Is It Just Happening to Me, Or Has Origin Gone Berserk? UPDATE

GalacticGalGalacticGal Posts: 28,570 Member
I ask, because I was having problems with my favorite Sim becoming Hysterical and dying twice and even after rolling back to an earlier save he went Hysterical again. I changed out my saves file for a copy of the one in my back-up game folder. Things appeared okay, but then after getting a warning he was freezing to death (easily averted by bringing him back indoors), you got it. He went Hysterical again. This wasn't something I had experience in all of this time and I have played since the game was released. Something is wrong.

I made the decision to repair my game. That flubbed up and I've been fighting to play my game ever since. The page on Origin even went wonky. Yesterday, it flubbed up again. I then decided to download Origin anew. Thinking I'd made a good choice in doing that, as my game loaded. My packs didn't go through the queue, but I found them and in scrolling down, saw that all of them had been installed. Phew! I went into my game ever so briefly. But the end of the day had arrived. No time to play. Instead, I waited until today.

Happy, I got through with a few tasks and sat down to power up. What do I find? Origin has decided it must repair my game. AGAIN. Mind you, I did NOT right-click and select that option. It's doing it on its own. :open_mouth: It even had all of my packs in the queue, which were all installed again as of yesterday late afternoon/early evening. What in the world is going on? If this is the new and improved Origin, I want out. This is buggy and making my game inaccessible. Repeatedly!

I'm sitting here fit to be tied. In attempting to allow the game to do it's thing, City Living runs into an error and I need to complete it later. When is later? From now on, once this mess is cleared up, I'm going to go through my start menu to activate my game. This is a pain and so much MISERY. Why, EA, why? And you wonder why I'm not so inclined to recommend Origin to a friend.

After losing about an hour of possible game time, today, I decided to download Origin again. This time, City Living was all that needed to be resumed. Phew! I got into my game and at first made Erik immortal, then checked back with the MCCC help thread. They had the pathway to disabling emotional deaths. So, I have reversed the immortal stuff and disabled emotional deaths. Hated to do it, but perhaps the bug that is causing it to 'target' certain Sims in a game will be fixed and I can enable it again. After all, I'm one who misses the random deaths. Hate to be considered a hypocrite, but really, when the game kills the same Sim three times, no matter how many game saves you go back, or even switching to another copy of the save, you've got to do something. :open_mouth:

Your Origin problems might have been caused by the widespread internet outage this morning, so hopefully they won't be a regular thing. :)

Are you suggesting that it was the servers for Origin that went down? I experienced no Internet outage where I live.

A bunch of websites were down earlier because of a glitch with Cloudflare.

Either way, if it does this again the next time you open origin/restart your pc you might want to contact support. Mine did this after I got Island Living.

I don't know for certain that Origin's servers went down, but the outage affected a lot of sites (even the forums here were down for a bit). Fortunately it didn't last long. So it may have been that which was causing your issue. If you keep having problems, though, then definitely contact support. Origin can be so glitchy sometimes, outages or no outages...

I go through this nightmare every day. I need to delete cache files/folders and restart the computer several times to fix it. But it still goes back to not working or connecting to the internet right after I barely manage to download or repair without an error or a need to reconnect message. It's a terrible launcher and simply doesn't work on my PC. Thought I was the only one cause I haven't noticed many complaints.

I always delete the localthumbcache files before I play the game. Always. Up until the patch and Island Living was released, I haven't experienced this problem. I've got a gaming rig, too. I've got plenty of memory (RAM) and space. This is just weird and problematic.

Hm. Thank you. I may have been attempting to access the game at the same time Origin was having its hiccup. Technology, don't you just love it?

Well, mine didn't go down that I'm aware of. Unless the mess on the page that was Origin was the result of it. Other than that I had access. Curiouser and Curiouser.

Origin has been giving me issues the last couple of days. When I open the program, it stays blank and doesn’t go anywhere. I haven’t tested it today.

It hasn’t been an inconvenience for me, though, since I’ve just been opening TS4 through the shortcut on my desktop.

Good to know that it has something to do with an outage. Again, it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience, so I never looked into it or tried to fix it.

My Origin, when the page wasn't totally messed up, just kept 'repairing' my game. I have all pack except two, so you can imagine that takes a bit of time, even on a fast Internet. :open_mouth:

I think I will bypass the normal route today, just to be on the safe side. I don't have a shortcut on my desktop, but I run Windows. I can hit the start button and select Origin from there and get into the game. :)

The emotional deaths are a bit ridiculous. I had 2 sims get married and the bride was so hysterically happy she died right there on their wedding day. Very sad story. Was a wedding, now it's a funeral.

Way off topic, but have to share. I also recently had 7 people freeze to death at a charity event. SEVEN PEOPLE. I couldn't believe it was happening. So, yeah...

Anyway, glad you got it working. :)

Thank you @Arzekial. By the way I don't consider your addition about the 7 Sims that perished to be off-topic. This is a problem. I'm sorry I'm not alone, yet oddly comforted.

They said that Verizon was responsible for the one two weeks ago - not sure who caused this one but pretty sure it was another big company in order to mess up so many different other big servers etc.

But the big companies that have a lot of internet systems and users - when they do things to their stuff - like Verizon did two weeks ago - it interferes with the internet in general. Part of the problem being so connected now-a-days. Has nothing to do with Hackers - as the governments get involved when it messes with so many systems and quickly determined the "trouble maker". In Verizons case I guess it was just them going about their business with all their many systems - but it unfortunately messes with our business. Not much we can do about it but grin and bear it - I guess. Usually the governments tell them to clean up their act - but not much more anyone can do. I also believe it all depends on what each of us normal people just using the net are doing and where we are going whether or not we get interference every time one of these huge internet providers update. I have Spectrum - but I was still interferred with on some sites that Verizon was updating or what ever they were doing two weeks ago. I did not have any interferrence with this particular upset that many people had. I guess it depends on our own providers and how good a service we have. I have the top service spectrum provides for home/business use so it takes a lot for me to get interferrence -

No - you don't usually go down but you end up having weird issues with places like Origin and others that provide servers - much like you ran up against. I am sure some people might go down - like if they us wifi perhaps or may not properly link up with their servers - trouble usually shows in bad connections but your personal pc won't go down usually....

Thanks for weighing in on this. I have Comcast/Xfinity. I'm fairly certain hubby has it set for the highest speed, as he knows how impatient I can get. Before we got Internet, he came home from work one day to declare I wouldn't be able to tolerate dial-up, and made sure we got set up for high speed, when we did take the plunge. ;)

Yep - that should keep you from going down anyway - it just won't help if the server you are going to is being interferred with. I hear there is a lot of interferrence with companies messing with 5G - so much so some companies have been asking the governments to to stop 5G but I doubt they will. To be honest I have not followed the arguments etc too closely lately - real life getting in the way. LOL.

ETA - I remember dial up days - lol. Looking back that was a nightmare. When they offered satellite finally believe me - I went right to that way back then. Dial up was horrible.

Oh - I know - but it still causes a lot of ridiculous arguments out there.

I was happy to hear there was a move to 5 G - when it was first being discussed - but some companies are rabid about it. Sort of comical to read some of the arguments - I used to keep up with all that - but real life has kept me out of the loop lately -
