My friend from Europe just recently purchased a copy of the Sims 3 pets via steam, and when he did, i noticed something rather alarming. What i found out is that the price for older titles has DOUBLED ever since EA's move to Origin.
The sims 3 is definitely worth the price, but this is just shady.

All I know is EA and Steam made a deal and raised the prices of their older games that were still on Steam from before they parted ways previously. I can't answer as to why for some reason they ignored Sims 3.

If you live in the EU, you can now view all EU stores for the Origin Store both on the web and in the Origin client. Learn how to switch your store here.
@telmarina - Which country do you live in? When I checked on Origin website an hour ago I could only find The Sims 3 Starter Pack (=Base game + Late Night Expansion and High-End Loft Stuff Pack) for 39,99 euro. The base game alone doesn't seem to be available, if it is I couldn't find it.

Maybe The Sims 3 is like wine. It gets better with age?
Steam: $26.99

Looking at sales figures. 7.96M for TS3; 4.1M for TS4.

Could also be a country's taxes.
Most countries require stores to post prices that INCLUDE tax when they advertise price.
The US does not. So our price is without tax.
The other countries have their price as converted from dollars and then their tax added. And countries have different tax rates, I think many countries in Europe have a higher tax than the US.
So keep that in mind as well when looking at prices and comparing.
