Today, I spent a little time, (okay a lot of time) trying to sort out the PBP Studios Lounge. While I like the look of the exterior I use (I redid the interior), the lighting has been nothing short of a nightmare. Either the winner stands in near shadow, or has their face illuminated so intensely, you can barely make out their features. I've replaced the lighting more than once. Nothing seems to remedy the situation. So, I grabbed a few remakes of the studio and messed around with them. I never seem to be able to leave another's work unedited. (The one I settled on had way too much pink. I've never been one to gravitate to that color. Some shades of it are very nice, but no, I stand with Merryweather on this one. I LOVE blue.) But I went with gold and black for the interior. I will end up testing it tomorrow. My Sims finally made it to Friday of the week, but I've lost my day. (Gee, I wonder how that happened.) I also spent some time recreating the Grotto, another place for Erik to hold concerts. Some of the older venues just aren't working anymore. Time to plow them down and replace them.
I was going to post an update for Alaina last night. My session was interrupted by tornadoes in the area. One just missed my apartment complex by like a mile. We were fortunate here, but others weren't so lucky. ๐
Alaina is a magical prodigy. Her skills have impressed L so much she's taken Alaina on as a special student.
Alaina is already an Acolyte. She and L. enjoy daily duels.
L: "Show me what you can do child?"
Alaina: "This!"
The ending is still predictable. ๐
L: "One day you will be great like me. Today is not that day my dear."
L. believes that in order to learn a spell you need to know how it feels. I think it's just because she's a bit of jerk sometimes. ๐
L: "Morphiate!"
They've struck up an unlikely friendship. Alaina even rolled a want to be besties with L. She also rolled a like for mischief. I usually click no on those but I decided to go with it. I've been wanting to get out of my gameplay rut. Maybe Alaina is going to be a troublemaker. That's not my kind of sim usually so we'll see what happens. I'm also trying out the mod that lets you play as the sages and to have them in your household. It works great. ๐

Beyond gorgeous builds on the gallery, but then the games functions don't work. I found this with renovating cafes, pools and other lots. I went back and brought back all the originals and I am slowly one by one building my save.

It's my Patch and Test day. It's been 2 weeks since the patch and my important mods have been updated so today was a lot of tinkering to get my six game instances working. Things are more or less in their proper order now... but when I started the process it kind of resembled this.
It's much better now.

No, not that grotto, but rather a small pub/bar I built that looks somewhat like a castle. I originally called it the Dungeon, but then thought of grotto, instead. Who knows it may yet go through another name metamorphosis.

That one last night was still a funnel cloud when I looked out the kitchen window and saw it. Going by the streets they were saying on TV it was about 1/2, maybe 3/4's of a mile away. Yikes. When my daughter lived in Kansas (her hubby was stationed there) he was deployed when a tornado raced through. I thank God, since she lived in a trailer, that it missed her.
The Other Side of the Black Hole, a NEW Erik Cantrell Save
The strange and random thoughts that clung to him like Gorilla Glue led him on a path wherein he began to think he had simply and most explicitly lost his mind. For a time he was really worried. Things like having a desire to have casual woohoo with three different women, women he didnโt know; wanting to divorce Kayleigh when there simply was no reason to do so. All of this plagued him to no end. But mostly the unwanted thoughts of being unfaithful.
He even found himself making an appointment to have a deep conversation with a trusted Elder, Father James. Redirecting his thoughts wasnโt helping. He focused more on his horses, particularly Shadowfax. There was nothing more fulfilling than having his best friend compete. So far, the stead had a Masters win in Barrel Racing, Show Jumping, and Endurance. Erik was now working on the Western Tradition category. That's what planted the seed . . .
Finally, after a time, the worrisome thoughts faded away and the cloud that shrouded him broke up and let the sunshine in. Today, it was grueling hot in Chestnut Ridge. After the Spring all but refused to shake off the cold of Winter, they went from one extreme to the other. Erik spied the splash pad and decided to cool himself off.
He didnโt even bother to change into proper water attire. He just lept in, expensive Italian sandals and all. Jumping around just like a little kid. In every way, he felt renewed. At peace. Finally, after so long.
Suddenly, Kayleigh joined him. Erik smiled, โCanโt stand the heat either, I see.โ
โNo, Iโm worried about you. You just havenโt been yourself in days and days.โ
โMe? Iโm fine. I think I finally figured a few things out. Sorry it took me so long to see the plain truth of it.โ

Come Sunday, they all went to church together, as a family. Father Jamesโ homily was quite on the mark and Erikโs soul felt fed. While the priest gave away no secrets, Erik did feel as if the cleric was speaking directly to him. He knew, then, without a doubt that finally, he had come through the black hole and reached the other side. He was going to be all right.
Erik got quite another surprise in the late afternoon. Having showered and changed for the Starlight Accolades Show, he found Harmony Von Winden waiting just outside of the locked gate. โHarmony, sweetheart, what a surprise, you look great! To what do I owe this honor?โ
โDaddy, I just wanted to tell you in person, youโre a grandfather. Little Tariq was born. Heโs beautiful and I canโt wait until you can meet him.โ
Erik brought a few guests with him to the Show. Nervous, but not for the normal reasons, he wanted his major support group with him. Aaron, Joey, Adrian, Brianna, Spock, Kayleigh and Mercedes. Erik just hoped he could get through it.
He thought he would have to wait, and was caught off guard when the Host announced, "For bringing such aural beauty to the ears of Sims around the world . . . This Weekโs Best Song goes to . . . Erik Cantrell, for his A Dream Like This. That song title couldnโt be more appropriate. It has been quite the dream. Fifty. Fifty Best Songs in a row. You, sir, have secured your Legacy for the next one hundred years! Congratulations!โ
Erik took the stage and stood there, gathering his thoughts as he let the moment soak in.

โSpeaking of legacies. Some of you are aware that I have been going through something strange, lately. For a time, it was like I wasnโt myself anymore. I felt lost, adrift and out-of-step with myself. With much prayer and a serious set of conversations with loved ones and my Father-Confessor, my parish priest. Who helped me put the pieces of this puzzle together. I now am at peace and know just where Iโm headed again. Glory to God. I really thought I was losing my mind.โ
โI was a Global Superstar at the age of seventeen. I graduated high school early and expected to just keep up the pace of my new career. My father, the late Joseph Alistair Cantrell, had other plans for me. I recall how I bristled at his suggestion I get my degree in Fine Arts from Britechester-U, to have a back-up plan.โ Erik smiled a little. โI thought he was suggesting my career would fizzle out. That made me angry.โ
โBut Dad was the wiser one, of course. I believe now that he understood more about life than I ever would. You see, he meant for a time when I would need to alter the course of my life, just a bit.โ
โYou see, as I was going through this very distressing trial, I did a great deal of soul-searching. I have come to a conclusion about so many things. One, I have been rather selfish with this Gift that God bestowed upon me. All of this time I thought in order to glorify Him for this Gift, I had to keep winning. No. What I need to do is share it with others, to help them achieve success.โ
โIโm not going away. And I wonโt stop writing music, but I can be more discerning as to when and how often I license my work. So, while I wonโt be enjoying a nomination โ and believe me itโs a very good feeling knowing others love my work. I need to stand aside and let the other fine, talented musicians have a chance at this tasty apple.โ
โAs for that distinguished Fine Arts degree I worked my tail-end off for, I have parlayed that into an accreditation certificate and I shall be opening up my own Music Academy where I can help by mentoring others with raw talent into the best musicians they can be.โ

@GalacticGal I have those same lighting issues. I think it's a window issue. I've had lots where I've all but turned off the lights and the problem is still there. Yeah there are boundaries in every relationship. The bathroom door is one of them. Unless it's shower woohoo time.๐ L. can be fun, but she can also be a real jerk too.๐ It's been kind of fun playing outside my comfort zone with Alaina. I know I don't want to play mischievous sims every day, but it has been nice change of pace.
@misty4m I haven't had the experience in which the family members are greyed out. My Sim, Erik Cantrell moved his family to Chestnut Ridge and when the twins graduated from uni (they studied at home) they decided to purchase a Rental Apartment building. They lived on their property in Willow Creek, yet still had their family members in their friends menu. Harmony, I just learned, doesn't get along well with anybody according to the puzzle pieces beside her family members. Who knew? Perhaps, that's why two of her female cousins failed to show up to her wedding, even though they were to be bridesmaids?
I wish I could offer you something other than my own experience in this, but this is all I have.
My sims issues started before the compatibility, I took this screenshot in 2021 and as kids they hated each other and as adults they still do, they are twins' brothers, they have an older brother and their relationship with him is okay but not the best, they don't go off on him like they do with each other.
In the middle of a conversation with their parents one twin insulted the other one, their friendship bar is still good.
As brothers they have a strong compatibility but that don't help, they still insult each other even after I started over with them from scratch as kids, it just doesn't work so I went back to my old folder of them married to their wives and said it just don't work with them and I separated them all and placed them in different folders without each other.
I have two sims in college right now in the sims 3, this is an example of what I mean about the greyed-out part. But in the sims 3 your sim can move to another town but still keep a long-distance relationship with friends and family. Your sims don't see their friends or family in the new town at all unless they invite them over to visit for a few days.
Meaning I would like to have my sim move to a different town and family or friends couldn't just show up unless my sim invite them, my sim is on vacation right now in this screenshot and a random friend show up like she is visiting him because his celebrity star increased.
@BlueSeaWaves Thank you. I had to dig deep into Erik to draw that out of him. The mid-life crisis goals for him to achieve was a bit hard. So against everything I believe. I mostly let time handle it. But I did have something that popped up allowing him to "marry only Kayleigh". I clicked on that one, and presto! He was over it and into the resolution phase. Phew!

Iโve not posted here in a while since I had real life stuff going on that meant I had to not play for a bit. Nothing bad, just academic deadlines and work stuff.
Started again last week though. Started with Kanye Jawara again like in previous incarnations of the game. He went to Britechester to study Communications and did well at that. Made good friends and achieved the academic aspiration pretty easily. He met Angela Pleasant in his first semester and she got pregnant very quickly. Their daughter Florence was a toddler by the time he graduated and at that point he moved in with them and got married to Angela while initially working in the business career.
He later moved to the journalist career when Angela left him for a townie. He and Florence remained in the house and he raised her with some occasional input from Angela. Sheโs just become a teen today and Kanye has just got remarried to Becca Clarke from the best of friends household.
Eliza Pancakes (or Dolittle as I renamed her) divorced Bob very quickly and realised she was gay. She went to University to study fine arts and did very well at this. While at Uni she was involved in the art society and had relationships with a fellow student called Monica then a gym instructor called June. After graduating she worked as a musician for a bit. Then she got into a serious relationship with one of my sims Caroline Jagger and they had a baby girl together Eliza is currently working as a freelance painter while raising their toddler and Caroline is in her final semester of Economics. Eliza is wanting to get married and Caroline (who is family oriented) wants more children so these things will likely be on the cards once Caroline graduates.
Angela Pleasant is currently single and Florence has just moved in with her so they can have some time together. She got a degree in culinary arts after some time off for motherhood and works as a chef.

@GalacticGal I have those same lighting issues. I think it's a window issue. I've had lots where I've all but turned off the lights and the problem is still there. Those rooms usually have large picture windows too. ๐ค At least that's what I'm seeing in my game. Congrats to Harmony and the entire Von Winden and Cantrell families!๐ฅณ

Yeah there are boundaries in every relationship. The bathroom door is one of them. Unless it's shower woohoo time.๐ L. can be fun, but she can also be a real jerk too.๐ It's been kind of fun playing outside my comfort zone with Alaina. I know I don't want to play mischievous sims every day, but it has been nice change of pace.

My sims issues started before the compatibility, I took this screenshot in 2021 and as kids they hated each other and as adults they still do, they are twins' brothers, they have an older brother and their relationship with him is okay but not the best, they don't go off on him like they do with each other.
In the middle of a conversation with their parents one twin insulted the other one, their friendship bar is still good.
As brothers they have a strong compatibility but that don't help, they still insult each other even after I started over with them from scratch as kids, it just doesn't work so I went back to my old folder of them married to their wives and said it just don't work with them and I separated them all and placed them in different folders without each other.
I have two sims in college right now in the sims 3, this is an example of what I mean about the greyed-out part. But in the sims 3 your sim can move to another town but still keep a long-distance relationship with friends and family. Your sims don't see their friends or family in the new town at all unless they invite them over to visit for a few days.
Meaning I would like to have my sim move to a different town and family or friends couldn't just show up unless my sim invite them, my sim is on vacation right now in this screenshot and a random friend show up like she is visiting him because his celebrity star increased.

I have tried everything, nothing works.
Started again last week though. Started with Kanye Jawara again like in previous incarnations of the game. He went to Britechester to study Communications and did well at that. Made good friends and achieved the academic aspiration pretty easily. He met Angela Pleasant in his first semester and she got pregnant very quickly. Their daughter Florence was a toddler by the time he graduated and at that point he moved in with them and got married to Angela while initially working in the business career.
He later moved to the journalist career when Angela left him for a townie. He and Florence remained in the house and he raised her with some occasional input from Angela. Sheโs just become a teen today and Kanye has just got remarried to Becca Clarke from the best of friends household.
Eliza Pancakes (or Dolittle as I renamed her) divorced Bob very quickly and realised she was gay. She went to University to study fine arts and did very well at this. While at Uni she was involved in the art society and had relationships with a fellow student called Monica then a gym instructor called June. After graduating she worked as a musician for a bit. Then she got into a serious relationship with one of my sims Caroline Jagger and they had a baby girl together Eliza is currently working as a freelance painter while raising their toddler and Caroline is in her final semester of Economics. Eliza is wanting to get married and Caroline (who is family oriented) wants more children so these things will likely be on the cards once Caroline graduates.
Angela Pleasant is currently single and Florence has just moved in with her so they can have some time together. She got a degree in culinary arts after some time off for motherhood and works as a chef.
