Valuable chef's garden with perfect plants.
Working fishing pond (includes rare fish).
No, the stove isn't on fire. My sim's cooking ''Blackened Bass". She did this autonomously, so she's apparently showing off and happy to have a fishing pond.
The loft opening above the stairs opens to the master bedroom, and a small bedroom that can be used as an office, master bath, or opened up to enlarge the master bedroom. There is a skylight over the loft opening. On the other side there is a punching bag and a glass door opening to a 2nd-floor deck with seating and an easel.

I'm having fun trying to work with just BG and under 18k and I think this is the first modern build I've ever actually completed. It's a two bed home and includes TV, PC, stereo, bookcase, easel, punchbag (thank you @SheriGR for the idea of putting it on the upstairs landing!) & small spliced plant deck to help with cooking & rent. Plenty of room left clear to grow a sim family.
Credit & many thanks for spliced plants to @SheriGR & @mcrudd and to @AlJay & @SimSationalToo for NoCC art

I have a few starter homes on the gallery. I decided to challenge myself and started building homes under $20k, using 1 pack + base game, or just base game. I call it #starterseries. So far I've done homes for City Living, Get Together, Cats & Dogs, Island Living, and 2 base game homes. It's a lot harder than I thought, but it's fun to use items I don't normally use. I can't post pictures yet, but if you want to check them out, my username on the gallery is Doozygirl, or you can use #doozygirl or #starterseries to find them.
@hellokitty1496 that's a great start! But I think it needs to be furnished too to be classed as a proper starter home, so that it is move-in ready for under 20K.
When I am stuck, I always find a picture to copy and that makes it easier to build. You could start with something really small and simple like this:
and then move on up from there. You can fit a surprising amount of furniture into something small.

That's a coincidence, I was actually thinking of doing some tiny homes with base game + one for each pack. I will check yours out next time I am in the game.

I actually have picked this house from a realtor site, but could only see the front and a small side of the house:
I was only focused on the house, so I didn't try to imitate the background. Plus, it's not like I really had room for it or anything. I'll try to be minimal as possible, as far as furnishing goes.

Even though I think it looks fine, I'm somewhat concerned that it's not appealing enough to the viewer. Any suggestions?
