I'm asking this on behalf of my rather harried grown daughter who hasn't had time to play her game, lately. When I told her of the anniversary patch about the stairs, her answer was "sweet." When I was at her apartment on Thursday, last, I asked her where her laptop was since she hadn't yet had a moment to download the aforementioned patch. She got it out and commenced with the Origin update, then found three patches awaiting her, which she proceeded to install. But, she couldn't find the stairs. In all fairness I did tell her she had to be in build mode to access them, and it's entirely possible she was looking, instead, for a set of stairs that were already L-shaped. But, just in case I'm completely wrong, is it too late for her to have access to the free anniversary patch and what need she do?
If this is in the wrong section I apologize.

Yes, and the gallery is already a bit of a mess.
Thank you. I will make sure she goes into buy mode the next time I have a chance. She has nine children, total, the youngest being our set of twins, just closing in on two months old.
Thank you, too.

If there's a chance she wasn't looking at build mode, that's probably it since it's not specific new stair items but a change to how existing ones work. Maybe direct her to watch the livestream (it's replayable on Twitch), that should help her figure out how to use the new stair modification
Simply place any set of stairs down in build mode, and you’ll notice a new widget that appears… it’s a box with two arrows attached to it. Grab onto that with your cursor and drag, and suddenly your stairs will be bent 90°! Keep dragging, and the stairs will bend 180°. Once you’ve bent your stairs, you’ll see another two widgets appear. A diagonal arrow above the newly-added landing will let you adjust the height of the landing within the staircase. A curved arrow at the base of the stairs will allow you to continue to rotate the direction of the stairs beneath the landing."
Whoa, I didn't know about the section I put in bold! Thanks for the tip!
This is my first attempt at creating bent stairs:
I can always show her. She just hasn't really had the time, poor thing. This is the daughter who introduced me to the Sims! Her youngest five range from not yet 5, almost 3, almost 2 and then the newborn twins. She's got her hands full.

The game will be there for her when she gets her well-deserved time off (and the shiny new stairs tools will too)
Thank you for your words of encouragement and for the compliment on my stairs. I do have to confess we were on the road (hubby and I) when the patch was dropped. Once into our hotel room for the night, I quickly downloaded it. The next day I tried to play with it and couldn't get it to work. When hubby got back from his short business meeting, he took a look at it. (He doesn't game and has never really even looked at the Sims games) but within five seconds, he had it figured out. Once he showed me, I built the stairs for this house. Once we got home, I built them again on my gaming rig for the same house, but I drew the walls in closer so the hallway looked right.
I would love it if we could expand that bottom landing to three wide, as that would look more like the actual staircase from the (now demolished) Historical home. Face/palm.

@darrenfroggy I do appreciate what you're saying and I can understand the routing issues. Oh, well, it was just a thought … But, I am entirely grateful for what they gave us and I shall explore it to my heart's content. Just went into an older build and changed out the staircase. Endless ideas are springing forth. Will I ever have time to actually play the game again? Who knows. LOL Thanks for your input.

Glad your daughter figured out the stairs, @GalacticGal , hope she gets time to have lots of time with them
(and now I'm off succumbing to the temptation that are the links in your signature. Live long and prosper, fellow Trekkie )
Hope you enjoy it! And thank you for your interest!

I wasn't 'into gaming' much, either. That's why my addiction to Sims2, which was so very swift and so complete, took everyone around me by surprise, including myself. She's the one who introduced me to the game. It appeals to the storyteller in me.

There are gamers in my family, just not simmers. I completely understand your addiction coming on fast and seemingly from left field. That kind of happened to me. I kind of always knew about the Sims, I don't know how I did but I did. However, I didn't come into the franchise until much later, about a year before Supernatural came out for TS3. Now, I'm an addict and no other game makes me as happy as this one.
I hear you.
