Yeah, I really don't post unless I have something to say. If what I want to say isn't on-topic to an existing active thread I can't post at all until I can create a new thread, unless I want to be a jerk by 'thread derailing' or 'thread necromancy.'
So in an effort to become a full member and effectively use the forum I am now making comments that I would otherwise not make, because they're a touch too trivial or not really in the right place.
Probably a lot of other new members have done the same. Resulting in longer threads with less valuable content, and a forum readership that skims threads and consequently is much less likely to click a react button on /any/ thread from a poster they're not already specifically paying attention to. Resulting in it being even /more/ difficult to become a full member.
And if you are a new member, it's harder for other readers to skim for your posts, because you can't have a member-icon that makes your posts visually recognizable at a glance. So your ability to get those reaction clicks is again hampered, just when you need them for the forum to actually become fully useful and fun.
And if you are a new member, you can't edit your posts, so your inevitable typos are gonna reduce the reaction-clicks, too. You might be totally insightful but minor errors will make people far less likely to notice it.
Even more frustrating: I joined this forum because I bought my first sims game only a couple of day ago. Since I am a real newbie, I have a /lot/ less stuff to say than people who've been playing the game for years, so I do not anticipate getting a lot of reaction-clicks. So it'll be even harder for me to become a full member.
And until I am a full member, I cannot create a thread in the Help Center. This pretty much put the kibosh on the point of joining, and I would not have joined if I knew about this set of rules beforehand.
So. PLEASE put this information somewhere up-top where non-members will see it before joining. Particularly since the rules that /are/ up top and which I /did/ read before joining say that the forum is meant to be a place where "Anyone should feel comfortable asking for help".
(This is actually more growl-and-eyeroll than my artist sim's easels being described as 'portable' or 'easy to carry' in the build mode when she actually cannot pick them up at all.)
I hope the critique doesn't tick people off, and I am sorry if it puts a damper on anybody's day, but. Seriously. :#
In paragraph block 3, please replace "...less likely to click a react button on /any/ thread from a poster..." with "...less likely to click a react button on /any/ post from a poster.."
I completely agree, @Dodge. I want to be respectful of the guidelines and I know what a hassle spambot accounts can be, but I definitely feel like I'm just chiming in a "me too!" response to everything thus far. And like you said, it's hard to get points from other members because I don't feel like my posts stand out, so it's going to take that much longer for me to earn the necessary points.
Hello @storminmay
You have the required posts now, but just need a few more points. You will soon get the points.
There has been a change in the number of posts and points needed. You now need to have 25points and 15 posts before you can become a full member.
Thanks a ton, @rosemow! I wasn't sure because I saw some conflicting information in other threads, so that's exciting to hear. :) And like I said, I totally understand why things are the way they are, but I just wanna jump right in!

@storminmay Yeah -- spambots, trolls. I've maintained a forum, a really tiny one, and shudder in me boots to think of looking after one this size. I'd consider making a newbie playground of sorts, maybe.
Well that's kinda fricking annoying when you made an account to get help for the game, but you can't make a thread to get the actual help. So Im stuck, gg.

I see, thanks because my issue is really bugging me and makes me not want to play the game. I will be posting in the thread. Appreciate the help.

Post requirements are stupid IMHO, I've been in The Sims community since the very beginning.... but I understand some people can't contain themselves and the need to prevent SPAM, so I guess I'll live with it.

Hello @batmanspiderman1 Welcome to the forums!
Just in case you weren’t aware, there has been a change in the number of posts and points needed. You now need to have 25points and 15 posts before you can become a full member. You can then change your profile picture , post pictures, have a signature, start new threads, edit posts , post links that show up correctly, and have quotes appear in grey boxes ,This thread explain about it. http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/934205/small-change-for-new-members#latest
Happy simming!
I realize they had to deal with trolling, but this is the stupidest, most counter-productive, most user-unfriendly forum control system I've ever had to deal with.
Mind you, it's EA, so I don't know why I'm surprised it's user-unfriendly.
Hello @Felice_Enellen
Welcome to the forums and congratulations on becoming a full member.
Sometimes simmers have found that they need to log out and log back in again, as you have done, to register that they are a full member.
Okay I think I get it, because I had an issue I wanted to try and get help with but I couldn't seem to post a thread about it.
Hello @mariahbenetatos Welcome to the forums!
There is usually a blue new discussion button at the top right hand side of the screen in the forum sections. But new discussion threads have been restricted for new members. You are unable to start a new thread until you become a full member. This has been brought in as a result of spambots.
You need to have 25 points and 15 posts before you can become a full member and can then post pictures, have a signature, start new threads, edit posts , post links that show up correctly and change your profile picture
This is hard for me. I am a member since 2012 but only thing about The Sims I do is building houses and making big legacy families and I want to share them. I don't actually care or know anything about the game background, CC, packs etc. but this forum makes me spam just to get 50 comments so I can finally post the only thing why I joined the forum - pics of my lots and families. Where can I spam to get the comments??? I mean it's 6 years and I have like 10 comments and I don't want to spam everywhere just to get the points.

Not actually edited for clarity and precision.
