Spirit fading - where is resting place?

Hello. If a sim dies while part of an inactive household (and you were controlling them a lot, just not at the time of death) can you find their "tombstone" or "urn" on the home lot they were living in? I want to be able to get urns / tombstones onto the same lot no matter which one they "die" on. Thank you in advance for any help.

Last I heard you cannot get an urn/tombstone unless the person is in the active household the exact moment of death. Thanks for any updates!

I am interested to know this as well. I got a few messages already when a sim I befriended passed away. However, the message is a bit useless since it doesn't tell me where the dead sim resting place is. It would be nice to click on the dead sim picture and travel directly to his/her resting place.

Sadly, if you aren't playing the Sim at their time of decease, no urn is available. What you might try to do is to purchase a tombstone and have your active Sim engrave it with the name of the deceased person, just as a remembrance. I'm not sure if the game will allow the actual ghost to appear, though.

If you can get to the urn or tombstone, your sim can put it in their inventory. If you know the house, maybe you can get in if there are other sims living there. I got Vladlius' urn in Straud mansion by going into buy/build mode from map view, set it on the porch and then had Caleb pick it up. It was the only time I knew where the sim was and was able to pick up the urn. I don't know if this would work for you. He's the only one to die that I knew, the rest have been townies I never heard of.

Is there still not a graveyard or mausoleum for ts4? I thought that one would've been added by now...

I asked this very same question here not too long ago, and I was told that there are indeed urns spawning on the lot where the sim lived, even when this wasn't your active household at the time. I also remember watching a let's play (which made me ask this question in the first place) in which the sim visited the Fyres lot where Morgan and Siobhan still lived, while the urns of Dominic and Moira were at the front door. I guess the only restriction here is that townies without houses don't leave an urn or tombstone behind them, but the housed ones do.

When I experienced my very first emotional death, which turned out to be two of such in a row, it was my active household. They were at the Rattle Snake Bar, I think or one of those and urns did manifest after Grimmie reaped the bodies of which he kept my last remaining YA Sim from pleading with him. I'm vexed about that. This isn't the first time I was told I had to wait to plead until the body is reaped. And then, once that happens there's no way to plead. It's become more of a sarcastic joke. But, again, this was my active household and not the friend of my Global Superstar who passed away. He never knew where she lived and wasn't with her when she left for parts unknown. :open_mouth: How is he to even try to help her, should her spirit start to fade? I would just as soon, let her fade away and be culled. I don't mean for that to sound harsh, but they've made it nearly impossible to help, so why give out a notification?

I read that wrong at first. The line reminded me of one Ebenezer Scrooge uses when turning down a charity: "Are there not Work Houses?", or words to that effect.

To answer your question, no. They have not added graveyards or a mausoleum. One has to do that themselves.

When my adult Sim revisited his childhood home where his younger sister still lived, both of his parent's urns were there, even though he didn't see them die and only got the notification, so it is possible, but maybe the luck of the draw.

I started the Rags to Riches Challenge in December and have played my founders until they died, so there are two gravestones in the backyard. I moved their oldest grandchild out of the house (playing her as my main household) but now that her own parents are elders, I may switch back to the main house so I can also get her brother ready for his own birthday.

I have a graveyard in the largest plot in Magnolia Promenade where i put my "family" tomb stones.
So unless you have made your own graveyard and managed to keep the urns as sims die, you won't be able to save them unfortunately.

I kinda wish there was a Service you could call for Urn/Tombstone delivery to your current lot.
It'd probably be kind of cumbersome if you had a LOT of ghost Sims in your game, if you had to find just the one you wanted in a long list of Sims, I suppose...

LOL, glad I could 'help'. Sadly, I had a few ancestors that ended up in Work houses. She was an unwed mother, 'wrong side of the blanket', as it was said, back then. He's my third great-grandfather, but managed to do okay in the long run, despite being raised in said work house. Yikes. Makes me understand the story of Scrooge so much more clearly in the end.

A lot of my family wound up in a workhouse too , so I can only empathize. Our ancestors had it rough that's for sure. :( Awful places really but so much potential for gameplay. Sadly I know people who are still of the Scrooge mentality, but A Christmas Carol is still one of my favourite films to watch. I could always do a haunted workhouse, my brain is literally on overload with this :D

The ancestors that I wrote of were living in England, too. Also, since I do have the written version of Charles Dicken's 'A Christmas Carol', I can say that just about every film rendition I've seen remain very true to the original work. Nobody can improve on such a great story. ;)

Most of the time you can find it on their home lot. But there's not any trick way to figure out where it is, you just have to go looking, and there's no cheat to get it if you can't find it.

Housed Sims will generate tombstones upon their death, including when you are not on the lot when they die. Tombstones are not generated for Sims that died before the November 7, 2017 patch.
Ghosts have a culling timer, which is set on death to 90 days. When that has counted down to 14 days, you will be notified that that Ghost is nearing the end of availability. At this point, tombstones get the interaction 'Strengthen Connection to the Physical World,' which resets the culling timer for that Ghost back to 90 days.

In my experience, I found three tombstones on a park lot in the snow (the Sims froze to death). I had visited the park a couple times but did not witness the deaths of the Sims (I think that if they had died while I was there, the camera would have panned to them). So to my knowledge, Sims' tombstones spawn where they died (even if you weren't there). Hope this is helpful!!

Sometimes I've been able to find a resting place of a sim I wasn't actually playing, but a lot of times I can't. In my experience, it helps if you have a little "graveyard" on the home lot--so, if you have pets, and they die, put the little graves in a little fenced area outside. Then, when I come back to the household after playing another one and a sim has passed away in the meantime, I've found the grave will have popped up next to the other ones. And a couple times I have found them just randomly around or in the house somewhere. But a lot of the time, if it's not readily apparent where it is, I'm never able to find it--there's just too many places to look. I definitely agree that it'd be nice if there was a an easier way--if we could request urns, or if they just showed up in the household inventory, or something.

I like to keep a little family graveyard for my main family, and a separate one in a park for other sims. The ghosts haunt the lot that the grave is on, so if you have a bunch of graves with ghosts that still have a connection to the physical world, that makes for an awful lot of ghosts.
[To be fair, I play with aging on for nonplayed households, but only active household for played sims, so there are a lot of nonplayed sims dying during the lifetimes of the sims I actually play, since I switch between different branches of my main family.]

I do wish that there were a way to find the urns of unplayed sims, or at least those of unplayed sims within my favorited households. When I lose interest in particular moved-out family members, I set those households as unplayed, but keep them in my favorited households, so they can go about their sim lives (with the help of MCCC.) I'd really like to be able to keep those graves on the ancestral lot.
