Hello Everyone!
Yayyyy! It's that time again....another cycle of SMC is starting just after New Year's!!! Sign-ups are open now and will run for 2 weeks -
until January 12th. We want to give enough time for everyone to get back in the simming groove after the holidays. lol (We can start sooner if enough participation.) This cycle anyone can participate in any of the rounds they choose, and there will be a week to complete each assignment (see below).
There ARE a few more changes from the last cycle, so please reread the outline for the competition to see if you'd be interested in joining, judging, or lurking. Everyone is welcome!
▪ This is a Simplistic Magazine modeling competition that changes (starts a new Cycle) after every 4 rounds.
▪ Each round will be centered around a topic or activity with a variety of requirements to meet including advertising products.
You are welcome to participate in any round you're able to. There will be a crowned “Overall Pole Winner” at the end of each cycle. *Whoever participates in the most rounds and has the highest overall scores will be the ultimate winner. There will be a Round Winner for every assignment, PLUS the Overall Pole Winner announced after the Finale. The Overall Pole Winner is the ultimate winner of the entire competition. (The photographer who has the highest combined scores from all rounds, will be the OPW.) Placement siggys will be given for each Round.
▪ Cycle 2 will have a twist that will be announced once sign-ups are open.
*SPECIAL TWIST: Winner's Wrath: the winner of each round will be able to deduct a total of 1 point from another model, or 1/2 point from two models.
DESCRIPTION:
▪ Each Round will have different model requirements (see the assignment post for the round requirements).
▪ This is Round 1 of an ongoing 4 round competition. After every 4 Rounds a new Cycle begins.
▪ Rounds 2, 3, and 4 will each have new requirements, so be sure to check the new briefs for the updated changes/outline.
▪ Sims 3 or 4 male or female models can enter! You MUST specify which game you will be using for your model each round & you CAN choose either TS3 or TS4 for any round’s entry….just be sure to specify when submitting your entries.
▪ You MAY change (and will most likely need to change) your model each round.
ROUNDS/ASSIGNMENTS:
▪ Example pics will be provided each round using RL examples so as not to take away any creative ideas for your in-game styling, set-up, shots/pics, and/or staging.
▪ Each assignment turned in for rounds MUST correspond with the set assignment.
▪ You can fashion your model in any attire: casual, formal, swimwear, etc. However, the styling MUST make sense for the overall shot.
▪ Your background, staging, lighting, props, styling, colors, makeup, poses, etc. are all whatever you choose to use for your entry, but should make fashion sense.
(EXAMPLE: You shouldn't have your model wearing black boots walking on a beach wearing a speedo...boots should be worn with winter or fall attire or with a casual theme/setting.)---very important to keep in mind for scoring!
▪ Assignments will be posted after the previous round closes and you will have 7 days to submit each new assignment.
▪ First picture submitted will be the one judges use to score. Check, double or triple check it is the right one before uploading! NOTE: You may make up to 1 photo adjustment to correct any errors, please be sure any necessary corrections are made at the one time & be sure to tag me so your entry can be updated to the right pic.
▪ Each Cycle will consist of 4 rounds.
▪ The 3rd and 4th rounds will make up the Semi-Final and Final Round. The top 3 from the Semi-Final Round will move into the Finale.
▪ Winning placement siggies are given to the final Top 3
▪ Winner’s work will be featured in Simplistic Magazine along with an interview.
▪ Entry pics will be posted on Simplistic Magazine’s social media pages (with proper credit given to each model).
SCORING:
→ Creativity /10
→ Pose/Style /10
→ Quality /10
→ Editing/In-Game Detail /10
→ Overall Appearance /10
TOTAL EACH ROUND= 50 PTS
WOW (Additional Bonus Points available each round): +2 (1 for each judge)
SPECIAL NOTES on JUDGING:
CREATIVITY: Judges look at the amount of detail in the actual shot entered for each assignment, and the props (objects, etc.) & background used to “show-off” your model. It is good to be as cohesive as you can with the overall idea/theme you choose or you do for your shots. (Make sure your pics are easy for the judges to understand your creative vision for the shot). You are allowed to submit short descriptions, explanations, and/or intros to each shot you submit to help us to understand what you were aiming to achieve in your picture.
POSE/STYLE: You will always want to be sure your model’s look/style is different from the previous round or application shot; the attire of your model scores in the Pose & Styling category. Also please be sure that the actual pose ties in with the assignment’s requirements or the overall theme/idea/creative vision you are aiming for in your pics. It is not required to use pose player…some shots can achieve the necessary pose in-game with creativity. We do not deduct points if pose player is not used. You are scored according to how well the pose ties into your shot.
QUALITY: The aim for quality is magazine quality. Judges look at the amount of cleanness/clarity (are shots fuzzy/blurred in areas), focus, lighting, and the amount of detail of the actual model that is showcased in your pics. Please remember that we do not deduct points for shots which are purposely blurred; however, it is best to explain this briefly with your entries to insure points are not deducted unnecessarily.
EDITING/IN-GAME DETAIL: Judges will pay attention to the amount of effort & detail that the models put into either editing their shots (if you are photo editing) or in the actual use of the game to stage your model's shot (if not editing). This competition is designed for either and now each contestant will receive scores based upon how they choose to enter their shots.
OVERALL APPEARANCE: All shots submitted are scored according to how well each judge feels the total package views. This is entirely independent for each judge & views may or may not be the same. Also you can have points deducted in other categories but still score high in this category if a judge still feels the pic is presented well.
BASIC RULES:
- HAVE FUN!!!
- No arguing with judges, other models, or yourself! If you have questions about your scores, etc. PLEASE pm that judge.
- We want everyone to have fun & enjoy seeing the creativity of simmers everywhere!
- CC Can be used but not essential.

FINALS Round
For this final assignment we want a complete model portfolio in magazine style layout. Your portfolio needs to consist of 10 photos of your chosen model. Your pics should be photoshoot style backdrops (minimal backgrounds). If you do have anything in the background we are looking for a blurred effect consistent with how photographers showcase models for a portfolio worthy of picking a model for a magazine spread.
You MUST include ALL body shots including:
- one head shot in black and white ONLY
- one 1/2 body shot
- one 3/4 body shot
- one full body shot
The background must look like a photographer has taken the photos (meaning simple backgorund, blurred effects, or b & w (you choose as the photographer how to best showcase your preferred model).
You must show the following categories of clothing/fashion:
- subtle sleepwear (see example pics)
- fitness wear
- casual dress (not formal)
- outerwear (think late fall/winter fashion)
- swim suit
For these pics you can do either full color, b&w, sepia, or any other but you MUST show at least 1 pic of all the above categories plus your b& w head shot (super close up). For the head shot make sure that most of the head is cropped to show just your model's face/beauty features.
There is a link below for some RL model tips for preparing portfolios that may help in presenting your entry. Good luck to you all and please, HAVE FUN!!!
This IS the Final Round so please be creative and make sure you submit an entry using large enough sizes for your entry to show nicely (like an actual magazine editorial). You will have 2 weeks to complete your entry.
NOTE: I have used 1652x1169 (double A4 size page) for the example

FINAL ROUND DUE

FINALISTS
Movotti with Belladonna
TexasTwangTonya with Tonya
For this assignment we want an editorial style pic of your model dressed magazine-worthy in their fall fashion. you can do a formal or casual theme, but please be sure it is magazine-style/high fashion. For your picture's theme you will need to work with the available color choices in the provided color palette. The setting can be any background you choose as long as a fall/autumn setting is clearly identifiable. *You can use as many or few of the colors as you choose. Please do NOT use white; you CAN use the off-whites or light grays shown as an alternative to white. Black is allowed, but as an accent only. (This shouldn't be the entire color choice for an outfit.) The colors you use do not need to be exactly the same as the color palette, but try to get as close as you can.
This IS the Semi-Final Round so please be creative and make sure you submit an entry using large enough sizes for your entry to show nicely (like an actual magazine editorial). You will have 2 weeks to complete your entry. Have fun and good luck Everyone! A timer is below for Round 3. There is still a timer for R2's extension also, giving time for the final two entries. Welcome Tonya glad you are up for it.
Gumboots and speedos on the beach is a done thing.
Boots can be worn whenever the heck you want to wear them. And in parts of this country, you'd be a fool to not wear boots in summer. When I visit my parents, even in summer, I wear thick leather army boots. I've come close to stepping on a deadly snake too many times to be willing to wear anything else.
Also, my city has a living legend who wears speedos or a leotard with gumboots, in one our open air malls. @Jendowoz0612 probably knows who I'm talking about.
I'm sure you've heard of ugg boots.
They've been beach footwear since the company started.
And then there's goths. When they go to the beach, they tend to wear black boots.
Irn-Bru gets it.

The point is, don't make assumptions about how others choose to dress their sims. If you're uncertain of why they are dressed a particular way, ask before judging. We don't all live in the same country, and even if we did, not everyone would follow the same fashion rules.
I'm sure there are comps that allow for as much originality and individualism that you can muster, but it depends what sort of fashion comp the host is running. My Sophisticated Style contest, had certain expectations to match the theme, so these are things the hosts consider when they run one. But like you've shown over and over in your entries, you can be original and still do really well, my friend. So you pick and choose which comps you enter and those you choose not to so you can express your own creativity and that fits with your taste. I certainly do, so why not join, my friend and show us more of that.
I really admire the way you have always been able to express your thoughts, and will always speak up honestly. I like that in a person. That is how all my friends and I are all the time in RL and online.
He may not be the norm, but he does represent freedom of expression.
And he's so much of an icon, that people have been a bit worried because he hasn't been seen in the mall recently. It turns out he's working at a winery, and making dance videos in his spare time.
And me being me, will always find exceptions.
I probably will still join, now that I've had my slightly satirical sulk.
I get it from my mother. She's pretty blunt when she needs to be. She's got two artsy kids, and while she's really supportive, she's also not afraid to tell us when our work is substandard.
Some people get a bit ruffled by bluntness, so I try to amp up the classic irreverent humour.
@Movotti @Jendowoz0612 and myself LOVE creativity and we're both artistic & love writing too, so we really appreciate others expressing themselves in their own unique ways. There are a total of 4 judges and even if some of us don't 'get the vision' -so to speak, someone surely should. Jen and I actually specifically drafted entire themes to exclusively include both traditional 'American' AND 'Aussie' traditions and observances. Plus, there a WOW Bonus Points available each and every round. We would LOVE to have you, and I wouldn't want absolutely anyone to do anything other than be true to their own vision and ideas to express their creative side with The Sims and us.
@Jendowoz0612 You're good Hun! I have everything I need from you...no need to post your head shot again, but thanks for checking.
