Scenarios are goal-based stories within the game where a player’s choice impacts the outcome. There are many different outcomes to Scenarios and many different ways to achieve those outcomes. That’s right, there’s more than one way to complete a Scenario, just as in real life! You never know how the story will go. How you get there is up to you!
Two Scenarios in the next patch update
On the day that Scenarios launch, you’ll be able to play two Scenarios: Making Money and Finding Love after a Break up. This first batch of Scenarios have a challenge aspect to them and are called ‘Challenge Scenarios’.
For example, Making Money places your Sim in a situation where they have zero simoleons in their bank account. To complete the Scenario you’ll have to work your way to one million simoleons. How you get there is really up to you! You could choose the noble route and work your way through hard work and dedication or you can get creative and get to a million simoleons in other ways… 😉
How to access and play
Players that download the patch on November 2nd will have access to the brand new Scenarios feature. You’ll be able to access currently available Scenarios via the Main Menu following these easy steps:
Click on the ‘New Scenario’ button on the Main Menu
Choose the Scenario you’d like to try out
Once you’ve selected your Scenario, choose whether you’d like to start a new save, or use an existing save. Please note: In the first version of Scenarios, a Scenario can only be started in a new household. We’re working on bringing existing households into Scenarios for a future update!
Once you’re in CAS, create your household making sure to complete any requirements
Next up, choose your world and lot. Remember, if you’re playing ‘Making Money’ that your household funds will be set to 0 once beginning. So, you may be in for quite the challenge if you choose to start with a bulldozed or unfurnished lot.
Enter live mode, and enjoy!
More Scenarios to come
The party is just starting! There will be more Scenarios with different themes and different styles moving forward. Over time, you’ll notice new Scenarios appearing in the Main Menu. Some Scenarios will be available for a long time while others will be available for a limited time. So make sure to stay connected!
Scenarios FAQ
Where did you get your inspiration from for Scenarios?
We’ve been interested in creating new ways for Simmers to play, and the Scenarios feature was born from this. For our first batch, we looked to our vast community to see how you all have been inspiring others, so we’ve leaned into the concept of challenges as inspiration for this feature.
Can I use an existing household to play Scenarios?
For the first version of the feature you’ll only be able to add Scenarios to a new household in either a new or existing save. We’re working on expanding this out to existing households in the future, stay tuned for more updates.
Will there be more Scenarios in the future?
Yes! More Scenarios, new variations to existing Scenarios as well as new features will be added over time.
How many possible outcomes are there in one Scenario?
There will be several ways that a Scenario can end. We’ve listed a couple of possible outcomes in the description for each Scenario, but there are some that aren’t listed, too.
Can I continue playing with the save file of the Scenario afterwards?
Yes! You’ll be able to continue playing with the save file and the household that you’ve worked on completing the Scenario with.
If you choose a lot without a house will your sim still have 0 Simoleons?
Yes! In Making Money, you’ll be able to start a lot without a house if you’d like. This would be one way to create a more difficult Scenario if you’d like.
Are the challenges timed?
We do keep track of Sim time as you’re playing, so you’ll get to see how much Sim time has elapsed from start to your outcome, however there is no time limit once you’ve started the Scenario. There will be some Scenarios that are only available for a limited time. As long as you’ve started the Scenario before the limited time period has ended, you’ll be able to play the Scenario through to completion.
"Some Scenarios will be available for a long time while others will be available for a limited time. So make sure to stay connected!"
Uh oh here comes the FOMO 🙄 Literally adding mobile style challenges to keep players engaged without actually adding deep gameplay just timed goals. I'm sure we'll get timed drop rewards with this as well with the new SDX. This is the kind of stuff that makes me stop playing mobile games, so I can't wait to see it implemented in the sims 🙄🙄

Now this I agree with. Timed goals actually turns me away. I love the idea that I can play with something at my own leisure. Making it timed doesn't make we want to play more it makes me annoyed lol then usually I end up ignoring it all together because I don't like feeling forced. Or playing with something that will later dissappear into thin air. Hate that about mobile games...
It would actually be perfect for one of my households because they are about to breakup with a child together. But right now I'm probably not gonna start a new household so I'll probably wait and see how people find the scenarios.

Let's take a moment to acknowledge that this feature is basically incomplete and they are advertising it that way too. "Only two at launch but more coming over time!" If they launched scenarios with at least a dozen or so situations then that would be nice, but no, they release it as an incomplete feature on purpose so they can continue pouring resources into it long after it released. Why can't they put this kind of dedication to a feature that already exists and desperately needs it more, like why not new whims over time? Or new aspirations over time?

My question is will there really be some unique and interesting variations in how Scenarios play out and end or is it fully player driven? And are the endings something impactful and interesting to explore or is it a variation of on-screen text (like when you go into a rabbit hole to find a secret lot) and nothing else? Or not even text, it's just a checkmark on the Scenario UI and you get satisfaction points?
If it's the former, I will gladly say I was wrong to judge Scenarios so quickly. Kinda thinkin' I ain't, though.

So what makes scenarios unique is that I can control my sims' lives and my game will not always end up the same? Oh, how I wish I could've played with so much freedom for the last 7 years!

Yeah that's what I'm confused abt. I thought they would talk about it in the blog lol. Idk maybe they are just leaving it up to us to find out? It's not like a pack that they have to sell so I guess they don't have to explain everything and might want to leave it as a surprise.
I was hoping to find out more about the other scenario but ig I have to wait till the patch drops
Recaps are always the inside Maxis, if I have understood right, just written, so that is why they did not talked about the 2nd one?
(I may be wrong, would not be the first time, haha )
My love, my love, my fearless love, I will not say goodbye..
Sea may rise, sky may fall, My love will never die..
My heart, my heart, My drowning heart, Oh all the tears I've cried
Oh I may weep forevermore, My love will never die..

No that wasn't the recap. They mostly talked about stuff that was already mentioned in the livestream but they also answered some faqs which were probably asked after the stream on Twitter or in the twitch chat.
The recap talked about everything in the 411 including the hot topics like the mobility petition and the sims delivery express.
I somehow always assumed these recaps were only text version of live stream's 411

The only thing I was intrigued by in the blog is the fact that they mentioned more features coming for Scenarios - hopefully that means we'll able to customize them and make our own rules etc. in the future. That would definitely make it a useful addition. I just hope they add some more useful rewards. Either revamp the way you can use satisfaction points or add some other rewards like traits or such. There many different things they could add. If there was a more useful and interesting reason to use satisfaction points, then this would a very nice feature. Maybe add more traits, the possibility of adding more trait slots in cas with a certain amount of point, or other perks. So much they could do with this.
Allons-y!

Yes I really wish there was a more "personal" use for satisfaction points. Idk how to explain but the points should be more like a personal thing for each sim instead of just used to buy potions.
I kept calling them aspiration points so I said they should be named lifetime points but satisfaction points sounds good. It just doesn't make sense because it sounds like your sim gets points for how satisfied they are with their life. And with that being the case, if a sim has a lot of points and therefore is very satisfied there should be some sort of reaction or something that doesn't feel cheaty like the rewards store and they should be able to lose satisfaction points and there should be something negative about them having a low amount. Idk there should be more of an incentive to try and get satisfaction points.
I think that it has a lot of potential. Maybe the Sims 4 Team will be able to create a Headmaster scenario like in the Sims 2. You will have to schmooze the Headmaster, serve the Headmaster excellent food, and give the Headmaster tour; and if the Headmaster thinks your household is good enough, your kids can all get into Private School.
Though, the Sims 2 also had the wants and fears system, whereas the Sims 4 does not. So, even with a Headmaster scenario, there really is no motivation to send the kids to private school.
I don't still understand why the developers decided to add this feature now. They might think it would be more friendly for players to decrease the opportunity to use cheat commands to enjoy their own challenges.
Anyway, the new feature is coming the next week, so I try to (forcibly) take it positively:
I am OK if I can disable the feature on my own will.
I am OK if the feature will not generate new issues.
I am OK if the feature will not adversely affect on the existing features.
I am sorry for that I say same things repeatedly, but I cannot help insisting on the last two points.

this. I've dropped so many games because of time exclusivity nonsense ruining them and I don't want sims to do that too
so much for " we are inclusive" and " we welcome people from all walks of life" I guess p_p
