Reset (Restart)-Itis Is Plaguing Me! RESOLVED

Considering we may only be able to take one Teen at a time through High School, I'm totally plagued with the notion I should restart my Cantrell family again. This time have them born in game, at least four Sim days apart. I play on Long, so I may have to age them up prematurely to have them ready for the new EP (is it high school years? HSY) I just know that today, instead of playing to advance the ages of Gen. 3 of the Cantrell Clan, I'm completely unsettled. Not the same as PEPs, at all. This is more of crisis mode. Either way, it's painful

Just had a thought that burst through the gloomy clouds over my head. I suppose I could create a brand new save and see how it goes, once I install HSY. If it works out with Gen. 3, the new save can simply be deleted.

Somebody talk me off of that proverbial Wall!

Seriously consider sticking with them. You can play the new generation through the new expansion instead!

I totally sympathise with re-startis (as I am confident you know from my posts). Don’t beat yourself up if you start over, but do try to stick with it. Perhaps we can beat it together? (I’m doing good at the moment but you never know when I reach my own trigger point).

My trigger point was the one scene in the Trailer that showed the girl climbing down out of her bedroom to go to the Prom! Somehow, (and I hope my assumption is wrong) but it gave me the impression high school is a Boarding school! Plus, I'm worried that we can't control all of our Teen Sims, as we can do when we place students into the same dorm in Uni.

I know, in the game I stopped due to mod problems, Jamison was a Teen, as were the TWINS Melodie and Harmony. The younger two sons, Andrew and Peter aged up to Child. and so did the baby, Cadence. This time around, the game threw a wrench into my plot. Instead of twins, I got triplets. I got Andrew, but instead of Peter I got Carina. Now, because I clicked on an interaction from a mod I just installed, I gambled and lost. Another baby is on the way.

(And not the Butler's, either.)

I totally feel as if I've messed it all up again. I guess, I could try to walk it back to when they first move to HoB? This time control the gender and order of the babies better — although in my own defense, I did have the second baby set to be twin girls, but the game decided otherwise. I didn't set Andrew to be a boy, either. Neither did I set Carina. Then I had the couple woohoo without 'protection' as it were, and lost. Oi!

However, Erik has just won his eighteenth award so he's one Accolade ahead of the save I've kept, since I learned how he can win for his music.

I suppose if it turns out we can only control one of our Teens during HSY, I could use MCCC to change the age-span manually to make it work. Oi this is such a mess in my mind.

I had not heard about that possible limitation yet.. that would be unfortunate.

You might consider turning aging off and sending the Cantrell brood through one at a time (then turning aging back on when they're all done). Not sure how well that would work (kind of depends on the High School expansion I guess) but it's a thought.

Of course, restarting is also a perfectly valid approach. I don't even want to tell you how many different versions of my Silveroak-Goth family I have sitting in various saves and restarts.

Right now, I'm contemplating just what it would be like if a young Global Superstar, (such as Erik Cantrell), was on campus? I recall seeing a segment in the Trailer, or in the information thread that students have afterschool activities, or they can just go home to do their homework. I got the possibly wrong impression it was a Boarding School due to the gal climbing out of her bedroom window to go to the Prom. Little sneak!

but since it's been stated the students could participate in afterschool activities or just go home, that gives me the answer. It's NOT a Boarding School. PHEW!

Like I suggested in one of my other threads on the HSY EP, I may just go ahead and restart the Cantrells (Gens. 1 & 2). It may be quite fun to have Erik rise to fame during his high school years and how the others (NPCs) react when he hits the big time. I can hopefully place Kayleigh there, too to see if they hit it off again. So many possibilities.

As for the number of Restarts/Refreshes/Redux I have done over time is too many to count, or even remember. LOL

Unless they've found a way around it, my guess is HSY will function similar to GtW. If you have two scientists, doctors, or detectives, you can only follow one of the sims to work at a time.

I put my Xalavdor family on hold because of the pack. The twins just aged up to teens and since I want this to be a legacy-style save, I want them to be the first to experience high school.

As for your dilemma, I have to agree with @NRowe. You've made it so far with the Cantrells this time. If it were me, I would just keep going with that save. Maybe it will help form the personalities of that generation and make you want to continue the legacy. It may make you more attached to the save than you already are.

@GalacticGal breath with me in..and...out 🙂. You've got a bit over two weeks to work it out, though I think a "flashback" type of save is a great idea. Btw, it's not a boarding school; the woman in the scene of the girl climbing out the window is her mother (whose also the school principle).

I think a flashback save would be so much better than a complete restart. I've only been on here since late February so I'm not familiar with how far back your Cantrell save goes, but it sounds like you've invested a lot of time and yourself into it. It would be a shame to lose it all. By this time next week we'll have a lot better idea how this is going to work. I would keep the flashback idea in the back of your mind until then and in the meantime enjoy your time with the Cantrell's. I feel @SweetieWright_84 is spot on with how this will work. I would rotate and each day, spend the entire school day with that one sim and so on. I feel like it will all work out for you and you won't need to restart.

would it be too much to make a copy of them how they are and age everyone down that you want and play them one way in another save and restart another save? See which road is best before you delete or start over completely.

Well that's disappointing, I was hoping that we could send more than one through at a time.
I think the idea of having a flash back save is a good one, that way you still get to send Erik through high school and keep your current save.

I don't plan on deleting at all. I'm just going to start a new save with the Cantrell family to play Erik through High School. I will not abandon the REDUX version at all. In fact, Erik is up for yet another Accolade … In all likelihood, I'll abandon the Flashback save, once Erik graduates. In other words, this should nestle right up to the start of the REDUX story.

To be honest, I've thought about that. I did spend yesterday setting up, partially, the Flashback Save. I won't abandon the Main Save I have now. I tried to recreate this family, since the first pregnancy turned out to be a boy. So I went ahead and specified the second pregnancy (which was a bonus the first time) was twin girls. Instead, I got triplets! I persevered, only to discover, the game threw yet another monkey wrench in making what should have been the third son, a fourth daughter! And, now the couple goofed up altogether with yet another one on the way!

My intention is to have Erik go through HS, as a celebrity. I think I will have a blast with this. but I want to have it nestle into the beginning of the REDUX storyline. So, once he's graduated high school, I will likely just set it aside. This will truly be a Flashback.

From there I'll try to figure out what to do with the Erik Cantrell family and their spoiled brat kids!

ETA: Ooh, I just realized how i could knit the two storylines together. Jamison could be ready to start HS and this could send Erik into a pile of memories as he contemplates what the journey through will be for his son.

RESOLVED: I spend yesterday beginning a new save. I even labeled the current save folder: REDUX and placed a new folder into my game. Then I started this new save to be labeled Flashback. It is designed specifically to follow Erik Cantrell through his high school years. I made Aaron a YA, and Brianna a Child and Adrian a Toddler. If it turns out we can only control one Teen through school, then I'll age Joey down to a child just older than Bree. I have turned off aging, for the time-being since I decided to start my game in Summer. I have two-week long seasons. Erik has managed in the past to reach Global Superstar in as few as ten Sim days. I pray this can happen again, so that he's got this status when he begins school.

I will ultimately keep the REDUX save, by all means. I may alternate game play between the two different saves until the EP is released. Once we learn if we can control more than one Sim in school, I'll make a decision on Erik's children. The whole idea, is to eventually connect these two saves. In fact, I had an apostrophe (as Smee said in 'Hook': of course he meant epiphany) in that the Flashback stories can begin once Jamison, Erik's eldest is set to begin his four-year journey in education. This will set Erik upon a journey of his own, reminiscing about his years spent in high school. Then we may follow Jamison for a bit. I may even alternate Erik's memories with Jamison's reality, who knows? Just snippets.

I know this is the correct path for me as I am at peace with this decision.

I thank each and every one of you for your kind responses in helping me to sort this all out! Your advice was invaluable to me. You are all wonderful players and I like how we can all share and get and give help to others when needed. Many, many thanks!

I'm glad your feeling good again GalacticGal.

Myself, told you that I could be triggered with my own re-startitis at any time. The way my Mum and I share Sims is mainly through building. We have some super times where she builds a shell and then we both decorate to our own tastes. It can be something to see!
Anyway, we did that this weekend, on Key Point. The house (mine) looks awesome (if I do say so

)
Unfortunately it's a bit out of Bonnie and Rylee's price range.

I'm also acutely aware that my game now features a santa, random vampires, incidental magic and a ghost that runs around acting like a regular human. One moment I'm totally loving that Bonnie travelled to the magic realm to learn how to wield magic simply to bring her lover to life. The next, I'm annoyed.

I see that the longer one plays, the more goes "wrong" with the story/game. I got upset when Neighborhood Stories split up my Glimmerbrook housemates {note to self, next time be more vigilant with NS settings!} Similar to your situation with Eric's kids.
I'm irritated that I didn't know more about playing a ghost and resurrecting one. I'd like to have that 'lore' down better, for example, in my mind the ghost probably shouldn't just be able to walk into the bank or be the random delivery person for your odd job nom noms (should they??)

Anyway, I'm staring a restart right in the face.

The thought of that annoys me. I have a household with 2 teens and I was hoping to take both to school. I also really hope the game does not start graduating my teens I am playing in another household. I really hope they thought about rotational players.

@keekee53 I don't mean to spread speculative thoughts about an EP that isn't even released, yet. I will make certain I tune in to the Livestream come Friday, or at least watch the recorded version. I placed a couple of questions in the thread asking for them, in advance of said Livestream. I just know how it worked in Get to Work, where I had two Sims from the same household in the Science career. I followed one to work, and the other was there, but I couldn't control her at all, just the one I 'followed'. Some of my concern is based on things prior. However, if you send students to the same Uni and have them live in the very same Dorm, you can control them, the way you do those in the same household, the dorm effectively becoming a household. Still, the NPCs like the Butler, can't be controlled. Hence, my concerns. I will take Erik through, even if Joey can't be controlled. I don't intend to play this new save all the way. I'm just wanting to explore HSY with Erik. I've figured out a way to marry this to the ongoing save.

You can go back and recreate scenes that you missed, like my autonomous proposal, or doing flashbacks like taking Erik through high school and you don't risk messing up the main story.

Go for it! It just might set you free, so to speak. Once I got off of the fence, thanks to those who responded with their opinions, I went with my heart and started a new save I call Flashback. Although, I do intend to marry the events in Flashback to the Redux save, I'm also having doubts about losing Thorne Bailey, Dirk Dreamer to NS. Carina (who in all fairness was 44 years into her Elderhood) and of course, losing Joseph, Sr. No wonder, Erik's kids are brats! They live in a world of doom and gloom! If I do continue on with Flashback, I'll make certain there are more days between his kids to help control the chaos. LOL I always turn aging off when I have kids in Uni.

This new save is incredible. Day one, Erik writes a phenomenal song, that gets nominated instantly. He ends up doing a photoshoot and that kicked him up to Notable Newcomer. then he wins the Karaoke contest at the highest point value Erik has EVER received, 87 pts. . The only thing troubling me is Kayleigh calls Joey to talk about something that was bothering Joey. To my knowledge, when and how did they meet? But, once she meets Erik, I'm sure the ship will right itself on that. He was also invited to promote a digital book on his Simstagram account. The lad now had a total of 21,000 Simoleons, including the photoshoot he did on Monday evening. This means he can cut an album on his own. I was hoping this is what would happen when I began the Redux save. That Erik didn't receive a nomination until he was already up there in stars. I wanted this to be a part of his rise to fame. So, if I end up following this one, perhaps, all will understand. I'll just have to see how it continues to play out. At the moment I've turned aging off. I don't want Erik to graduate until after he's spent the four years in hs. Not knowing what to expect, I don't know if the AI will go by age. The only other thing I can think of to do would be to lower Joey to Child, but still keeping him several days older than their only sister, and reduce Erik's days into this Teens to 0. I love MCCC.

I was also vexed that the Child, Melodie, was diagnosed with high blood-pressure, which is why I decided to uninstall this mod. Joey had already gone through Med School and all the exams. Had I uninstalled it once he took the job offer to become a General Practioner at the hospital, Joseph may yet be alive. Carina, well, she was 44 days into her Elderhood. I installed the latest SOL and now regret the interaction that resulted in another pregnancy. This one wasn't planned for.

Part of my decision on what to do will hinge on how high school works. If we can send more than one Teen to high school, even if we can't control all of them, like we can in Uni, if they share the same dorm, I'll make it work. I'm now wishing Erik's kids weren't so very close in age. (I suppose, Kayleigh could have a miscarriage but she's now nearly into her third trimester.) It's a bit sticky. So, I'll have to take all things into account before I choose one save over the other. If I go with the new save, I'll make certain the babies are no less the seven days apart. Maybe a bit more.

Oh I didn't think you were spreading speculative thoughts. I have been thinking the same thing myself. I have a household with 2 teens and I play rotationally. So, I am already very concerned about how the gameplay is going to work. I agree with you and I think your concerns are valid.

You have a lot more mods that effect gameplay than I do. I only have WonderfulWhims and MCCC, the rest are just script mods to stop certain autonomous actions. I wasn't aware of Private Practice. It sounds interesting but also a little too real for me. I'm a nervous mom to my sims as it is.
