Cats for sure. I love all animals in general, and dogs are fine and there's definitely lots of cute breeds. But dogs are so needy and there are so many bad dog owners out there, it really bums me out.
And for those of you saying cats aren't friendly, it just depends on how they have been raised. My Liam spends all night, every night with me. A few years ago, I spent the night in the hospital and he cried for me all night.
Both I really can't pick just one, I spent my life surrounded by many of both and I loved them all so much. You haven't lived fully until have a dog and a cat under the same roof.
I like and have both. Dogs are great because they're easier to play with and are always happy to see you. On the other hand, cats are very entertaining. They're also very lovable when they're in the mood for it, but are also pretty independent, meaning they tend to give me my space more than the dogs do.

And dogs. I don't dislike cats but I like to have animals to cuddle up to you and just be a companion.. The cats that want to cuddle I'm totally good with.
It's kind of sad that I have to point out that anything I say is only just my opinion and may be a different one from someone else.
Though cats are more suited to my lifestyle so I'm more likely to always be a cat owner owned by a cat than ever be a dog owner. But I still love dogs, and would love to have one or two someday if I can find one that I can care for properly and fairly (or just have lifestyle changes that make it easier).
