@LegacySims2017 You'll be glad you did. It's a lot of fun to savor Sim 66 post by post, in real time.
@Kellogg_J_Kellogg I unabashedly adore Summer Holiday. Any version of Summer that allows her to "shine her little rays of happiness into her friends' lives" warms my heart, too. Her Swinging Sixties incarnation is delightfully true to the original. I'm really glad to see a post that features her so prominently.
What a party. And I like Liberty's fancy hairstyle compared to her ponytails look. If she hooks up with Gary, Summer could make a move on Travis. But now Julia might be taking a liking into Travis or vice versa. There's always going to be that third wheel.
Chapter 66
Aww, and then this chapter. Travis' eyes are finally opened. Now, what's he going to do about it.
Chapter 67
Yay for Llama Man and Llama Girl. I like your catch phrase/song for it.
Of all the festivals GeekCon poses the most problems for a period setting. I have to avoid showing any computers, especially the motion gaming rig although I did find out that the very first video game was made in 1962 but the computer itself was huge. So I made it about a show clearly based on Batman, which debuted in 1966, and only did screen grabs that featured people in costume...but not obviously Star Wars.
As an aside, Star Trek debuts in September 1966./spoiler]
I think I would have reacted the same as Jeremy if I went with others to a tree like that. I most likely would have been freaked out than curious tho when they found something.
Chapter 69
I like how Bella was sort of warning Malcolm about Suzy, but he already who in his own way. Suzy needs another teen to go in undercover for her. Get someone to go on the inside to help her.
Chapter 70
Therapist for Action, enter stage right. My uncle who was in Vietnam had to see a therapist when he got out. He was also put on medication.
Chapter 71
That Aunt Elle cracks me up. But she does need help. She needs to be looked after and if that happens, that'll really make her flip. Sometimes it needs to happen, tho. Even if it's not popular and no one really likes it.
Jeremy, as always, a voice of reason. Every group has one, or should have one.
That is a great idea to get a teenager involved in the story. I've considered this for some time; who's a pretty big social demographic I'm not writing about in this story? Teenagers. Expect some to move from the fringes of the story to centre stage. Also notice how Bella's instinct is to protect and side with the other premade grandees of the world, even though she has no particular deep affection for the Landgraabs. They, the Goths, the Fengs and the Villareals are the ancien regime, where the money and the power lie. They close ranks when threatened. Alan Cuffe is an upstart, new money, someone who wants to gatecrash this little group and therefore he's not trusted or accepted. His social liberalism...actually it's beyond liberalism and into something libertine...is offputting to them as well.
Yep, I will try to cover PTSD...although it wasn't called that back in the 60s. "Battle fatigue" was the term. I won't reveal what happens to Action's mental state in the more recent chapters but that might be something I will cover soon. He'll probably seek out a fellow veteran before going to a psychiatrist.
Aunt Elle has what we would call today Bi-Polar disorder but back then would be called manic depression. This was a gameplay created sub-plot where that Sim showed up at Julia's house, started to make herself at home and just would be nasty with everyone who was there. Who was she? She couldn't be a random stranger for it to make sense so I made her Julia's aunt. And as an experiment I used the genetics in CAS to create Elle and Julia's parents and have Elle be Julia's mum's sister. But it was another opportunity to show a kinder side to Julia like the chapter where she was kind to the children and teenagers who were in trouble.
Furthermore, on the Sims & Modelling board in the Creative Corner I've started a thread called "The Fashions Of Sim 66" where I will be showcasing some of the outfits worn by the various characters and Townies. You can find it here:
OK, this follows hot on the heels of the previous chapter and I'm doing something a bit different this time as I write from a first person perspective. This isn't the style from now on, it's just specific to one character. Meet Jamie McGregor; a 17 year old guy who's just moved house and has one thing on his mind...and it isn't his English homework! Chapter 130: One Track Mind.
Space work is never done. And neither is Liberty's. She's lucky she was able to go home and get some sleep. Well, at least try to.
Chapter 73
I liked Barbara's new outfit. I'm sure Jeremy will too once he gets to see it. And now I'm curious what Barbara wants to do as a career woman!
Chapter 74
I do like Sylvan Glade. Can't wait for Suzy to show her friends. And she outta know that Neil's approach at the end is partially cause he's got that martini to thank.
Chapter 75
Oooo....I like this suspense with Leann! Can't wait to read more about her.
Nice to hear your thoughts again; I figure you've been very busy of late (I want to know what's going to happen to Reece and Elizabeth next!)
Chapter 72 is where I wanted to put a real historical event into the story and Liberty's astronaut career provided the opportunity to include Gemini 8, the events of which are depicted in the movie "First Man".
I think with Barbara's new outfit I'd recently downloaded that cc and I had to use it. At the moment I'm swapping out a lot of base game clothing on all the sims which is nearly Sixties for more authentic looking cc. The orange outfit is a case in point although it's now her second everyday choice.
The more time Neil spends with Suzy, the braver he gets.
Oh that's merely the beginning of the Leanne McGregor saga!
Alan Cuffe takes on the world...lol! Now I wonder if Julia is going to have a talk with Suzy about her affiliation with Mr Cuffe, even if it's just to write articles.
Chapter 77
LOL ... I'm guessing Malcolm autonomously approached the two, so you had to work that in? Looking forward to seeing Travis and Summer move things along....as well as Liberty and Gavin...err...Gary (laughed at that too from Travis).
Chapter 78
Oooo...a clothing boutique. That will be fun to see Barbara manage. The cat thing at the end cracked me up. But, if they take in the cat (if it's there again), this will allow them to see if they can manage taking care of something and give ideas of them having you know....a baby....if they ever decide to get married.
Chapter 79
Yay, got to meet another of the Scooby Gang.
Chapter 80
A new co-worker for Action. Snarky one at that. A new character in the drama series is nice. It's not overwhelming with everything else going on. That looks like an Edna look-a-like talking to the lothario kitten.
Chapter 81
Poor Julia. Makes me wonder tho if her boss was seeing how she would react to authority taking over. Afterall, if she continues to get promoted, she'll have staff she's in charge of. Good to see she was able to have fun after hours.
Chapter 82
Travis and Summer sittin' in a tree...K-I-S-S-I-N-G.... He needs to have a date night with her!
Hello @Kellogg_J_Kellogg. Just wanted to pop in and see how it's going. Been out for awhile.
Just caught up to check. 120. I love Liberty, Summer, Travis and Gary something about them that's just fun.
poor Katherine! And after all that about him not going on without her.
From Action's point of view...
He needed her for some moral support when he was guessing what caused him to lose his memory but once Aurora revealed information about the Visitors he thought the situation was too dangerous for her. Action is one of the more volatile characters in the story and his thoughts change, and quite radically too, often.
@Kellogg_J_Kellogg Well, you have another fan, ME! I love it so far, I have to catch up but I love the interactions with all the townies and That cool 60s vibe. You're an amazing storyteller.
OK, I'm sticking with the out of sequence rotation in order to follow the sub-plot idea and today it's Suzy Kent being Miss Multi-Tasking by planning a wedding and returning to the Sylvan Glade with a special guest to uncover more mysteries. Chapter 132: Partners In Detection.
Biggest clue was that big ol' pie chart sitting out. Barbara is a pretty decent businesswoman herself. Now she'll have the help of her bae.
Chapter 84
Aww, Suzy and Neil are becoming bed buddies now.
Chapter 85
Bow chicka wow wow to Action and Katharine.
Chapter 86
That Julia. Glad she got her promotion, though. And getting sick in a hospital....go figure. The promotion did her good, but she'll be back to her self again I'm thinking in due time.
Julia analyses the samples brought back from Sylvan Glade but also meets the new locum doctor at the hospital...can she ever get his name right? Chapter 133: Dr Bledsoe, I presume
(ps, they're using microfiche readers there...NOT computers! OK? We got that? Microfiche!)
