I like this thread! Even if laundry wasn't your top choice, we should still come up with eco-friendly options for the pack (regarding laundry). I wrote a really long comment on the "Stuff Pack gameplay feature vote results!" thread about what I thought about the result and included some suggestions for the new pack. I wrote:

" I love that we have the option to do laundry now but I just hope its not too much of a mess since I'm a neat freak and I hate when my sims tell me something is blocking their path. Some ideas for this feature to still make it eco-friendly could be the different types of detergents used, maybe some organic ones? I hope we get a bit of humor thrown in there for clumsy sims, like discolored shirts, soap overflowing, accidentally dropping their phone in there, etc. Maybe certain laundry scents change the mood for sims (or maybe just the neat ones). Maybe slobs have the option to reuse their dirty laundry, with an animation of them picking it up from a dirty piles or hampers and smelling it LOL. If they have penny pixies as a lot trait or klepto as a personality trait, they can probably find items or money in their pockets (or in other people's laundry). "

I also like the grey water idea because I was one of those people who kept writing on the threads about sustainable construction, which includes water systems, solar panels, roof gardens, and etc. Grey water is basically not using potable water for things that do not need it. It is using waste water for baths, sinks, toilets, etc. It can definitely be used for washing machines or wash tubs. It is not dirty however. It goes through several filters/septic systems to clean out most of the unwanted stuff. (if we had the water systems from the off the grid option, it would make more sense). From what I remember when I studied about it, is that it has not come into contact with any human waste. I'll have to research again to remember.

Yeah it said it's like that it doesn't come into contact with human waste.

And the more the world builds up = less plants. My point entirely.

Depends on where you are. Not many people here in Maine but tons of trees. We have a rule - you chop down 1 tree and have to plant 10 in their place. LOL.

    Here's some legit stats -

About 90 percent of Maine is forested, the highest percentage of any state. This includes some 12 million acres in the northern part of Maine where few people live.
Forests for Maine's Future - Forest Facts
    www.forestsformainesfuture.org/forest-facts/

Which state has the most forest land?

    Maine: 89%
    New Hampshire: 77.5%
    West Virginia: 77.2%
    Vermont: 75.7%
    Alabama: 70.6%
    Georgia: 64.2%
    South Carolina: 63.8%
    Mississippi: 61.9%

How much of the United States is covered by forest?
In 1997, 302 million hectares— or 33 percent of the total land area of the United States— was in forest land. Today's forest land area amounts to about 70 percent of the area that was forested in 1630. Since 1630, about 120 million hectares of forest land have been converted to other uses—mainly agricultural.

Oh boy, now I wanna visit Maine. It sounds lovely.

The more the world builds up oxygen or the more the world builds up carbon dioxide? I don't understand. To be honest, if you're concerned with a growing population (if that's what you meant)+ the chopping down of trees, there's always adoption. Not to mention that other animals breathe too, so if you wanted to get rid of all that carbon you could just eliminate the animals. But if you eliminate the animals, plants and trees would probably die out. So yeah, breathing doesn't really count, because we arent the only species that does it (even plants "breathe.") But we are the only species that's currently known to wear clothing and then wash it in a special machine. That's why it's different.

Two of my favorite places to visit here - is Kennebunkport and Bar Harbour. Kennebunkport is just the most adorable town on earth - I swear. You step on those streets and visit the shops and it's just like stepping back in time. It's not very far from where we are really - only we are more in the forest area to the Northwest and that is along the ocean. But I love to go there.

@Writin_Reg Ohmgoshomggosh that sounds so adorable. I wanna live near the ocean. I love staring out in to the empty horizon - It's just the most beautiful thing, to understand how little we are in this life. I will definitely visit those links once I can get on my laptop.

@Briana2425 It's basically a pedal-powered washer vs using electricity for washing clothes. I found one of a stationary bike which I think could be a great way to incorporate fitness. Here are some examples I found of pedal washers:

@ayyitsmell I love all your ideas! They are soooo thoughtful! I love the idea of using their traits to influence how they do their laundry (finding money in their dirty laundry idea is awesome) I hope that if they do throw their clothes on the floor, they can still walk over it (kind of like a rug) so that they won't get stuck trying to walk around.

I'm really hoping they keep the wash basin and clothesline in the pack. I would also like an all-in-one unit that fits under the counter would be great for small houses. It wouldn't even require a new animation.

I know it's wishful thinking, but being able to reuse the grey water would be nice.

The wash basin combined with clothesline would be enough for me to buy the pack. Some way of washing without electricity would be a major selling point for me.

Don't know if someone has mentioned these as not read all posts but

    - Washable nappies for babies and toddlers.
    - Choice of soap powder. Bio, non bio, eco. Super eco home made (soap nuts!). Using the sun to remove stains instead of stain remover if they have such an option (stains would fit in well with weaning toddlers)
    - Dryer balls to shorten dryer times if dryer must be used.
-Eco Quickwash, low heat (If it's not dirty, wash at 30!)

Hanging clothes up to dry helps save power. My family has also used what is called "grey water" using biodegradable detergent to water our lawns, so that could be used for watering plants for Sims. Like if a sprinkler system was set up to access the grey water for plants, it would be nice.

I admit I still want the washer dryer to break, cause electrocution and be set on fire even if those aren't eco-friendly things. I want deviant aspects too to the feature.

There are no in-game systems or metrics that model wastewater run-off and/or ground pollution. What that means is that there is no method or reason make an appliance "eco-friendly". Maybe you could just have a graphic rise from machine that says "HE" with a rainbow or something.

This really isn't an eco pack anymore. Just call it laundry stuff.

Agree. Forget the eco stuff and just leave it as laundry for those that want to play house. Off the grid and eco play went out the window as soon as laundry won the vote.

That being said does not change the pack when the direction and theme was made basically law by Graham - it is his department and his pack so I have to seriously wonder how we will get any other eco friendly anything when this is considered the ECO friendly pack - irregardless of how any of us feel. This established what this pack is - like it or not -

    http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/915788/so-what-happens-to-those-themes-that-didnt-win/p1

In Grahams own exact words in the bottom of this post on the theme vote:

"Even though this Stuff Pack we're building together is now locked into the eco living theme, we always value your feedback regarding the things that you want to see in The Sims!"

They will not make two packs on the same theme even if we prove laundry made this pack no longer eco friendly. He makes the rules.

But truthfully how they can even consider an eco - pack without solar power and water saving principle I cannot even fathom.

That's up to the devs if they want to separate laundry from the eco friendly if they do seperate them great if they don't well *shrugs shoulders* I really don't know what else to say but that it's up to the devs.

Real, usable clothes line.... Unlike Sims 3 where it was just a decor, I would love to actually USE the clothes line.

I know this doesn't fall into Eco Living (really, Laundry room does how?) but having different styles of washer and dryers and clothes line. I loved the little washer and dryers that fit under cabinets at the houses we looked at in Germany. But I really like that combined Washer/Dryer one unit. Not the dryer on top of the washer or vise versa, but when my husband was stationed in Korea, he only had one unit. It looked like a washer but it also acted as a dryer. No needing to remove the laundry until everything was clean and dry.

For clothes lines... Have the standard two polls and tree looking styles, but also have the pulley for apartments. I would also love to see retractable clothes lines. Ones I could place on the side of the house and then let it extend out to a post or something, then it be retracted when done.

Also need clothes pin bags! need somewhere to put all those clothes pins. My grandma had a very cute one, and the memories of helping her hang clothes and holding that bag are some of my fondest.

Seems that way. It's right there right out of Grahams post.
I have to seriously question why the solar panels etc was even a choice - that should have been an actual expected thing if it is eco friendly. So I am totally astonished that any of that was in a vote. I seriously have to wonder how this is eco friendly - with or without laundry with no energy and water ideas in the overall main idea of Eco friendly.

Unless we can convince Graham that the least this pack has to have is the energy and water saver system then he is not got any reason to call this eco friendly and there fore freeing and unlocking that theme from this pack so we might have a chance to get an actual eco friendly pack.

It is not real clear on the canning and other things that went up against the laundry - as some said those could represent farming or seasons or what ever - just the things to do with true eco -friendly necessity like solar panels, wind turbines, water systems - is what I am talking about as those are only listed under Eco friendly energy.

I agree with you 100%. Let this be a laundry pack, but free up the theme as laundry is not Eco living anyway, even the people that wanted laundry agree that laundry never fit in the theme.

JUst goggle -" all in one washer/dryers." They've been around for quite a while. They are not really all that new. Definitely save space anyway, but tend to run expensive. Seems to have a lot of complaints about dampness though.
