Why is the Sims 3 store still so expensive???

«1
I really want to buy some store items but everything is so extremely expensive and overpriced! It's been 6 years since they have supported TS3 and they never thought to atleast slash all the prices by half?

I'm pretty sure @KatyFernlily meant player made custom content and script modded objects, not pirated EA store content. Or let's just assume so.

Anyway, there is a very old principle of accounting that applies here as well as to the prices of the game itself and its EP/SPs. The correct price to charge for something is that which the customer is willing to pay. :)

There are still bargains to be had within the store by leveraging the now stuck at Oct 2016 sale list, the ever-rotating Deals of the Day, the Make Me An Offer function, and the cascading Complete Your Sets once you have a few objects of a set and would like the rest of it or are working on obtaining a set that is also a subset of another.

I like to work on "complete a set" If you buy enough of the small items, you can get pretty good discounts. There's also contests and games over on the gifting thread, you can participate in to win gifts.

This is what I've been doing for a while now, and I've "paid" a fraction of the total cost of what I've bought. If there are particular items or sets you have your eye on, you could list them in a thread in the store section and ask for help figuring out the cheapest way to get what you want. The regulars in the Daily Deal thread are also quite knowledgeable and happy to help someone get oriented.

I know right? maybe if all of us stopped buying for a while they will lower the prices, or maybe close the whole thing instead lol. I advice you to use the daily deals, I found them really helpful to save money.

It sucks, I've been wanting to buy the worlds but you need to spend actual money and not simpoints on these,

Yeah, that is too bad and almost all of them dont go on sale anyway. Which one were you hoping to get? maybe we can look for some player-made world that gives the same vibes.

@GraceyManor I have everything from the Store, except some of the early branded stuff, and it only takes up 11,1GB. So it should be easy for you to find ways to store your Store items (pun not intended).

For example you could buy a couple of 32GB USB-sticks, and you can also use the hard drive from your last laptop that recently died. Just buy a hard drive case, put the salvaged HDD in there and voila you got a new external hard drive all of a sudden without any extra cost. :)

That's why I've never, ever bought anything from the store. Complete rip off!

Probably as simple as literally no one minding the store.
I doubt anyone even looks at it anymore unless they get an alert that it's broken

I don't trust myself taking apart a laptop.I didn't even setup my desk top.
And don't want to pay a company to do it.lol

EA needs to remind everyone of their greediest scheme with the franchise.

Why should it go down in price? Sometimes things just end without getting cheaper. Just because it's old doesn't mean they have to give it away - is my view.

Greed? If people don't think it's worth it, they won't buy it. I don't buy TS4 even if it's free. Sometimes, prices even goes up when it's older.

Personally, I always thought the store was overpriced in some regard but quite reasonable in others. Packs & worlds have quite a lot of content from the price, and in the long run, it has been more than worth it to me, considering the many years of enjoyment that I've had from the items from the store.

I haven't bought everything myself, I've had wonderful and generous friends who have gifted me things, or joined contests or raffles, and I've paid it forward by gifting to others in return. I no longer do that and haven't for years because of greedy beggars and somewhat cliquish groups that fragmented a once lovely and lively gifting community.

I think compared to a pack like TS4 Cats & Dogs, or whichever pack it was that was mainly filled with decals, and floor tiles being passed off as "Pet Blankets" ( absolutely disgraceful ) the TS3 store is amazing. It is probably still priced as it is because it is still a useful commodity that is making dollars for EA.

You can always try the Daily Deals, Make Me An Offer page, or simply buy a few things at a time until you buy enough of a set for it to qualify for the "Complete Your Set".

I'm not going to engage much with this topic but the TS3 Store has by far the highest per-item cost of any mode of DLC purchasing in the franchise yet, and for every bad TS4 dog/cat bed (I'm mad too don't worry) there were Store items that were broken (categorized for the wrong ages, recolor channels broke, can't repair without route failing, and this is just stuff I actually remember) or in one case, the same item you got with an EP (the planter bowl is literally a palette swap of a Supernatural one) I can say that my favorite sims game was also greedy to the max as EA has been for over a decade.

I actually agree, I hope someone can quickly work on the store and slash all prices by half. I would literally buy everything!

Agree with the bolded! I love some of the store items so much and cant imagine my game without them but some of the individual items felt really expensive like the changing station, which i have, but it costs almost 600 simpoints and that feels like a lot.

I disagree. I'm betting many people still go and buy from the Store.

I've also found that I have to redownload all my store stuff many times because the game doesn't like me moving and saving TS3packs on other drives. :( It's becomes a pain. I really want all my stuff in an easy to download compilation.

I literally got all the Compilations for cheap without them having to slash prices. I bought the cheapest bits of sets, which were part of other sets which I got for nearly nothing to actually total a compilation. You don't have to pay half to get most of the store.

*Besides the Worlds. :( I wouldn't never had the worlds without so many Generous Simmers.
Also, I won a few Simpoint from competitions which I gifted to others in the Competitions. And EA messed up a few times with WA registrations and a lot of us got the 10$ registration again. iirc :cookie:

I agree. Still a whole lot of people playing and enjoying the Sims 3, myself included. I bought the base game for Sims 4 and hated it so I've stuck with what I like and that's 2 and 3. I have most of the store but I don't expect them to lower the prices or give stuff away because "it's an old game".

I happen to be lucky enough to own all of the purchasable items in the store (missing a lot of simpoint bonuses or limited offers) through a combination of buying myself, gifting from other simmers, free sim points videos (long time ago), and the complete my set feature.

One tiny pet peeve of mine of the store is that own both Lucky Palms world and the Lucky Simoleon Casino, but I can’t access the Lucky Palms Gold Edition and have to download separate files. Plus, the Make Me A Deal feature never will offer me a deal, just says something like... congratulations you got it all. lol

They way I see it, the store is overpriced (on most items) and EA is currently being greedy.

I say this because prices in the store didn't rise until after (2014) when the game had officially ended. Most of those items have been sitting there for years, untouched in either content or design. What has changed from then to now which would justify a hairstyle being sold for 100 simpoints in 2009-14 to now being sold for 129 simpoints? Nothing. On the sale side of things, how many previously 100 simpoint items which are currently reduced to 99 simpoints do you have to buy before an actual savings is seen?

Remember TS3 is an eleven year old PC game! Time is not on its side. Other iterations of it have already been phased out of existence.

Most likely the change in pricing has to do with the increase of 'new' or returning players to the game, which on the business side of things is 'more profitable' for them to sell popular (or desired) items at a higher price. After all, there is, still money to be made from the sale of merch, actually value for money be darned.

The bad part about this obvious last ditch cash grab is that technology is changing and pretty soon (if going by Microsoft's and Apple's changes to their current OS(es), having a PC which will be able to run the game may be a thing of the past in the not-too-distant future.

Now, unless EA/Maxis has plans to bring this game into a 64bit platform, and is using the increased cost of items to financially helps offset other costs, there is no justification for the system of pricing in the store other than 'last-call' greed. -Just my thoughts.

EA is making a 64 bit version of the sims 3 for mac as we know it (least it's what they say for now.) And windows has given no indication that they are stopping 34 bit apps. They are upgrading, but know people still play 34bit game. Apple has never been video game friendly and macs are more used for people to create things. Even now with newer window 10 computers, you can still play 32 bit games. So no, I don't think they'll stop it very soon. [/center]

    i love the sims 3

    i love store content

the sims 3 brings me joy

so to me paying for the store content is worth it

the store is obviously still profitable or they wouldn't keep it up

my main problem is i've almost run out of things to buy. just a couple of worlds left and completing a couple sets..
