Little things that'd make the game better for you

edited March 2016 in The Sims 4 Game Feedback
I mentioned in an old thread in the Bugs & Issues section I think the Sims team should adjust the character limit for names for 14 to 20, or at least, to 16 to kill the issue with Olivia's surname. @rosemow suggested I put that feedback in...Feedback. I didn't think of it as feedback when I typed it, but I took her advice.

So, I was wondering if anyone else has small ideas that would make the game a little better for them. I have a few.
  • Increasing the name character limit from 16 to 20
  • Adding in more family relationships to start from in CAS (cousin, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, etc)
  • Making extended relationships recognizable
  • This has to do with modding, but letting modders create their own CAS sections. So, my sim can wear painted nails and a bracelet. Or glass wings and eyeglasses.
  • An option to make sims stay still in CAS. There was a mod for this, but it no longer works, it seems.

    I'd like all of those.

And I'd like to add an increased character limit for song titles as well! It's ok for books, but I can hardly ever name a song how I want it because I'm out of characters.
I'm currently using a mod for this, but I'd rather not.

Some little things I'd like (alongside @KayeStar 's!):

    - All the watches, rings, and bracelets being available for either wrist
    - Single earrings for men
    - Taking glasses off in bed (this came up in another topic today)
    - Automatically taking from fresh food, not the fridge, if there's fresh-made food on a counter
    - Children being able to pick fruit to eat (little Elsa would have lasted much longer today on her grand egg-hunting expedition if she could have eaten berries in the woods)
    - "Meet friends" at school making kids meet only same-age Sims

I'd just like to add: Just one decent-looking base game male hairstyle for Teen through Elder with over-the-forehead bangs. Two of the almost-there ones have the hair piled too high on the top of the head and the third is just weirdly helmet-like. It's the main reason why I started using CC again. Ya'll know ya'll wrong, Maxis. Ya'll know ya'll wrong. :|

I am probably not good at guessing what would be a little thing to do or a really big job, but here goes:

    * Making it so that when you return home from a night out, the sims left at home are in bed asleep if it is between 11pm and 6 am
    * Have teens put their homework automatically back into their inventory instead of leaving it all over the place
    * Have an option on the fridge to 'eat leftovers' with a pop-up choice, no having to open the fridge and choose the dish
    * Add an option for the sim limit to be raised to prevent culling
    * Add an option for variable days for the length of each life stage (to pick your own length for each age)

Definitely agree with all these. I'm always so mad the bug with Olivia's name is there nearly 2 years later, cause when she becomes a teen I can't change her clothes unless I also shorten her name...which ruins the whole story of the household :/

Also more CAS relationships and family options. Like sometimes I want a young couple to start out with a baby, but since can't make them in CAS I have to settle for a kid. And being able to set CAS couple as just boyfriend/girlfriend.

Babies being untied from the bassinet. I just hate that we have to keep putting them down in between each action, and that you can't breastfeed while sitting down. Like idk, it bothers me that the bassinet counts as the baby, not the baby model itself.

Just thought of another one: The ability to paint the ceilings. I really miss that from TS2. I mean, I can have this really awesome room that's all stone walls and floors, or wood paneling and hardwood floors...and then the ceiling is the same old bland white paint/plaster...thing. Sure, you don't really notice it unless you put the walls up and go into the TAB camera mode, but when you're taking pictures indoors and you go back a certain distance or use certain camera angles...you notice.

You said 'little' and everything I want changed are probably too big to be listed here. So, one thing would be the ability to paint under the over hangs of the houses. If you look up you see that dull white (not even bright) of the underneath of the overhangs. I thought once they said (before release) we would finally be able to paint that. I guess I dreamed it along with the all life stages would be in the game.

I agree with other people about the names. I would like for the character limit to be increased for that. And I would definitely like for the character limit to be increased for songs!

Some of these might be considered medium, but here goes:

Being able to do homework (for the at home sim) when playing a different family member who is away from home
Elder sims having the word "retirement" instead of unemployment
    We need a cemetery
It would be nice if Elder had choices for a little job (like the teens do)
    Attraction Chemistry Lightening bolts
    Scaning room function
    School Uniforms
Trying to get into private school by inviting headmaster over
A memory system like Sims 2

There are sooo many things I would like and many of them are listed here. But I think having a doorbell would help my game play! I always miss sims coming over.

A bit more diversity for what's on TV. There are only two shows on any given channel, whereas previous games had 3 or 4. (Or am I wrong about this?)

These are the small enhancements that I believe would make the game a bit more tolerable:
    • Debug option to rotate and delete neighborhood objects (even if world editing isn't possible).
    • Move families into special lots such as the hermit's (just enable the "move in from gallery" option!
    • RGB options for lighting and eye colors.
    • Ownership of homework.
    • Ability to invite household members and clubs to career lots.
    • Ability to use all career objects at any location without a 'work event'.
    • Option to stop spawning of townies.
    • Option to edit service sims without triggering re-spawn.
    • Option to set persistent career outfits.
    • An 'All in Current Zone' filter for travel partner selections.
    • An option to disband groups.
    • Restoration of the exhaust vapor effect for The Apollo Rocket!
    • Console options to set common values such as lot type and household properties which are related to ownership of neighborhood objects, including retail lots.
    • Console option to delete array items such as unwanted skill entries, invalid relationship bits, orphaned retail data, buffs for unwanted autonomous behavior, etc.
    • A 'clean save data' option which purges oprhaned nodes and erroneous values which may have been set by mods.
    • One-on-one dancing which doesn't look like an assault and does not require a dance floor object.
    • Translation of the romantic dancing and gestures from the second and third versions.
    • Banning of the word 'Toddlers' from the forums.
    • Functional documentation and more access to 'Super' functions (I'm tired of having to analyze the entire script collection to locate the context of any given data array).

This has nothing to do with the game.

I've just thought of some ideas to make the sims (hopefully) better. First there should be a supermodel, a politician, a teacher, a teachers pet (for kids and teens) and a nurse/doctor aspiration. There should be new jobs Supermodel, teacher and politician and there should be new age groups like toddlers that go to playgroup (or preschool depending where you come from) tweens that go to junior high. Also adults should be able to have a mid-life crisis. Please add suggestions.

Move gravestone pop-up option like the name your child popup so you don't miss it.. with a non-culling feature. I'd like to be able to store the non-playable ghosts I want to keep either on their home lot or send them to a cemetery lot(s). Personally I don't care if that takes lot limit slot.

Portable Easels (or sketch pads) and keyboards.

I'm happy we have that one light fixture that is almost flush to the ceiling. I'd like another style or two of that. It's about the only one I use now.

Paint with the corner trims whether wood or stone doesn't work on corners inside. Please fix this.

    Some more things to add:

    CAS Mode

    - More makeup options. Have teens be able to have their orange skin period and the option for kids to mess around with the makeup. Also for men to wear makeup just like the women because who doesn't want to see their Sim slayin with a cat eye? Add in things like ridiculous/subtle contour, more customisable eyeshadow options, brow options (lol)
    - Make the hair and clothes more customisable, I really liked that in the Sims. The annoying sliders are gone but now there are only like 14 options for the hair and things and that gets really irritating
    - Decent noses for the girls. Seriously, half the noses look ridiculous.
    - More traits. I don't know why but I find three traits really constricting. There was more room for character in the Sims 3 which I really enjoyed.
    - Maybe have different accents? Different dialects of Simlish? That would be pretty funny to watch
    - I'm not sure if this is available but have the ability for young adults to be related to teens, children, babies etc.

    Build/Buy Mode

    - Good carpet. There are only two carpets and each colour is just...
    - More choice of roofs
    - Just more customisation for Build/Buy mode as well

    Traits/Emotions

    - Add in waayyyyyyy more traits. I suppose this comes as the expansions come in but the selection in my opinion is pretty meagre.
    - Have teens randomly become 'angsty'
    - Have the sims react differently to their colours, otherwise I feel as though adding in your favourite colour is a little unnecessary. Maybe have like a +5 moodlet if they're wearing their favourite colour
    - Have kids get a -5 moodlet for doing chores (or +5 if they're Good)

    Skills/Careers

    - The ability to grow flowers in Gardening, I reckon that would be pretty cool
    - Add in the Career Makeup Artist and the skill of makeup
    - Add in wayyyy more instruments. In TS3 it was expanded a little in the Late Night expansion but I feel like just basic classical instruments like the cello, or the flute or the trumpet could also be added in. It would also be fun for the kids to go to after school orchestra
    - More depth in the sports department. Either make up the Sim's own unique sports or additionally add conventional ones such as basketball or baseball and have injuries related to those sports
    - Thinking about that, what if they released something to do with the Olympics? Would be a bit of a sell out point but it would be pretty awesome...
    - Have lawyers as a career and decide whether fellow criminals should go to jail or not
    - Maybe have the option of cutting your own hair?
    - Add the social media skill back in

    Gameplay

    - Expand a little in school. I know some people prefer the rabbit hole but maybe there could be a new school which is available only if your child gets an A grade in school that can specialise in subjects, and then have active gameplay for that, kind of like the University expansion. For instance, you could have children perform experiments in Science class and totally 🐸🐸🐸🐸 up or have them doodle in their notebooks/chuck paper balls
    - Alternately you could have completely specialist schools, like a purely Arts school or purely Science school and so on. Also, make scholarships a thing
    - Toddlers. That's all I'm gonna say.
    - I feel like every building should be able to have active gameplay. Like what if you were in the supermarket and your 3 year old started having an absolute fit? I guess it would eat up battery, effort and it's a little unnecessary but it would be really fun.
    - Fix the time in gameplay. I understand it has to go a little faster than usual but it takes like an hour for my Sim to walk to the kitchen when its like 1 Sim metre away. It's bloody frustrating and just takes time out
    - I don't think it would ever be added but it would be awesome if a hidden sex drive bar was there for the more flirtier Sims
    - I really hope they're developing at least Generations, University and Pets, those ones were the bomb
    - Have the ability to change maternity clothes in CAS or something
    - Add back the ability to change a Sim's lifespan with the sliders
    - Have the ability to also buy clothes. That would be hella fun. Also makeup, accessories, fishing equipment... pretty much everything to upgrade a skill. For instance, have 🐸🐸🐸🐸 violins but then also have really extravagant ones.

An initial 4 hr mourning/sad moodlet of at least +10 sad so that mourning sims will never again stand smiling and happy over their dead spouses/parents body.

I would like to be able to choose the working hours for the active careers. I've started the scientist career three times now because my sim also owns and operates three retail shops and sometimes I want her to work at the shop during the day and be able to start her job as a scientist later in the day or the evening.

A 'work from home' option for all non-active careers. Sometimes I just want to do my own thing. I'm currently playing with sims who are artists and run a gallery. I want them to be employed in the artist career but I don't want them vanishing off to work because then I can't open the shop during the day. It makes sense to me that they would work in the gallery. So, if I had a 'work from home' option that basically gives a sim a day off without a consequence, it would be perfect! They could still have to do the daily task, and the progress would go off it's completion and also the sim's mood. I wouldn't like to be glued to the home lot though, because in this case I'd like to operate from a retail venue.

This would also be useful for parents with young children who want to work from home, I know real-life parents who have admin and IT jobs who work from home most days. And it would just give more flexibility to players. Maybe if I had a household with 4 adult sims, I might have one sim 'work from home' each day and send the others off to work, to get a bit of one-on-one skill building time with that sim.

(And yes, I am using Zerbu's Careers mod, and I love it, but it doesn't quite cover every scenario).

Ghosts: I would like a cemetary, where unplayed ghosts are tied to the lot. That way there won't be ghosts floating about in the neighborhoods unless I want them too.

Aliens: I would like aliens to be undercover when they are out and about. I LOVE aliens, but would rather play them in one world, and have them undercover in the other worlds! Also, I would like an easy way to stop abductions.

This would be a biggie but when in 'buy mode' I would like the ability to stretch or move the wrong thing (building parts) turned off. It is impossible I guess since they are combined now (build and buy) but it is annoying as I don't know what to be placing something or just move the mouse around and get a hold of a wall or a porch or a fence and accidentally move those while you are in buy mode. It is enough to bother many of us which might do this by accident often.
