This article is pretty accurate in it's charges and well written, it causes even a supporter like myself to take pause upon reflection of where this game has been in the first year. Cheers to the writer! Of course, I can't help but wonder if Metro is scrambling to rebuild it's reputation after the riotously ridiculous "paid placement advertising article" it also released just last month with Rachael praising Sims 4 and it's "direction" which the writer in that case so "got". Anyway, all this is old news and there's few of us here or elsewhere that don't have complaints about the game at launch and since. At this point Maxis either "gets it" and is working on it or they don't "get it" and are making enough money by not working on it to not care.
Thank you @JasonAnthonySterling Yes but I think with all that's been said that it was important to say that the customers who buy the sims do know their own minds and aren't unreasonable. Every time I read something otherwise from someone at EA it does irritate me because most simmers I've met wherever they stand on TS4 are generally creative, intelligent and interesting people with a lot to offer. It's EA's loss that they don't use that to their advantage.
Very well written and most of the points were accurate.

After reading it, I was surprised that there had been so much research put into it. I keep seeing interviews and articles alike where the writer has no idea what they are talking about, but this was really insightful.
And now I find out it's sparkfairy's article. Congrats! It's really insightful and concise - not something I was expecting to see.
@sparkfairy1 very well written! Also... I never saw that pre-release video.. I like the look of the neighborhood view so much more than this mediocre thing we have now!
Excellent work, @sparkfairy1. While I fear this may take the same "pay-no-mind" turn on the EA Mobile's attention span, I hope it receives appropriate attention in the end.
Now, excuse me, as I wait for the usual "the author has no idea what they're talking about" comments to pop up.
Woa, that was an excellent article. It doesn't cover all the problems this game has because there are hundreds of them. But it gives us a general idea about the state of the game and the attitude of the people who work on it. And it makes me feel kinda guilty because I LOVE battlefield 4, it's such an awesome and manly game but I guess some of the sims's money went into developing that game.
The battlefield graphics are those of an AAA title and when I look at the sims 4 it makes me laugh. Those male devs at the sims studio must hand their man cards ASAP lol because the sims 4 is getting more childish and girly as the time goes by (look at the dancing chicks of get together.) I don't want a manly sims 4 with guns and violence, I just want a game that's meant to be played by adults. Anyway, I hope simmers keep spending their money on the sims 4, we need more battlefields, witcher and crysis games.

I don't they'll pop up. Everyone has been congratulatory and respectful. Congrats @sparkfairy1 on a well-written and insightful article.
I won't begrudge the author most of their points, but point 8 is only partially correct. Tuning mods have always had to be updated with each patch that made changes to the files they alter. This has always been a thing and is not new with the Sims 4. In terms of being "modder friendly" I would say Maxis have in fact succeeded, and exceeded my own expectations thanks to simgurumodsquad. If modders are leaving the community, they are leaving because of any of the authors previous points, but not because the game is modder unfriendly.

Actually modders like DrChillGood have. Many mods broke with the March patch and quite a number of modders quit then.

Thank you for writing the article, Spark Fairy. Makes me wonder if any Maxis or EA employees will bother reading and commenting on it, or hopefully revive Ask A Guru.
@sparkfairy1 Great job with your article. I would say I hope EA reads it but I know they won't. :-P However, it's really cool to see our voices in the same platform that Rachel posted her "thoughts" earlier on.

I can't speak for DrChillGood, but by his own admission on his modthesims member page, he is "Retired from modding until EA puts some effort into TS4" which suggests his problems lie with the gameplay, not that modding is unfriendly. I am not debating the gameplay, which many people obviously find lacking in certain areas.
I don't mean to sound rude. I kind of do that naturally. But that article doesn't cover anything about us builders that were left out. All it really said to me was that generational players were the only ones left out. I know that wasn't the intention. But it seemed to me that it was the only area of focus.
Dissatisfied with Sims 4 and hoping for a better Sims 5

8. ‘Modder friendly’
Player made mods have to be updated with each game patch. There have been sometimes twice monthly patches. For any player that uses those mods, they have to wait for the mod update or they risk corrupting their save file. This has put a lot of pressure on modders and some have given up and left the community.
I think the article is just stating a fact that the mods have to be updated with each patch, and implying that with sometimes twice monthly patches it's hard to keep up. This is the way I interpret number 8.

I definitely agree with you. But law of averages and simple difference of opinion always ends up drawing out the side that just won't open up to something eye opening.

I've actually talked to him about it. But feel free to clear it with @S100Headache yourself too if you want. It's pretty cool Honeywell is making TS2 mods again recently. A lot of the modders at MTS are super nice and smart. I always love talking to Simmers there. I don't want to track away from the OP's thread anyway since she has talked to him as well.

Yeah a ton of things got left out for builders. I always cringe when people say the Sims 4 strength is building or CAS. I so miss being able to edit my towns and lot sizes and terrain. I feel so boxed in with TS4. TS3 was definitely the builders' dream game. So much countless customization and creativity.

Thank you @sparkfairy1 for taking the time and making the effort to write this article. Someone mentioned before that it is really good to see the players perspective on the same platform that RF used earlier... and how true that is. It makes for quite sad reading doesn't it.
