Tried my first Jungle Adventure today and boy it's boring

Turns out this pack is almost as pointless as the other vacation pack.
Rent is too high.
Equipment is too expensive.
Digging is too slow
Antidotes are WAY too epensive
It takes WAY too long to get the culture skill. I want to learn that dance, 🐸🐸🐸🐸!

At least it is mildly entertaining, unlike Outdoor Adventures that has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

That's interesting. I'm not the biggest fan of JA either, but I actually disagree with all of those reasons

The rewards definitely make up for all those expenses that you consider to be too high ... and I had my sim max the culture skill in like 5 minutes real time just by talking to the locals :D

The thing is neither of my sims have a high salary nor many vacation days yet. I guess if you have played enough so you have 20 vacation days and a daily salary of say 2000 - 4000 per sim then it's dfferent. I don't have TIME to talk to the locals and explore, I have to pick one. I can only afford 2 vacation days.

My sim actually got rich doing adventures. I went to Selvadorada with about 1000 simoleons. After 4 trips there, later on, with the money I started earning by selling relics and exploring the temple, I have almost 50k on my funds and a mastered archeology and selvadoradean skills. I'm definitely doing something right ahaha. But my sim almost died by poison, twice, not to mention the times he got set on fire by the 🐸🐸🐸🐸 fire flies and traps.

How high the rent is depends on you as you can change the rental lots to your own liking and the lower the worth of the lot, the lower the rent. You could turn one of the lots into a campground, for example, if you have OR anyway.

    G3lFXPS.jpg

I built this because I wanted to give the trip more of an adventure vibe.
Bathrooms (toilets, sink, shower) are in the little house and sims can cook on either the barbecue or roast something over the open fire. My campground rent is high at §240/night, because I wanted a pool and built it on a 30x30 lot. But if you build yours on a smaller lot and don't add a pool, I am sure you can go under §200/night.

The rest is a matter of playstyle, I suppose. I spent each holiday 50/50 socialising and adventuring and my sims always come back with more money then they came with.

Hope you'll find a way to get some enjoyment out of this pack!
If I just posted an outfit you like, I have good news - there is more where that came from!

The great thing about having Outdoor Retreat is that it's objects are highly usable outside of it.

I take my sim's tent anywhere to the jungle so he can sleep near the Omiscan ruins whenever. Even inside the temple when it's needed ahaha

This is so true, even while not vacation. I play all of my main sims rags to riches style and I use OR objects all the time for that reason. The tents are obviously great and the beds and the shower from this pack are the only ones that look right on a lot before you can afford walls.
Nice pictures, by the way. I still love the whole look of Selvadorada.

Sounds like you're one of those city slickers that wants everything done right quick...here and now hurry up! Pfft...lol As for the money, things take time. I can't even earn any more money because the limit is maxed out. Both my Sims have invested and make over 400k each a week. There's ways to make money, but just like life, things take time. If you are that impatient might I suggest you to do a few cheat commands to instantly give your Sims money without having to do anything? Get rich, quit the stupid jobs, and have as much time for vacation as you want.

Easy to say; the treasure hunting is fairly low on priorities. A luxuru villa comes first. Among other things.

...Okay, I have to revise this a bit.
The jungle part is still utterly boring. When I actually made it to the temple? Much better. Not amazing, but... the grind / gameplay loop / whatever you want to call it works. I did make a hefty profit in the end, so I am willing to go back soon, actually.

    Okay...
    Went back.

    And found another problem.
I have taken 4 days of vacation, which is all the vacation time my sims have. So far I have only visited one area in TWO DAYS because I lost the machete, and there is not a single machete on sale. For two days.

Is there a mod the guarantees that you can get a hold of the items you need without having to quit your job?

I did exactly the same xD and I honestly love the archaeology stuff in JA. It's a cool way to make a lot of money but still having to invest quite a bit of sim time. I also like that you can earn money by doing archaeology for that museum thing.

To the OP: I'm sad to hear you're not enjoying the vacation. JA is definitely my favorite GP so far, both in terms of gameplay and objects. Maybe when your sims have worked more and got more money and days to spend you'll enjoy it more :)

Well I CAN, but it takes about 3 sims hours to clear one door.
I finally resorted to it, which led to a few fun screenshots (the girlfriend sitting on the cooler eating food while watching her boyfriend trying to tear off wines as thick as his arms for HOURS)

As for enjoying it... I do like the temple! That's what I like about this pack.
The Jungle parts in between? It's like Maxis decided to make it a boring as possible on purpose.

Plus really REALLY bad design decisions:
    1. Randomized gear???
    2. Randomized gear FOR SALE!?!?!? (this one is either not playtested at all, or somebody decided to deliberately troll players)
    3. Boring but mandatory "chance cards" when going through an opening, more likely than not leading to you losing a machete, or getting poisoned (Is there a mod that removes the chance cards?)
    4. EVERYTHING takes so much TIME. Not only does it cost me several hundred Simolions per night. It also makes me waste vacation days! From Several sim hours worth of chopping through wines, to long LONG walking distances on the maps, to the utterly stupid decision not to allow fast travel directly to an area you have already discovered. That last one is what really bugs me. I can understand that I have to rediscover all areas at each visit, but during the same vacation? NO. Give me my 🐸🐸🐸🐸 fast travel to the temple! NOW!

But yes, this game pack is still FAR better than Outdoor Retreat, which I still fail to see the point of. You do basically the same things you do in any park in the game, but it costs a lot of money, and it is harder to fill up needs.

I guess something in this gamepack is holding me. I have just decided that Agathe will quit her job and become a full time explorer. DESPITE me being so 🐸🐸🐸🐸 annoyed at so much. I guess the 16000 simolions or so you earn each round in the temple makes up for it. ;)

when a sim maxes the selvadoradan culture skill, they can ask vendors in the jungle to show their 'secret' wares. which allows purchase of unlimited machetes, among other things. and the culture skill can be extremely easy to level up. order local drinks at the cantina and/or food stall (food stall is cheaper, while it's open), chat with locals about local sights, heritage and such as those options open up. it only caps at 5. and level 4 is where you learn the new dances. level 5 also makes your sims immune to fireflies/lightning bugs without needing the gear for dealing with them

also, higher gardening skill makes using hands at the gates faster (and they raise gardening while doing it). both my main exploration families had max level gardeners as their patriarch/matriarch (one per), since both were also scientists who had worked up gardening to splice plants for work

double also, when your sim gets high enough in the archaeology skill, museums will mail them artifacts to authenticate, sending these back to them afterwards can make quite a bit of money. after a while, the pack makes it too easy to get money (some say, at least)

All of that sounds great. Too bad I had no way of knowing that from the start. It really is VERY frustrating if you go in with low-level sims.

oh, don't i know it. have sent several groups of unskilled sims out to test various things (one was a plantsim, just to see if they got anything unique there. didn't expect they would, and they don't, though he seemed to never encounter thorns while clearing vines through hand, and i never used a machete with him just to see about the thorns)

i cheated a local selvadoran into one household too, just for story purposes, but also partially to see if they got anything interesting or new. it seems they're created with 3-5 in the culture skill. interesting that they're not all already max in it, esp with the 'safe from fire/lightning bugs' bit. the story reason is it was meant to be about a century in the past when they explored, the main member of this family is a vampire scientist and anthropologist, so the selvadoran was meant to be his guide when he went on the first ever archaeological expedition to the jungle (with sepia toned pictures for authenticity). actually got kind of hard keeping the wife out of the way and working on skills on her own and not taking the pictures. the selvadoran is now a poison ghost (which took way, way, way too many attempts to poison, even with nothing in any skills) and still stays with the family. is a bit interesting because of the ghost's effect.

even when played, selvadorans have the same interactions when other sims talk to them (talk about local heritage and such) and can make the poison antidotes when asked, but they can't make the antidotes out of inventory. have to be asked about it from another sim, which is a bit odd. the antidotes can be cloned, though, so i've got several with both my science households, now. though it apparently cannot be sold in retail stores

also, if you have outdoor retreat, you can have sims ask selvadoran vendors to show their wares, which lets you buy tents and such akin to the ranger station in outdoor retreat does. also pet supplies and a few other things, if i recall (or has those since the pet expansion, just in case you forgot to bring any with your pets). if you kept the trailhead lot (right outside the first gate to the jungle) a trailhead, it's a really good idea to edit the lot to include a fire pit, a few tents, some pet supplies (i have a litter box, 3-4 chew toys, 2 food dishes hidden among the vegetation), a tub for washing dogs (i cheated in a handiness crafted wooden tub), maybe a cooler and a few other things. i put in an outdoor shower beneath one of the giant trees, forgetting that sims can just take showers in the nearby public bathroom. but they may like the outdoor one better, anyway

    Thank you,
I did know about the tents and pet stuff since I was looking for a new machete.
(Oh Maxis: "Secret items" is not a good enough hint for "when your culture skill is maxed you can buy machetes all the time". "Secret Items" means, at least to me, "new stuff")

I love Jungle Adventures. Though I will admit that anything greater than 3 days, I tend to get bored as well. I usually send my vampire Sim on two day trips....exploring at night. I've been playing this Sim for years, so she's pretty much maxed out most skills. Being level 10 in gardening I have her clear the paths with her hands. She'll collect a lot of omiscan treasures & relics and can easily make $20K per visit. I'm actually having her collect as much as she can as she just opened her Jungle Adventure Relic retail store, & putting a high markup, they sell for quite a bit. I'm also on the hunt for a specific relic base & top to fuse together. I got lucky in another Save when I was exploring the pack & was able to fuse together the 'mark for death' curse & I'm looking for that relic pieces again lol.

So OP I definitely feel you on staying in Selvadorada for a long time as it can get boring. But in my case, my Sim is on a mission to get the retail store going & find that relic top/base, so it makes it fun. But if I were to send a family for 4 days, I think I would get bored. I prefer Granite Falls for family fun & Selvadorada for exploring the temples.

I use money cheat all the time, so nothing is ever too costly for my Sims. If a skill is progressing too slowly for my liking, I just use a skill cheat. Whatever it takes to keep the game fun. Whether or not a game disappoints is highly subjective. A feature can please one and displease another. I enjoy collecting stuff, so JA has stuff I want. Selvadorada is beautiful and absolutely awesome for taking screenshots. I love exploring new foods and drinks and appreciate the Rumbasim as well. And that's just the gameplay portion. Add all the awesome CAS and build mode items :)

Something I discovered yesterday is that there are 'townie' skeletons in the temple that walk around and that your sims can chat with. Encountered two so far, not sure if more. I forget the names, but they're amusing.
