I have a question for those who play the game (I only play rarely. I prefer to build) -- I was thinking of putting the fairy arboretum in a hidden lot some secluded place in the mountains. The primary way to access it would be through a well. I am worried about routing and randomly-spawning of Sims getting stuck there. I am going to go read through some of the tomb tutorials since the object came with WA. I guess I could put one of those TARDIS/Phone Booth looking things up there, as well but that kinda defeats the purpose.

    Thoughts, ideas?

I love this idea, the well works much better and stays with the magic of the fairy arboretum theme better that a phone booth.

Well only the sims you are playing will be able to go there as the rest will not use any of that - not the dive wells, not the Llama's, not the subways or hotair balloon, none of it. Fairies either fly or take a taxi everywhere - they mostly fly though - but any way, if they get the call to go to the Arboreum and can't get there they might act like stuck sims and complain about not being able to get there. I always place mine in the center of a lovely park or a flower garden in the woods along with some of the fairy castles and jellybean bushes. I'd make a path through the woods to that.

ETA - Also the school uses that as one of their field trips, so that may be a big problem. In fact the school uses that and the Vault of Antiquity as well for field trips quite a bit.

Happy Monday All --- okay, so its also a dreary Monday and I am at work -- so maybe not so happy.

I did a lot of work this weekend but I apparently forgot to upload the pictures to my flickr account, which means I can't show it to you. So here is a hint of what I will show you when I get the shots uploaded ...

    La Push

All roads placed - there are more roads and terrain features, including a ravine that is meant to be the division of territory. I have the lot for First Beach in and I built a camouflage lot for the Vault of Antiquity. I can't quite decide where I want to place it yet, though. I was thinking about making a place close to first beach or creating Cultural Heritage Museum and placing it there. So many possibilities. I have picked the location of the werewolf "bar."

    Port Angeles

I redesigned Port Angeles from what I had in previous pictures. Its much larger than what it was in the previous version. I have built the shell for the Salon on a lot shared with the Spa. I also have the shell built for the Tattoo parlor. I have also mapped out a bunch of shells to be lot holders (instead of empty lots) so there is room for future expansions (not that there will be that many of them.)

    Forks

There be trees in Forks, now. I finally started adding in the foliage in that part of town -- mainly around the national park.

SimLucy -- I put in your stream between the Cullen House and the Honeymoon cottage. I also started building the cottage itself -- based mainly on the movie since the only way to get it to really match the book was with a lot of custom content.

okay -- I think that is it for now. My lunch hour is up, anyway.

I have the honeymoon cottage that was made for me as people know I love all things Twilight or fantasy - but it looks just like the movie and has no CC - but does have store stuff. Also you may have trouble trying to export the world now a days if there is CC in it - just be forewarned as the only way to export lately is by removing the mod folder, the dcbackup folder and the dccache folder - which removes all that extra content. So what some are doing is just leaving an empty lot where a build can go and uploading the house separately and letting people choose if they want to separately download and install any lot that has CC in it. Because CC plays so badly in a game now a days - worse than ever actually - I advise people to not add CC to their world and any lots with CC in it to upload separately with a link to to all the CC contained lots. That way if the game goes sour in a few day, simmers can just remove the lots with CC in them and that generally fixes things. We cannot remove any lot from a world that has CC in it as it will keep coming back seeing we only play the game at save level and not CAW level.

I could have sworn I uploaded a bunch of pictures last night after spending time tweaking PLF and working on the honeymoon cabin but when I logged in this AM to grab them and post, I only found two new pics uploaded. GRR. So this is only half a report

    Port Angeles

    9011695667_d8cb14f035.jpg
    Screenshot-295 by GLaChaille, on Flickr

From the overhead shoot -- you can see the new layout of Port Angeles

So, now a tour of the port area of Port La Forks. From the top Left -

    1. Backlot
    2. Exclusive Club

The exclusive club is likely going to be moved -- set back a bit from the road and put on a bigger lot. The orientation will change so the front faces the road and the back looks out over the water. I want to give it a more secluded feel.

#3 -- The "hook" of land -- there will be a light house -- probably the one from Sunset Valley with the the lighthouse effect added and a lot -- not sure what that lot will be -- current options: Museum, Restaurant, placeholder for Island Paradise for boating? I am going to wait and see.

And moving clockwise still, you come to ...

#4 "Varg's Tavern" -- Which is no longer Varg's Tavern. But I love the building and it fits with my warehouse / wharf-ey area, so its there for now until I figure out what to do with it.

I will be placing the docks (from Bridgeport?) in the hollow between Vargs and the warehouses on the road.

#5 -- Twilight Dance Club -- just below Varg's. Completely renovated. I am thinking of moving it closer to town and moving #6 to this spot.

#6 - along the water, that first warehouse is the Criminal hideout / Shipping company. Its currently a place holder lot.

#7 - the building with the tan roof -- Vampire Club in what used to be an old hotel -- the Hotel DuMort (any guess to the inspiration for the name?) I am still toying with the idea of moving it to Forks -- but I don't think the old hotel theme would work in Forks.

#8 & # 9 - the building across from the Hotel duMort and next to the criminal warehouse is a dive bar and next to that is the tattoo parlor.

#10 - the small white lot is the current location of La Bella Italia -- but it will likely get moved. I am trying to position both it and the bookstore so that you have to pass the "rough" area to get from one to the other and I don't quite like how they are positioned right now.

#11 -- moving north on the road, you come to the Dress Shop (Salon) and the spa.

#12 - this is a placeholder lot with the Bookstore. Not sure what kind of shop I am going to pair it with. I may just make a facade and fake a door and leave it for future development.

SimLucy -- you can see the stream in this shot between the Cullen House and the Honeymoon Cottage. I need to do some terrain editing though to make it more stream-ish and less gully-ish.

Oh -- and hear is a shot of the cabin facade --

    Screenshot-300 by GLaChaille, on Flickr

it looks rather unspectacular at the moment without any landscaping, etc. I am going to try some experimental hieght-map/painting-manipulation to make the ground more textured so that paint can make the ferns coverage with only a few plants -- otherwise that one lot might will be impossible for a sim to manage and still look like the movie set.

BTW -- seriously cursing EA for the lack of ground cover plants. I might have to get Island Paradise just for the ferns if it has them. GRRRR.

Hmmm.. did seasons come with any more ferns type plants?

Actually there are boston ferns in the game and the jungle fern we have I believe came in Sunlight Tides - at least I think they did. Most of the plants and ground cover I have is from the store worlds - but those jungle ferns are huge. They also have another tropical big leafed plant - but I for got what it's called. I am fairly certain though tropical ferns wouldn't live very well in Washington - hehehe - What you need is the same thing we have here in New Hampshire is the Fiddlehead ferns. My whole side yard is covered in the things because we have had so much rain and I am surrounded by 100 foot tall trees - mostly pines.

I wish EA would sell plants for other worlds in the store. I don't want to require the purchase of a world just to use my world. Hell, I am trying to keep the store content to minimal, as it is.

So it looks like if my experiment doesn't work, I will have to use the terrain paint and crafty height mapping -- or I will have to rebuild the house on a VERY small lot and sink a bunch of palms into the earth to mimic the yard -- use a sidewalk up to the front door. Although, come to think of it, I may have to redo the lot anyway if I change the terrain, hmmm..

But if EA sold the plants it would still be store content - so it is no different and that would still require people to own that download as well. I'd guess a lot of people have Sunlight Tides though, as just everyone I know of has it seeing it is one of EA's best and most unique worlds with all it's island style community lots and rabbitholes. I know builders who bought it solely for the rabbitholes, the ini files and the water files.

But it would be nice if one day EA made a set of outdoor plants for either a store set or even a stuff pack.

Writin_Reg: Yeah -- if plants were bought from the store, they would still be extra content -- but they would be store content (which I don't class as custom content since its made by the officials). The big difference is the price -- even 500 store credits is much cheaper than the 2450 credits and most definitely cheaper than the 4350 for the "Gold Version" you need to buy to get the giant fern. I would really love to have it -- there are some things that would be perfect for PLF (like the bed in Sunlit Tides) -- but I would rather buy an expansion pack.

Ignore my last post about Port Angeles Area. I redid it again last night. I think I am happy with it now -- we will see how long that lasts. Please forgive the CAW shot instead of an EIG one - but I forgot to go back in and get an new one after I made some changes and updated the terrain paint.

Its a decoration building of an abandoned Saw Mill -- I dropped it there so I would forget it was available. It won't live there for long.

I am glad you like the new version of PA -- I am having fun with it. I have been browsing images of water fronts walks on and off all day. Looking for inspiration... I am also curious as to what will come with the new expansion -- the sailing, etc. That may be a nice addition of the Port Angeles area, but I need much more info before I decide.

Over at SimsVIP they tend to put up pictures of all the new content as it gets reported - but what I have seen in the chats so far is jetskis, motor boats, sailboats, paddle boats, houseboats, service, taxi, and car pool boats, and rowboats. You can also build community lots on boats like Casinos, resorts, and other such things as well. Lots can be extended over water with pile - ons and docks for building both community and residential buildings including rabbit holes. But yes - lots of boats of just about any you can imagine. There is also a new career - lifeguard. New activity snorkeling, treasure hunting in water, and skin diving. - that's all I can think of so far. There is another chat on the 18th with info about the mermaids and stuff they haven't mentioned yet.

You won't need to worry about skin diving though as they have already said the skin diving lots can only be in the EP world. They are apparently too deep for any previously made world or for CAW ability. Also there cannot be any secret island for any world but the EP world. The mysterious appearing islands are apparently too difficult for CAW to handle - or so says the Guru's.

But as far as I know everything else can go in the other worlds.

ETA - I have all the store - so I don't have any interest in CC and was not suggesting CC. Besides CAW does not like to save if there is CC in a world now - so that is a nil subject. I was simply saying they will not make something for the store once it is already in a world or in an ep unless it is a new style. The store team said they are not allowed to make things for the eps, and can't duplicate the store world content for sets either. That is all I was saying.

Writin_Reg -- thanks for that info. I may have to go over to that site and check it out. Sounds like there may be a lot of stuff that could be added that I need to plan for and leave room for. :) :-) :D

Alas, I don't have any pictures today and will be leaving on a business trip tomorrow AM and not back to Monday evening -- so I am not sure I will get to post another update until late Tuesday. I got a surprise present when I got home and just had to go explore it -- I did get some work done on PLF, but not much.

Dear Writin_Reg -- just when I thought there was finally a expansion I didn't want and you sent me looking at info and pictures... there are more giant ferns and jet skis and slides for pools and house boats --- now I want it ... :D

But how much do you want to bet that the pool bars will conflict with the late night poolside lounge bars? My poor brain is already thinking up piers and stuff. Hmmm... I might hold off on building that water front --

    Sorry, rambling today.

Well - at least the late night bars "ARE" being tested with the new pool bars - unlike some previous expandsions so there probably will not be any conflict - as this ep also addresses the "bartender" as it allows us to actually take over that position if we want or to hire someone to do that job or to simply allow the game to keep the "land" based bartender in the late night bar and just assign the pool bar to either a member of our household, our sim or a hired bartender. So the programming will be in there to not create conflict - which is more than I can say for a lot of other eps. They have had the team as well as inviting simmers that are builders to previews of the game where they have been designing their own resorts during the events held both at ea and at EA's around the world. I have read at least 10 different European reviews of the new ep and a good 4-5 US reviews and it does seem that both features work together as well as separately without a hitch - So that at least should not be a problem.

This ep everybody is excited about. The chats I have gone to so far have numbers in the 6000 plus viewing just here in the US where other ep chats are lucky to have 2000 live viewing and that is not even counting the numbers that can't view live because they are at work and who view the recorded chat. So I am pretty sure the majority of people are getting this ep and anything to do with the water and ability to live or utilize the water craft is going to be a big draw after the excitement of the new world in the game dies down. Plus this ep has a big bonus - it allows us to move our families from world to world from within the game and the families will keep their relationships, skills, and lots more stuff they lose if we just move them the old way through the library. So for just that feature alone it is worth getting. As we have never been able to move sims to different worlds and keep their family tree together - so there is a lot positive with this ep that people thinking of not getting it, may rethink that big time.

Okay took enough of your time with my rambling - but I agree anyone not thinking of getting this ep will be losing a lot more than the first time ever running water craft.

Enjoy your trip - even if a business trip and stay safe. See you next week. I have to go test a world - so this actually works out - for me anyway and I won't miss out on any of your lovely work and shall be able to give Elmawa's little world my full attention. heehe

    Later.

Ack! ... I can't believe its been two weeks since I last logged in here. Work has been kicking me in the a-double-scribble and I haven't had much time during the week. I have been working on Port La Forks, though. I spent one weekend working on Hotel Du Mort (vampire club) - its almost finished. I also tweaked Port Angeles, a bit. #1 - I want to set up some docks for adding houseboat ports and thanks to a good tutorial by one of the SimGuru's, I have some solid info to do this. I have three ports in the Port Angeles area planned. I also relocated the book store - again. Hopefully it will stay put this time.

I feel like I am obsessing over PA quite a bit and neglecting other areas, so I forced myself to spend last weekend in areas other than PA. I got two houses built and 1 half built. I decided to add a dock to one of the houses, so I may need to tweak the terrain map around there a bit to make it better for having a boat or just fishing.

And lest you think I have forgotten La Push -- I have a few ideas peculating in my head that still trying to work out and coordinate.

I say take all the time you need and make it the way you visualize it so it is more a labor of love instead of something you have to do. Don't let anyone pressure you as it should be enjoyable and something that you can visualize yourself enjoying to play in.

I figure it will be done when it is done.

I own the complete Twilight set so I tend to "visit" Forks quite often - seeing I really love the movies - but as often as I visit I can tell you everytime I go there I see the surroundings a little different. Of course they have a tendency not to really focus on the area as a whole - as from what I have learned by having all 5 disks with all the "extras" is the movies is filmed in a lot of places made up to appear to us to be Forks, WA - even though there is a real Forks, WA some of the most pertinent scenes in the movie is not necessarily the real Forks or exactly as the real place is - so using their great skills with editing and photography, they mesh together their view of this place as much as the Author also meshed together their view of this area her characters live in. As one who has written books and described what is generally fictionalized town that only in my mind I construct them around familiear and real places so readers have a reason to associate - I can understand the process and I can see what an author sees. Turning it into a movie I can see the challenge when a story is only loosely based on a real place. All that said - I think you as the creator of this place are doing a fine job of making the vision have a reality - and it should be how you picture it all first and foremost. Most of all, enjoy working on your vision, don't pressure yourself. When it is done - it is done.

All that said - I like the sounds of what you are doing very much. The ports I think will be really fitting.

Morning All -- nope still haven't fallen off the end of the world -- I've been mucking around in PLF -- I moved things around in the port area again. It suddenly occurred to me having a vampire bar on the main drag was just wrong -- so I moved it. I also got the waterfront and criminal hideout set up.

I also started working on the neglected areas of Forks -- the agricultural area, mainly. I have a nectary in place -- its a three lot grouping with a residential lot, a nectary lot and a vineyard(?? -- just a lot with all types of grapes planted).

I have a few more lots in the Agriculture area mapped out and hopefully will get them all this weekend. Mainly - a farm, a community garden, a horse training center and an arena.

I also have two more lots placed and 1/2 finished in the Sherwood subdivision. I also replaced the original townhouses I was using with ones I built for another world that I decided to scrap (well, at least for Sims 3 -- may resurrect it for Sims 4). I think they fit better with the theme of that sub-division.

La Push is still very neglected, but hopefully, I will get there this weekend, too -- but probably not. Its supposed to be a beautiful weekend.

    Gigi

PS __ sorry for the lack of pictures. Flickr seems to be having fits. I will come back and post some pictures once Flickr figures itself out.
