I like aspirations and I believe they add a lot to the game. I do have a Sim who has completed their art aspiration and really don't want to move on. Any ideas on how to handle this.

It doesn't effect your sim negatively if you switch to another one. You keep the reward. You can actually work on more than one aspiration at a time and switch back and forth between aspirations without losing progress on others. For me it usually makes sense to stick with one's that fit my sim's personality or situation. Ex: creative sims I'll have do the creative ones. If a sim is going to have kids, work on the family ones.
But i want a bunch of them. I want as much as we had in Lifetime Wishes from Sims 3... I played all of them already, a thousand of times and it gets pretty boring after some time... Also, i liked that som Lifetime Wishes in Sims 3 were more simple, like have a collection of fish in bowls, or something like that. Would be cool if they added three types of Aspirations:
- Basic ones, like the Lifetime Wish i mentioned to collect a bunch of fishes in bowls.
- Regular ones, that work like the ones we already have in the game.
- Hard ones that need focus and effort to finish.
I like/don't mind aspirations. Sometimes I take advantage of the points.
I like the Aspirations, but some of them are way too hard and take up a lot of time to complete, which, compared to the easy ones, feel out of place. Also, I've recently been playing the Sims 3 after a very long hiatus and I think I prefer the Lifetime Aspirations as opposed to these. They helped make each Sim feel more unique and all of them took a lot of time to complete.
Aspirations are great the rewards that come with them not so much I remember during Sims 2 the rewards were great and I had to have them not so much now.
Sims 4 went from "You Rule" to "One of the stories we want you to tell"
I like aspirations as goals to work towards, it always makes me happy when a sim completes a section, however they ted to get old very fast.
I wish we had more, I have downloaded one modded aspiration that is whim focused and just requires you to complete a number of sims whims- I tend to use this when none of the others fit a sim.
Ultimately, I like them a lot, enjoy them, but wish we had more.
Also, i'm not actually sure if this is true or not, but I've been under the belief that sims live longer as elders if they've completed an aspiration during their lifetime. If this is true, then it's a huge boost to me liking them.

The athletic aspiration reward is a longer life. Since the elder age is open ended it makes sense that the days get tacked on there. I haven't paid attention to see if days are added to other stages. I've usually achieved this as young adults, but then I'm just like "oh, cool... they'll live longer. Then I don't think about it much".
I could see how it could throw things off in a family if other stages were affected; especially teen. I wouldn't mind the adult stage being prolonged though.
I almost never bother filling them out. I just keep them because they add a little flavor to my sim. So whenever I come back to the game after a while, I can look at their skills and Aspirations to remind myself what their character is like.
The Sims 4 hasn't introduced a new musical instrument since 2017

Can I say I love them for reason #2 and hate them for reason #5?
Sometimes I just get drawn into trying to complete them and end up speeding through/ignoring other events that I would have enjoyed if I'd just played without paying attention to aspirations.
I love them the most when they're a part of my character's story. Also, I have a rule that if completing an aspiration is part of my plot, I'm allowed to cheat the final tier if I want to. (Serial romantic and Big happy family have probably prompted this rule the most.)
Watch me mash together Sims and Pokémon to tell a story about battling glitches in Penny Saves Paldea. Updated every other Thursday.

Yeah, I wanted to include a generic "other" option but I already had 10 choices.
I like the idea of sims having a big goal to work towards. The rewards however are kinda meh to me theyre mostly a bunch of potions. I really liked the ones in ts3 like the genie, the motive mobile, floating bed i love getting new bb objects or gameplay objects that are more out there or extreme as rewards for having your sim complete their lifetime aspiration
There are a few reward traits I can't live without: 'seldom weary' (so that they have time to do more than just sleep), 'independent' (I hate socialising in real life and hate wasting my Sims' time keeping their social bar green), 'waterproof' (because the umbrellas don't work correctly), and 'gym rat' (so that they don't quit in the middle of a workout or yoga because they're stinky). All my kids complete three of the four kid aspirations and get 'seldom weary' and 'waterproof' before they age up to teen.
I do like playing the aspirations for the goals themselves, though - it gives some structure to my Sims' days, something for them to do besides eat, sleep and work. I love being able to switch aspirations - I had so many miserable Sims in S3 because their aspirations weren't working out. And I don't feel like it affects my sandbox play at all - since I can switch when it seems logical, it's much less limiting than the lifetime aspirations were. (Also, if I really don't like part of an aspiration, like eating beetles, I'll cheat past it. I don't do that often, but I'm glad the cheat exists.)
