Hi,
I know I keep running out of ideas for Street names and thought it would be fun to have a list to help.
I get tired of using the same Street name or ending them as Lane all the time to make it different.
So, if you need an idea, have an idea of names to share... just want to make fun of my list- Join the fun!

INTERESTING LONDON STREET NAMES -by Remmo
Perhaps a real life section of names that make you smile? Near me there's...
Effingham Road
Sims Walk
Ha-Ha Lane.
Deeper into London there's:
Recovery Street
Man In Moon Passage
Lamb's Conduit Street
And you wouldn't believe just how many very rude sounding ones there are in London that I just can't bring myself to type! Some funny as well. My favourites are in Gloucestershire:
Upper and Lower Piddle
Wire Bottom
.................
dont recall seeing [on this thread] rise and hill as typical endings.
eg - Long Hill is a road in our area
In some place they use native/indigenous words for street and town names.
eg North America : eg Squamish, Niagra, ...etc
Australian : Joondalup, Kakadu, Burrendah
My favorite names for streets are:
Ramblings (that's the name of the world i am building)
Coffee (takes a sip lol)
Stopping way
Debug Ally
Fallow Corners 8)
:-)
Out here in the wild west of Las Vegas, I live in a development called Copperhead. I guess they fashioned it after the old west as some of the streets have names like:
Smoking Gun Court
Bronco Billy Way
Wagon Wheel Cir
Copperkeg
Defiance
When we were picking out the house and where it was to be placed, I told my husband there was no way I was living on Bronco Billy Court.
8)
I love this thread
It's great to see all the ideas!
I decided to do desert names for Rattlesnake Ridge.

You could also do fish species - I've seen that in some towns built up because of proximity to a lake - Bass Avenue, Waleye Way, Guppy Street.
If you have a tropical paradise, look up what birds and reptiles might be there. Sea Turtle Grange would be a cool one
Have something up in the mountains - mountain range names. There's tons of those. Something that is a city - then why not chose city names.
Boston Boulevard
New York Strip
Las Vegas Parkway
San Diego Drive
Rocks would be an interesting thing to name streets after -
Gold Dust Circle
Granite Ridge Road
Feldespar Terrace
Those are what I can come up with right now
God Bless,

Lamb's Conduit Street
And you wouldn't believe just how many very rude sounding ones there are in London that I just can't bring myself to type!
Sometimes place names can be funny as well, some of my favourites are in Gloucestershire:
Upper and Lower Piddle
Wire Bottom
We also have Speedway Blvd. (It was the old trail between Tucson and Fort Lowell. On Saturday nights, the soldiers at the fort would race each other to town on horseback. The locals would line the road and place bets. Thus the name.);)

A cool way of naming streets, or towns, or anything in your world is by creating a 'lexical field bank' and giving them a universal theme. Colours (Saffron, Alabaster, Carmine, Viridian etc.), musical (Harmony, Rhapsody, Symphony, Melody etc.), death (Grave, Ashes, Bones, Blood etc.), whatever you feel like really~ Bimble's got Japanese animals going nicely xD
I can't think of any strange road names here, only strange town names Remmo's really did make me laugh though!
Heaven Street
Hell Street
Witts End Road
Haveteur Way

Outside of London:
Princes Street (Edinburg)

The Triangle (Bournemouth, its not a 'sqaure' but a Triangle)
Deansgate (Manchester)
Canel Street (Manchester, The 'Gay Villege')
I dont know where the name comes from but Manchester has a train station called Manchester Piccadilly.
In Dorset there is a villege called ********** where the signs kept getting stolen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/**********
There also happens to be a Cockermouth, a town in Cumbria http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockermouth

In dreams - I LIVE!
In REALITY, I simply exist.....
Sixth pleasant banyan gnome plantation passage IS THUS BORN!
...I'm a little hyper today.
Rflong there is an area in California in the Los Angelos area where my Aunt used to live where the housing areas are little pockets of similar name - like for instance my aunt used to live in what is known as Birdland district because all the roads have names of birds - there was a Tree district, a flower district, and I don't recall what else, but I always thought it was funny that the Kookiest of my Aunts lived in Birdland on Cuckoo Circle. She now lives back in Sparta, Georgia but I had a lot of laughs of my Kookie Aunt (think Cindy Lauper and you can picture my Aunt Dottie) living appropiately on Cuckoo Circle.

And I always wished for an Aunt with an interesting personality. Mine were not nearly so fun or interesting- shh, don't tell them though.

Alphabetically named streets may be named after local landmarks. For example, the streets in Anchorage, AK are named: Arctic, Barrow, Cordova, Denali, Eagle, Fairbanks, Gamble and so on in one direction and A, B, C, D, E in another.
Cities which were laid out during the American Civil War typically have streets named after the leaders of that conflict: Lincoln, Grant, Sherman, Simpson, etc.
Many town have their "Indian Reservation" where streets are named after various tribes: Arapahoe, Sioux, Commanche, Cherokee, Ute, Pawnee, Apache, etc.
Our town has a section where streets have women's names: Nancy, Dianna, Carol, Vickie, Karen
In some places they are named after famous locals, sometimes after presidents, sometimes after trees (Oak, Birch, Pine, Spruce, Aspen, Larch etc.), birds, animals and other plants.
Typically, streets will run in one direction, and avenues in another.
This is a great thread idea Rflong, I'm always at a loss for street names. It's probably the thing that takes the most work, going back and forth making sure the lots and houses are properly addressed and that street names aren't repeated in the wrong sections of town
