Not sure where to submit this comment/complaint but apparently I recently had an update because I've noticed most of my sim interactions with each other now are negative. I've been playing for way too long (since sims 1) and just wanted to share this is very irritating and is making the game very unappealing. I hope there may be a fix for this sometime in the future?

@Kyyv welcome to the forum. 🙂

A fix for the negative behaviors is coming in early December.

I checked something out on Twitter today an found something that I have heard of in the past. I've never been one to separate or 'play-through' a pack before. What does that even mean? I use things and interactions as they come. I don't tell myself, okay today you're only playing interactions or with objects from thus or so pack. Now, I can see playing -through Strangerville or Batuu, but not just any ol pack, as in take your pick, which is almost what was implied by the post I read. Am I missing something here? Some tidbit, or am I the oddball? Is there an entire, different way to play this game?

I don’t play that way either. When I get a new pack, I just incorporate any elements that fit into my current game. As a result, it will be years before I run out of things to do in TS4.

What I have come to realize is, that I don't have a ready grasp of just what came with what pack. I am more aware of what's in Parenthood, however. So many seem to be able to say that outfit/hair came from … Not me. But, at least I haven't run out of things to do, like you said. :)

In TS3 there's a challenge called the LEPacy challenge. It's very similar to what you're describing. The concept I'm sure has been around for a while.

    Simpishly - What's a LEPacy?
A Sims 3 LEPacy is a legacy-style challenge focusing heavily on the content and features of each expansion pack. It’s so easy to fall into a rut while playing and miss out on what each individual EP has to offer. The LEPacy dares you to explore all the things you’ve ignored!

The primary goal of each generation is to fulfill a Lifetime Wish you haven’t done before–and, of course, to find a way to carry on the family name to the next generation.

The number of generations you’re aiming for is, ideally, the base game + the number of expansion packs you own. So, if you own all the EPs, you’re looking at 10 - 12 generations.

    via https://simpishly.tumblr.com/post/97854204836/a-sims-3-lepacy-is-a-legacy-style-challenge

You can see how easy it is to translate that for any of the sims games (1, 2, 3, 4). We can disable packs in TS4 using commands. TS3 patch 1.69 allows the player to disable packs. There's a mod for those on patch 1.67 to disable packs using a third party tool. If you have the disk collection you could install packs as you start the next generation.

I got pretty far with this challenge in TS3. (11 generations if I remember correctly) I blogged about it on tumblr. It's not about limiting yourself on the content you paid for. The whole point to explore more of the game doing things you might not know about it, forgotten about, or just avoided in the past. For me I found I appreciated certain things a lot more when I had to progress to unlock the next pack. TS3 base game is actually pretty fun by its self. I would have never gone back without packs to experience just the base game if it wasn't for the challenge.

Another reason someone might take on this type of challenge is let's say they are new to the game. Maybe they bought a bunch of packs on sale. They are overwhelmed by all the things to do. This would be a good way to slowly explore the game and all of the packs.

I think as well playing a pack doesn’t just mean doing everything in the pack or only touch the pack.

From what I’ve seen around the forums I would think you are playing get famous. Not to say you don’t touch anything else, but yours is the most get famous centric game I believe anyone posts here.

You play the celebrity sim on a level most people do not. Even if he uses some non pack clothes or does some non pack things, it gives the ‘let’s play get famous’ vibe 😁

I don't know how many other Mac gamers there are on here, but I finally upgraded to the new Ventura OS and so far the game seems to like it. As old as the game is I worry every time a new OS comes out. The only thing negative I noticed was if I spin the camera around really quick it will lag more than it used it. It only lasts a second or two until the graphics card catches up. It does seem to load a bit faster than with Monterrey so that's good, not that the load times were horrendous. All of our computers and games are slightly different, but if you've been holding off waiting to hear what others think, I can say I like it as far as how it handles TS4 on my machine.

Wow, thank you. In all actuality, I use any number of features from other packs. I just happen to really enjoy my Sim and his 'infamous' antics. ;)

I need to amend my earlier comment. There is a big flaw with TS4 and Ventura. It simply will not shut down and go back to desktop without using the force quit option. I worked on a chapter of my story, clicked save and exit, then went and had lunch and did a couple of quick chores. I was gone 30 minutes and when I came back it was still sitting there with the spinning wheel. I did the force quit and was kicking myself for not saving before ever clicking exit. My lucky day, even though it had not gone back to the desktop and my using force quit it had saved my progress. I tried again this time going with save and exit to main menu first. That part worked like a charm but exiting to the desktop still required force quit. My advice is stick with Monterrey if you haven't switched and if you don't want to do a force quit from the main menu every time to get all the way out of the game. If you don't mind that then by all means switch to Ventura, just be sure to save and exit to main menu first just to be safe. Aside from that my game seems to run a bit smoother with Ventura.

Oof thanks for the tip @DaniRose2143 . Since I'm a late adopter, I hadn't yet got around to noticing that a new OS existed, so thank you for the heads up :)

Working on the VIII Landgraab apartment and I can't decide if I hate it or not. I also don't want to start over.

I have no idea of what look you're going for but I like what you have so far. I really like how you tucked the staircase behind the wall. Nice touch.

@SimplyJen I absolutely love it! That's a tricky one for me. I think it's difficult because of those odd angled walls in the kitchen. I always start builds in the kitchen and that one puts me in a mood right away.🤣 I'll second @GalacticGal's comment about how you placed the stairs. I do something similar but mine are usually rotated to the left, so that the bottom step is 90 degrees to the front door. I love how your placement gives you a hallway, and there are lots of cute ways to decorate hallways.

@GalacticGal I don't know what look I'm going for. lol It all started with the red rug. Then I liked how the couch had red pillows but then that orange/peach color took over instead. The stairs trick is a page from other people more creative than I am. Now if only we could get some spiral staircases in the game.
@DaniRose2143 Thank you  Building apartments can be a fun challenge but after a while it's no so fun. I love building and decorating kitchens. (This kitchen is not my best work) Can't stand bedrooms. Kids are fine but every other bedroom turns out so cookie-cutter boring. Which room is your favorite when you're building/decorating?

I think I need to start trying out L-shaped or otherwise shaped stairs - mine still go straight from one floor to the next. Haven't played with platforms at all either. Studies and living rooms are probably my favorite rooms since they get the most use in my houses...but I do enjoy bedrooms, though mine are slightly generic/cookie-cutter due to having multiple generations go through the same house.

I honestly haven't done much with building, still making giant box houses - I just do more outside than I used to. Still playing by Sims 2 rules in Sims 4 lmao, even when not needed. Still want to choose my lot sizes, every lot I use would be the largest lol - I still like having room, it fills up quickly!

@SimplyJen Kitchens are by far my favorite. Almost every renovation or redecorating job begins there. The odd shape of that particular kitchen makes it easily my least favorite. Not long ago I started to do a renovation on that apartment and I just bulldozed the whole thing to get rid of those annoying angled walls. The only problem was without the footprint to work from I struggled and just gave up. I’m much better at renovating and redecorating than I am at building from scratch. Like those stairs. I can take a lot I downloaded that used the original placement for them and turn it into a variation of what you and I do with them easily. Start with a blank canvas and I have no idea what to do next.😁

@WildIrishBanshee Totally agree studies and living rooms are fun to decorate. I highly recommend teaching yourself how to build more and branch out from what you normally do. I started this long project to makeover every sim/lot for every world. I have learned so much just by renovating EA lots and watching build videos too of course. I look forward to the mornings when I have time to drink coffee, listen to a podcast, and build.

@DaniRose2143 This apartment is a pain compared to the others for sure. EA really did us dirty not letting the players have full control over apartments. It is tough starting from scratch. Making a small entrance/hallway for the front door is a great way to hide some of these ugly apartment doors. It's been really helpful to look at other renovations to get inspired for floorplans.

@SimplyJen Near the top of all my wish lists for TS4 is the ability to change doors and windows in apartments without mods. I couldn’t agree more, a lot of those apartment doors are ugly. I need something to use as reference otherwise all I end up doing is making a series of cookie cutter looking perfectly square rooms.🙂

    Hello everyone. :)

    I have a question...

Can we make ovens and stoves fireproof? Because my sim keep starting fires when she cooks and she is maxed in cooking. It's not all the time, but it's enough to be annoying. And she is the only one who cooks in the house, so I always have her make at least 2 meals so the household can eat the leftovers for a few days. So is there a way to fireproof the stove/ovens? I did Google it, but maybe I'm missing something.
PLEASE FIX TEENS IN TS4! I NEED YOUNGER TEENS NOT YA TEENS! (^_^)Please add Music Bands with lead singers! Please add vehicles and garages! Vehicles have always been part of The Sims.

There is an ugrade available, I think, that either reduces fires or makes it fireproof.

Hi @WildIrishBanshee . Thank you for replying.

I don't see the option. My sim just maxed their handy skill and I still don't see the option. I do see heat sensor, but I thought that was to make the meals higher quality?

Have you tried looking in the Big Box supply stores such as Home Depot? I have found magazines in the past, one called Designer that showcases houses by top notch Architects and also includes the floor plans. That's where I got the Flanigan lot Erik now lives in, although Erik calls it BagEnd. That one was a hard build, as I kept having to redo the dining room to get the angles just right. But, it's by far my favorite of all the new ones I've built. I did take liberty with the plan, to make it more Sim-friendly. And I added platforms that weren't in the original plans, which is why I felt secure in posting it to the Gallery. Best of luck, hope you can find one of these types of magazines. We learn by doing, and once you get a feel for other shapes, off you'll go on your own imagination!

I have thought about, and used, something similar. A few months back I did a reno on the BFF's house. I used a floor plan I found on Google Images. I haven't gone back to Google for floor plans because I'm not entirely sure if the ones I'm looking at are copyrighted and if that applies to recreating them in a video game. Logically you would think it's ok if you make note that it wasn't yours and where you found it. I mean it's not like we're making money off of it. Sadly in the US, law and logic don't always go hand in hand so I backed off of using Google to find floor plans.

@Goodywood, the fireplaces you can upgrade to fireproof, but the stoves have no upgrade to prevent fires. You have to make sure there is a smoke alarm around the stove and make sure and put the fire box somewhere in the kitchen, or I put mine outside the kitchen windows. When there is a fire, the sprinkler system will start and can save from being roasted, or destroying the kitchen. :)
In my house, dog hair sticks to everything but the dog.
