Yeah, I was just buying individual items that I thought I'd use a while back, but stopped once I realized if I wanted the set it'd charge me for what I had, essentially.
Now that they have this new feature, I'm trying to decide whether or not to continue to get items I find aesthetically pleasing/love and hopefully they'll make my sets go down enough for green or at least lower, or to just do the compilations/sets, even if not discounted.
I did notice though that the discounts for having even just one item out of, say, 16 is more than it should be. For example, there was a set where the one item I had was only 75 simpoints individually, but my discount was 100+ simpoint discount. Go figure.
Now if only I could find somewhere that updates regularly for Sims 3 collection files/icons.

ashcrash19 -- If you look on the "Current DD (Daily Deal) Rotation ..." thread there are several simmers who have worked out a formula to figure out the best way to combo things to get the best deal. Just ask your question over there; they are super helpful.

You're welcome, ashcrash! I've been hanging out in that thread for the last week or so so I have seen your type of question asked several times (even asked for help myself to get the best deal on a couple of sets) .

I'm trying to figure out for worlds, compilations, and sets I still need (which is a lot).
For example: The Up the Ante compilation comes with the casino and the double package of the casino games.
But Lucky Palms Gold comes with the casino and half of those casino games.
If I went with the Lucky Palms Gold I'd just need the other table, but it's only offered in the compilation or double for 800.
So, I'd have to do the Up the Ante Compilation + Lucky Palms Standard.
So confusing, because I assume this isn't the only compilation that does this.:?
I guess I need to click on every compilation and list if I have it discounted at all or whatever.
Another thing I discovered was after looking at the Ultra Lounge Compilation, Kids! 2010 compilation, and Tip Top Toddler compilation, I would actually need the Ultra Lounge compilation + Tip Top Toddler. If I did the Kids! one, it'd overlap with the ultra lounge items.
*head feels like it's going to explode"
I love these compilations, but not all of them are just, say, all the Asian sets put together.
There is overlap but this list has some minimizing on the overlap. Also though it is out of date I don't think any new Compilations came out the doc I have linked on page one can be sorted so show overlap on sets and some items.
I don't have a lot of store content like you do ashcrash and this is what I am doing. I went through and picked out the sets I would like as a priority. I watch the Daily Deals for items to come up from those sets and then I snag them on DD. That will reduce my price for the full set, when I am ready for it... I am going to try to nickel and dime it down a lot!
This doesn't work for sets that do not have CYS, however. But! There are a few sets that do not have CYS, but they are in a compilation that does have CYS, so it's still ok to get single items to chip down the compilation prices.

Yeah, even if you want to just buy the items you like most when browsing; they all will contribute in some form to either a set or compilation.
I'm trying to decide which is better worth my money:
The $40 Midnight Hollow special with 5,000 simpoints
vs. the $60 Midnight Hollow special with 7,900 simpoints.
Obviously one gives more simpoints than the other, but it's also $20 more.

Firstly thank you so much for all your hard work into putting together this list for the rest of us Much appreciated!
I have a question for anyone that may know the answer I am in the process of downloading all my store content again after a factory reset and was wondering, is it better for my game to install a compilation pack or is downloading the individual sets okay. Is downloading a compilation like when you merge CC packages into one bigger file reducing game lag?
What I am trying to figure out is the least amount of overlap in my folders, do they even double up in the folder if I say download a set by itself then a compilation that contains the same set? Or does one overwrite the other?
I don't mind if it takes longer to do one than the other, its all about whats best for my game. I have been experiencing some loading issues and rendering lag lately and thought maybe it was the amount of packages in my DCBackup folder. There was almost 4000 files in there. I know you can just delete the contents of that but I create homes to share and if I do that then the content wont show up in my upload. So I have read..
So yeah, whats the best way to install all my store stuff Sorry for the drawn out question lol
The list is a balance between least download with minimal overlap and some with even less over lap option.
When I downloaded last I didn't seem to have any over lap using the less overlap more downloads the ones I have the compilation then the -> options.
It maybe not be 100% guarantee but definitely quite on when I crossed referenced my in game dash I had a few I uninstalled via in game dash was only really 20mins cross referencing I almost shouldn't have bothered it was so minimal overlap for my case. But I did not own 100% sets at that time probably only 80-90%.
Do you happen to know how much it would cost to own the whole store, simpoint wise?
I already have a bit of it, but I was hoping someone knew a grand total?
I own the Store, but I was gifted some of it, got a lot of stuff on sale.
On the flip side, I also gifted things to people. Or accidentally bought stuff I already owned. And I'm not always patient enough to wait for sales...
I could tell you exactly how much I spent on Simpoints, in Euros, since it's in my billing history. What my total comes down to in US$ is difficult to calculate, given the fluctuating exchange rates, but a ballpark figure is about US$1650.
My guestimate is that you could probably own the Store for US$1200 or so.
I knew one day I would NeEeEeed to reinstall my games and dreaded my massive monster collection of installation files. So when CYS came out I thought it was cool and all but not for me.. YET...
When you made this thread I immediately bookmarked it because I knew I'd have to xfer PC's at some point...
Using this thread and the single items thread you so kindly linked as well I have been able to install my store content onto my new computer (!!! !!!) fairly easily, FOR ONCE!! Without having to use my old installation files, and minimal fishing thru my incredibly cluttered purchase history (They REALLY need better sort options for that thing, why do all my giftings HAVE to mingle in every sort option?) so it made my installation ordeal much less aggravating!
Now I can go PLAY my game sooner than I would've if I had to sort through all that mess!
Okay, pretend I'm stupid. :P I want to download Everything with the least amount of overlap, yet download as many compilations as possible. So, if I download these things, will that do the trick?
Humble apologies, I am a bit confused  by all the additional notes, so er I removed them. :P Do I need to download everything listed under "Sets"? I am particularly confused by that part. Btw, I love you. :P

Are the "Everyday" clothing options fro child through adult in a compilation? It's under this set category: http://store.thesims3.com/setsProductListing.html?catalogId=10143&categoryId=&scategoryId=13021&pcategoryId=12859&ppcategoryId=13021

I went ahead and downloaded the individual sets one by one. I guess the only question left would be
Is there anything that comes ONLY in a compilation set?
From what I can see I would say no
On the flip side, I also gifted things to people. Or accidentally bought stuff I already owned. And I'm not always patient enough to wait for sales...
