Although, surely it wouldn't have been too much for a Guru to come in here see that the hype train was running away at full throttle... all they had to do then was say that it wasn't going to be a big announcement, just a hint.
Is the 15 second video all you were talking about in terms of today's announcement and opening the lines of communication?
Where is the rest? I was expecting a big blog post showing some of what is to come (with, of course, lots of details kept as a surprise) as well as some of the thinking behind the decisions that have been made, future plans, and what our feedback means to the development team.
If that is it.... I am so disappointed.
Hello klovesjen,
What was provided is exactly what I said it would be, a look at things to come to The Sims 4 in the next couple months.
This is not meant to replace our usual pack announcements (which provide the title, the release date, and deep dives into some of the content found in the pack). These seasonal teaser videos are meant to show you a look ahead for 2-3 months so that you know what type of pack, what the theme of the pack is, and around when to expect to get deep dives into information.
I never promised a blog nor some intense deep dive. What was given is exactly what I stated.
The reason people are annoyed is that it has been months. We are so behind that the teaser should have happened a while ago and THIS should have been the release date info......People feel like they have waited and waited for literally a stuff pack and a game pack and 15 seconds of really nothing because it didn't show anything that people didn't already guess. In sims 3 we constantly got content, whether from the Sims 3 store or actual releases. The expansion pack release dates for Sims 3 were always 3-6 months apart, we are at almost a year and 8 months of the Sims 4 with just TWO expansions out.......by this time in Sims 3 we had 4 expansions out and countless store items, stuff packs, etc....
The fact is that the Sims 4 is moving extremely slow, that isn't speculation, its just a fact. Look at the time line of ALLLLL the other games. Never have we had such a long dry spell and by this time in the Sims 3 we already had several things released with substance. This game was already lacking to begin with and now we are behind on content to top it off. Having people close to me in game development I am well aware that you guys get a timeline of when things can be worked on, announced, etc....but that has nothing to do with the fact that we just aren't getting content for this game, def not in the scope that we have it past games.
The whole waiting years for a complete game is getting old, we have gone through it 4 times now. It's just deja vu over and over again and thousands of dollars going into EA pockets. This is one of the most expensive game series to play. Most games are sold and DLC is optional, meaning the main is so good that the DLC really isn't necessary. The sims doesn't work that way, especially not The Sims 4 which most felt was incredibly incomplete at launch. GTA V is a great example, is there DLC? Yes, but in 3 years I have NEVER NEEDED to buy DLC for the game to feel complete. It is still fun three years later and was $20 cheaper. I wouldn't mind paying for the content if it was actually GOOD content and released in some sort of schedule where people don't feel 🐸🐸🐸🐸 and frustrated. People are bored, frustrated, and angry and it shows. The forums have NEVER been this negative, ever. I have been around since Sims 1 and have never seen this, not to this extent. There have even been several people who have left the community because it's just not producing anything fun.
Games are meant to be fun, be an escape....not be a source of stress and boredom. That makes no sense. We are ALL fans of the game and of the franchise and when you have this many people voicing disappointment then this company has to realize that something is seriously wrong. Now why you guys aren't rectifying it, well that could be a multitude of reasons that we as consumers don't know. It can be budget, time, etc.....however that isn't our problem as consumers. The game just feels dead and unfortunately the main game is not worth what the initial cost was and people feel angry about it.
Considering I paid $15-$20 less for GTAV and have not bought ANY extra DLC for it and 3 years later I still enjoy playing it, thats how you know something is seriously wrong.........
I asked the community for insight into what they would like to see for pre-announcement info, additionally I've looked through fan sites, reddit, watched live streams, and YouTube videos to get even more insight from the community about this. Based on my research, and comments that were made in response to my inquiry post, it came down to key things that they wanted to know: the type of pack, the theme of the pack, and around the time they can expect news for the pack. This was never meant to be a replacement for announcements. It was meant to provide insight for the community to get a tease at what is to come and to help with a few things:
Any information shared on fan sites or outside sites that was not something shared in these videos would be shown to be false information without myself or other SimGurus needing to tell you.
It helps those who want to plan on budgeting for content in advance.
It is meant as way for hype and speculation to be around confirmed content rather than anything that is ever posted on the internet ever.
We know this type of teaser will not please everyone. Just like we know not everything we release will please everyone. But it will please those who do care for this type of sneak peak into what is coming.
Also to your point about GTAV: That game is not a life simulation game nor is it a live service game. GTA is always meant to be a standalone with content being completely optional and it has a clear ending (I used to play that franchise a lot when I was in my teens.) The Sims is not meant to have an end.
