable to play.
I wonder if the dev team ever plays the game for longer than a few minutes at a time because if they did, surely they would realize things happening all.the.time is the opposite of fun.
Eat ice cream ? Brain freeze every bite ! Vegetarian sim eat vegetarian meal ? Notification about it ! Have children ? Monster-under-the-bed induced trauma every night !
So I mod to have a sensible game but I shouldn't have to do that.
I do agree, that Maxis should fix the gameplay issues that the game has for many players (the 8am freeze, simulation lag, detective and doctor career, etc) but I love mods and am glad that Maxis doesn't spend the time and money focusing on giving us all the options mods can. Then we'd get less attention to the gameplay features that is wanted in the game and with a mod, each individual can determine if they do or don't want that feature. Such as no auto mourning mod. It was the first mod I got for my game. I got tired of my sims, even sims that have never met the deceased, stopping actions I've queued up, to go mourn a grave every couple minutes. I literally had a moved in sim stop cooking 3 times to go mourn his grand mother in law that he had never met. I was at my wits end and ready to stop playing the game all together until I got that mod. Not everyone is going to like that feature being taken away. Not everyone doesn't like sim to auto mourn. Now, if Maxis focused on giving everyone the option to no auto mourn, that would take resources away from a possible bug fix for lag or one of the GTW careers that need fixed (example). So, yes, I do think Maxis needs to step up and fix the core problems with the game, but as for giving us more options, I'm fine with mods to the rescue. That way, we - the players - get to pick and chose what features we do and don't want or want to enhance.
