Mine's nothing terribly fancy or fast I think. I don't play with a ton of cc (none at present) but I have every pack (Expanions, Game packs and Stuff packs) My loading screens are 2-4 seconds at most.
Its one of the Asus boards (don't know which one)
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 six-core 3.85 GHz
Memory : 16 GB
64 bit OS WIndows 10
Nvidia GeForce GT 1030
1TB HDD
120 GB SSD
240 GB SSD
Loving yourself is the most simple and complicated thing you can do for you.
@SimTrippy just checked and Origin is saving everything in the C-Drive, so it should be going to the SSD. There doesn’t see, to be another graphics card besides the RTX 2070 (that is the graphics card, right? Sorry I’m terrible with computers!)
Yes I think so! If you want to be really really sure, right-click the C-drive and check in properties how much space it has. Since one is 500 and one 1000 you'll be sure after that And yes, that's the RTX - did you check everywhere in dxdiag to make sure you don't see something like "Intel HD Graphics"? Because I'm not on my laptop so I'm not entirely sure where that would be. Alternatively, I think if you go into the NVidia panel, it should also show you what games it has optimized settings for. I think it does this automatically. If you see TS4 there, I'm pretty sure it's running on the RTX. But then I'm out of ideas and would probably go back to my initial advice: if it hasn't bothered you so far, don't let that poll discourage you about your laptop. It sounds like it's really good! And if it's not acting weird and has sufficient cooling, you should be fine!
My loading screens are under 5 seconds, I have a pretty expensive gaming laptop that I upgrade every so often as well. Another thing I did was edit my graphic settings, forgot which settings I enabled but I see a difference in gameplay. I’ll update my comment once I can get on my laptop.
@MaggieMarley To clarify, processors come with integrated graphics to step in when there is no dedicated graphics card present. Desktops will always try to use the dedicated card over the integrated chip but sometimes laptops end up using the integrated chip even when there is dedicated graphics card (not always... but sometimes). Yes, you have both an integrated chip Intel UHD Graphics 630 & a dedicated graphics card GeForce RTX 2070. Your graphics card should be used over the chip. Make sure it's already set correctly for the game: https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/776882/sims-4-and-switchable-graphics-how-to-nvidia-amd/p1
edit to add: It seems Sims 4 is installed onto your SSD (C: main drive) and not the SSHD (D: secondary drive). SSD is faster
Make sure you are not using 'Laptop Mode' in the in-game settings. A lot of people are confused by this setting and think they should be using it for laptops but it's really meant for any computer that struggles to run the game failing to meet system requirements.
Hey @MaggieMarley don't worry about it, you're not bothering me at all! I think @SimplyJen summed it up nicely. It appears the game is installed on the correct drive. And yes, laptops sometimes use the integrated card for no discernible reason (I know mine did - it used it for many other things too, so I had to go and manually change some of these things). I think the link she shared should help you figure out if the right card is used. If, however, you still have doubts after trying these steps, don't worry - just ask! If all else fails, I'll check on my laptop how it looks there and try to share screenshots
No I'm sure those differences are due to changes they've made since that post! But if it's showing that it's running TS4 while you're playing, you're all good. I think if it's on the correct drive + run on the right graphics card, there isn't much else that could be slowing down your loading screens. You could, however, take out the mods & CC you have. If you have any? Just to see whether one of them might be slowing things down. It can happen.
My load time is under 10 seconds on both my desktop and my laptop, though they both load from clicking play to the world screen almost instantly, loading from the map to the family takes about 6 seconds on my laptop (very lightly modded as in 3-4 mods and a couple lipsticks, skins, and that's about it) and varies between 5-8 seconds on my desktop (over 10GB CC and nearly 300 mods).
My desktop is custom built. I picked all the parts and my step dad installed them.
AMD Ryzen 5 2600
G.Skill TridentZ 32GB RAM
1TB Samsung EVO SSD (Game installed on) + 2TB Western Digital Black HDD
Zotac AMP! GTX 1070 8GB
My laptop is a bit older, though I just recently got it. It was originally bought as my writing laptop, but I do game on it quite often.
Intel i7 7700HQ
8 GB RAM (I'll be upgrading to 16GB soon)
500GB SSD + 1TB HDD
GTX 1050Ti
My loading times are still a bit slow, but I have a save that is very old and large, if I click new game and load a household, then it will only take a couple of seconds.
Can being online or offline affect loading times? I think my internet can be a bit patchy with sims because lately I keep having to connect to the gallery when I use it despite already being online... Unless that’s just the gallery acting up, because my internet works fine for everything else
I don't think so But I also often have to reconnect to the gallery after opening it.
By the way, is it only the first time you load a household that it takes so long? What about households you open thereafter? And how often do use bb.moveobjects / a lot of clutter in your homes? Also do you generally play with large households? Because I'm pretty sure those things can affect load times. My 8 member household takes a few seconds more than a 3 sim one. Especially because they live on a large lot that is filled with stuff:
Plus they are fishermen, so their inventories tend to be pretty full sometimes. Could any of those things be relevant to your case?
Oh dear I think I have figured out what is wrong in my laptop. Although the CPU is good (Intel i7-8750H), the processor speed is poor (2.2GHz, although it does have 6 cores - not sure if that makes a difference). Apparently for gaming the processor speed should be more like 3-4GHz. I just assumed the processor speed on a GAMING laptop would be good. Plum
Might not be your problem, mine is 2.2ghz as well and my laptop runs sims 4 fast with no lagging.
Here is my specs
I do however play completely cc and mod free game, perhaps that could make a difference?
@mcrudd our specs look very similar. Here's mine:
I don't experience any lag or problems either - it's just the longer loading times. I don't have any CC and my only mods are MCCC and a vampire powers mod (I checked and the loading times are the same without my mods). Out of curiosity, how long are your loading screens?
I fall under the less than 5 seconds. Thats so weird though. Our specs are identical.
