Also - 1. can anyone tell me how to upload an avatar from Sims 4? (all the discussion threads on this topic seem to be re: Sims 3, and the advice does not seem to apply in Sims 4)
and, 2. just wondering in building a home for a new household (one Sim and one pet), how do I calculate the funds I should still have left over to live on until Sim can start a job?
There's many ways to make money in Sims 4 and getting a job is very low on my list. I usualy play teens and they have plenty of money to spend. If You attend festivals, it is often possible to harvest plants and sell em for a profit of thousands. Going on a legendary date and sell reward will give more than 600. Gardening and painting is lucrative and if You sell products online, the profit gets much better. If You have the toilet bushes placed in parks and visit those with the pet, You can make a living by selling feathers and other things your pet gather in the bushes. So give em nice essential stuff for their home and expand when possible.
I have been playing sims since Sims 3! I truly encourage others to just build something that makes them happy, even if the house looks "ugly" for others, whats important is youre happy with what you build! Another is making sims, I truly love the new options for customization in sims 4, but I do miss the sims 3 CAS background~ You can always search on the web if youre stuck on something! like secret keys that can make you place corner floors, alt placing things, and etc! i truly love the "hold alt" to place things since it makes me happier where things would be!
Hello! I know you've probably recieved this recommendation a lot of times but horses really should be added to sims 4. It's honestly a big down-grade for the game and you've lost many players because of it. Please really think about adding horses to sims 4 because it would bring more players to it and with that you would also get more money.
2. just wondering in building a home for a new household (one Sim and one pet), how do I calculate the funds I should still have left over to live on until Sim can start a job?
Hi @storyming your sim will need maybe 20 simoleons a day for food for themself and a pet. The next major expense after that is usually bills, which come once a week. I believe there are no bills in the first week of a new game. Meanwhile your sim can take a job immediately, start going to work the next day, and will get paid at the end of every workday.
With a starter home (that you built using the starter funds of 20,000) it is no big deal to pay the first bills with the first week's income of a regular career. You can click on the mailbox to see what the bills estimate is so far. Bills are based mostly on the value of the house and belongings, but the estimate breaks down what costs come from what.
If you're getting a new computer or getting the OS wiped and want to save builds, you can either copy/paste your saves file ( Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves ) to a flash drive or, post your builds in the Gallery marked "back-up" or something of the sort. (just so other players know they might be unfinished) You can then download them later.
How your Sims builds show your meds' effectiveness
My Sim is a “renaissance” Sim with a creativity trait. I’ve been curious what would happen if I gave my Sim some means to auto-generate income, cheated for handiness skill so she could deal with things that break, stocked her with books, writing material, art supplies, musical instruments, and a performance practice space, and left to game to run. —But from what I’ve seen so far, I am concerned that she would neglect to feed the cat or clean the litterbox (never mind pay the bills!) without my prompting.

For handiness skill, You can let your sim hang out at the gym and soon stuff will break and then You can fix em and learn handiness very fast.
I can not rec letting the game run itself. That's like watching a movie with closed eyes.
Thank you so much! For six games of sims4, I did not see any sim die according to each sim's social panel. I turned off neighborhood stories and it seems to help a lot!
I'm new here been playing since the sims 2 and Urbz in the city love that game wish it would come back for PC or PS4...just wanted to pop in and say hello
Even though I'm new to the forums, I've been playing The Sims 4 for a very long time. What I suggest for new players is to stick with the Base Game (don't buy any packs) for a while, because there are so many creative things you can do in Base Game - it's truly amazing! Search for the #BaseGame hashtag in the Gallery to find some cool creations! Welcome, and have fun!
best tip, and something I can't live without playing this game is UI Cheats Extension v1.34 , it is free on https://www.patreon.com/weerbesu/posts it helps with loads of stuff, needs, money, gameplay. it is a must have.
I have a small YT but I've played the Sims franchise from the start. I remember not being able to find help or just getting very vague answers. I made this to get you started
if you know any new simmers or if you are one yourself .🙂
Hello everyone. I'm a long time sims 3 player trying to decide if the sims 4 is a fitting upgrade for me. Was hoping for a little help in that regard. Not sure if this is the best place to post this but since I can't make my own thread, it'll have to do. I could probably gain half this information from reviews and google but I'm overwhelmed with too much extra and unrelated info when I try. Easier to ask specific questions.
Some info that may be helpful:
I normally play a modified legacy game starting with a single sim who becomes immortal and then starts a mortal family. The generations have random traits and are played as they come. (Outdoor fish lovers do lots of fishing...etc.) And they typically work normal jobs. But the main immortal sim typically does non-traditional / exploration tasks. Exploring the graveyard catacombs, travelling the neighborhood collecting seeds or rocks to grow or sell, ghosthunter or detective jobs, inventing and, my favorite, tomb exploration via world adventures. I like loot-box style reward systems and collection tasks where I display what I get.
So with that in mind: 1) Does the game sound like it would fit my overall playstyle? 2) Are there fairly easy ways to become immortal? (Like the young again potion or age-freeze lifetime reward from sims 3) 3) Are there any good loot-box style "adventures" like the mausoleum from sims 3. 4) Any collection activities where you can wander about and stumble upon things? Like random items as opposed to an always-there harvestable grape plant in the park. 5) Can you display said collections? Or only sell? 6) How does tomb exploration compare to world adventures? 7) Any gambling? I like the casino store content from sims 3. 8) How do lot sizes compare to sims 3? I normally start with a 60x60 lot in sims 3 but all I found for sims 4 was lots are "5 x 6". 9) Any gnomes? 10) Is money overabundant or more balanced in sims 4 compared to sims 3? I like to build up my home over several generations but found sims 3 was too rich without mods. 11) Any interesting / exciting jobs beyond the standard ones? Comparable to ghosthunter or detective from sims 3.
Thank you very much for any help and information you can provide. Trying to find this information one "pack" review at a time was making my head explode.
@Quevik Welcome to the forum! In case you didn’t know, the base game is now free to play, so you could always give it a go and see if it’s your type of game.
To respond to your specific questions, you should know, first off, that TS4 is more of a sandbox game than its predecessors. If you want the game to direct tasks like TS2, it’s not going to do that. It is also not open world like TS3. Worlds are small, but sims are able to freely travel between worlds. Those are the main differences.
There are several ways to immortality in game, depending on packs. Ambrosia is still available. There is also a base game immortality aspiration reward. Packs that include immortality rewards include Get To Work, Seasons, Vampires, Realm of Magic, and Werewolves.
The game isn’t really quest oriented with the exception of Strangerville and Jungle Adventure. There are a lot of collectibles in game that can be displayed on shelves or sold for simoleons.
Jungle Adventure has an archeologist aspiration and an Indiana Jones type quest with ancient tombs and traps. Check it out and see if it it sounds like something you’d enjoy.
There isn’t a casino in game, as of right now.
Lot sizes range from 15x20 to 64x64. A lot of the big lots might be occupied by commercial builds, but you can always bulldoze them.
Sims start with 20,000 simoleons. I don’t generally play careers, but some simmers feel advancing is too easy, while others say it’s hard. Taxes and utilities get crazy high with large lots.
Base game has Astronaut, Secret Agent and Criminal careers in addition to the usual ones. The Paranormal pack has a paranormal investigator career and a full haunted house challenge. There are retail, detective, doctor and scientist careers in Get to Work. The latter leads to exploration of an alien world. Strangerville has the military career. Outdoor Retreat has an herbalist aspiration. Spa Day has a self care specialist career. Cottage Living has farming. Dream Home Decorator has the interior design career. Get Famous has acting with a celebrity system. Cats and Dogs has the Veterinarian career. Island Living has a conservationist career. The game also has part time jobs and freelance/ work from home options such as becoming a published writer, musician, computer programmer, social media influencer, etc.
There’s a lot more to suggest, but hopefully this will get you started.
@cyncie Thank you very much for the information and especially for listing the specific packs that contain each desired feature. Narrowing down my search / review reading like that is going to be insanely helpful. Very much appreciated!
Couple more questions though, if you don't mind. When travelling between worlds, are you "moving" or just "visiting"? Like, is there a base camp in the new world like WA for sims 3, or do I have to buy a house? And do I have to bring my entire family along or can I leave a few back at home?
