I got into the Sims when i saw my brother play sims 2 or 3 (i dont remember) and i would always wanna play and create sims but he got annoyed. But in November last year i started watching Sims 4 streams and videos and i decided to buy it^^ I thought more teens played it but I'm happy the community is so diverse
@Komeettaa ... LOL, yes!!! My kids always wanted to create sims in my game, and it used to annoy me when they "messed" up my game while I was at work. I remember coming home one night and my daughter was having a melt down, they didn't want to tell me, but she had "accidentally burned my sim to death and the lady took the baby away". ROFL ... thanks for the memory, I'm sitting here grinning like a fool while reading the forum now.
Early 40's. Unlike most people here I discovered the Sims only two years ago, I wanted a virtual dollhouse to decorate but ended up enjoying the gameplay so much that I haven't done any building or decorating
My grown daughter is the one who introduced me to Sims2. Her sisters-in-law introduced her to The Sims, which was good, since my daughter was on her own in KS and her then hubby had been deployed to Kuwait. My daughter is a worry-wort, so I was glad she had something to occupy her mind. However, our phone calls ended up being mostly about The Sims. Come the year Sims2 was released, she was determined to fully explore Makin' Magic, which she had just gotten. Her hubby got her Sims2 for Christmas. It called, and she answered. LOL She was so blown away by it, she just had to share when they both got back to our home state of CA. My addiction was swift. I can tell you, it was a very good way to combat the "Empty Nest Syndrome". I'm humming a rather famous Beatles tune, since I'll be 64 next birthday.
I guess I'll hum "When I'm 64" right along with ya since I'm 64 right now.
Honestly, this thread makes me feel better about still playing the Sims, lol. I started with the Sims 2 several years ago and never really stopped. But I have severe anxiety and can't help but care, to an unhealthy degree, what people think of me. So, when someone asks what I like to do for fun, I freeze and am like "fun???? I uh... pay taxes. Like an adult. No, I don't play a silly computer game for hours. Don't be ridiculous."
I honestly did not know that the Sims community was so diverse in age, though. That's actually really interesting.
I can totally relate to this. I'm embarrassed to say that I play video games so much, but I love it too much to ever stop. So, I'll just do it secretly and hope I meet fellow Simmers, who won't judge me. But hey, there are lots of older Simmers on the forums who proved me that age truly is just a number!
What? You're embarrassed you play video games? I dont understand...
Well, some people may see it as childish or it just won't interest them to talk about it. My parents are two of those people, though two of my uncles still game. I don't want to risk boring people, getting made fun of or people thinking I'm childish, lol.
Most games are tailored for adults but non game players still hold onto the outdated idea that it's for kids. I grew up in the Nintendo generation and I think that's when video games started becoming more widespread. I dont think someone could make me feel childish about it if they tried.
I love that theres more women that play sims than guys. Its most likely the only popular game out there dominated by girls.
I play tons of video games outside of sims but just not the brainless shooter games. I have to have some cerebral activity and I think that's the difference. For most women it's not enough to just shoot something. That's boring to me.
I am so glad you made this because it shows just how out of touch the team is. They have said multiple times that they market this particular iteration to 13 year old females.......this poll is an eyeopener and shows that the demo is waaaayyyy older and not by a small margine either, but by a landslide. Im 32 and started playing the original sims since I was 14, but I played other sims games like simfarm when I was much younger.
The team REALLY needs to see this poll. They clearly do not know their audience. No this poll doesnt have wvery player, but that isnt how data collection works, you just need a decent sized pool. Roughly 400 people have voted so far which is a big pool and its not even close, 90% of players are over age 20....
It really is not even marketed to teenage girls. My oldest daughter is a teen (15) and thinks the game is boring. My 8 and 6 year old girls are more entertained by Sims 4 and enjoy it. They are marketing it to a certain demographic type on twitter.
60++ I have been playing the sims from day one and loving still. I don't think age matters at all. I tend to have large families in the sims, making up for the lack of one in my actual life.
I feel like I could be just about everyone's mother or grand mother out here, I am 78 but young at heart and am a great grandmother my oldest great grand child is now 16, My Granddaughter game me the sims when it first came out, I can't believe that I have been playing the Sims for 19 years. I am young at heart and love the Sims. I play other games like, City Skyline, Planet Coaster. No one in my family or friends play the Sims, they listen to me talk about them and I guess they just put up with it. But I am still playing I play both sims 3 and sims 4, sometimes sims 2.
60 plus been playing since sims 1. brought game originally for my then young sons, both grown now, and I'll be a grandma in May. As a child I loved paper dolls, My family tease me that the sims are animated paper dolls, and that is why i am addicted.

I'm of the opinion that we should spend our time on something that makes us happy. If gaming does the trick, then that's what you should spend time on. Our life is our own, we gain nothing from conforming to other people's judgemental opinions on us.

That is awesome! I hope I still get to play when I'm that age.

I'll give her channel a look! I agree, I've learnt that it's not worth it to allow other people to make you feel bad about yourself. Just do what you love and ignore the rest.

@Evalen I'm just behind you in the age stakes at 76 and I think there's someone in their 80's who's been on the forums in the last year. Why should the young have all the best games?

I meant that they sounded like younger than 20 emotionally, so......that's not good is what I was trying to say.

LOL, I'm not offended, actually. I just refuse to get old. I'll be 64 in less than a couple of months.
