I seriously hate how the needs look. I really hope they make them bars again. The UI makes it look like a fb/mobile game..
I find colors much more streamlined and it signals the game will be less about peeing and more about doing exiting things.
I love, love, love TS2. But the needs there were too overwhelming, demanding, and took away from the gaming experience.
But keeping up with the needs is the gaming experience. Making sure the sims are happy is what the sims is about
That is true, they are -needs- that you -need- to fullfill then because the sim -need- those things since they are people simulations and people -need- to fullfill their physical and phsycologic -needs- that is why they are called -needs-.
I am very disappointed the comfort need didn't make a return. Why so many don't find that need a real need is beyond me. If you ache all over, tired, don't you 'need' to relax on something soft and comfy.
I really did hate the comfy moodlet because any ole object gave out the comfort moodlet. I would think relaxing on a bunk bed which most have that board in the center under the mattress, which you can feel through a cheap bunk bed mattress, isn't as pleasant as resting on a better mattress. Or sitting in a straight back chair isn't as comfy as sitting in a recliner or a better couch.
I would guess environment needs are there due to the emotional state of the Sim and just hidden this time, somehow it seems like it will be important this time but maybe only as good buffs.

In Sims 2 the comfort bar would always be full as a result of filling your Sims other needs, so it was kind of a pointless need.

I think you are right in the fact that comfort is important to people and it was given out too willy nilly. What they need to do this time is have negative comfort scores, so cheap furniture will actually affect your sim badly.

Because, like I've said before, the comfort need doesn't make sense as a decreasing need bar. Comfort isn't linear like that; yes, humans have a need for comfort, but it's not something that decreases or increases over time.
The 6 we have make sense; you eat, and you're not hungry. But over time you will get hungry again. You sleep, and you're no longer tired, but over time you will start to get tired again. Even socialising works like that, though you may not noticee it; the vast majority of us will feel an increasing need to socialise with someone when we haven't socialised in a while.
Comfort, on the other hand, doesn't work like that. You probably often have thoughts like "I need to eat", or "I need to sleep", but you never think "I need comfort". Comfort isn't something that decreases over time the way the rest of the needs do. You don't get comfortable while sitting then stand up and gradually become less comfortable. In fact most people will even start to get uncomfortable if they sit for too long.
It's also much more dynamic; when it comes to sleeping, for example, no matter where you sleep, not counting how long you sleep for, you will wake up and not feel less tired. But you don't automatically feel "comfortable" because you've sat down; it depends on what you've been sitting on, how you've been sitting, how long you've been sitting for.
That's all why comfort makes much more sense as a mood buff than a need. But I do agree with you that it didn't work right in TS3 either. It needs to be more dynamic, like I explained above. Different chairs need to have different mood buffs. Some could even decrease mood. And things like sitting too long, and even the way a Sim sits should decrease their mood too.
