Oh I signed up to imgur but I can't make a picture appear in a post. I've copied the link but where you've got the button that says "image" above where you type there's no OK button for it. What am I doing wrong?

Just paste in the direct link and press enter.
Is that the button that says URL or image?
Image. URL would create a link to the image instead of displaying it in the post.
If the URL doesn't end with an image format (.png .gif .jpg etc) then you have the wrong URL.
BTW, I realise this is a pretty simple thing but I kind of turn into a pensioner when confronted with anything internet/computer-based that I haven't done before so thank you for bearing with me.
I made a pros and cons list for two different sites, flickr and imgur. I've decided to use both because they each have something that I like and can't get from the other site.
Flickr
Pros:
- Uploads faster
- Resizing is easier
- Keeps the picture name (i.e. Screenshot 1 is still screenshot 1)
* This has been super helpful when replacing the pictures in my threads
Cons:
- The sharing links are long and a lot of it would need to be deleted to get the image part
- It's attached to Yahoo (I'm not sure why this bothers me but it does)
- Doesn't maintain images with transparent backgrounds
Imgur
Pros:
- The interface is simple
- The links are easier to use (no deleting loads of unneeded text to get the image part)
- Maintains images with transparent backgrounds
Cons:
- Resizing is a pain (I'd need to enter the dimensions of each photo and then share)
- It's slower to upload photos in bulk
- Although simple, I don't like the look of the interface
- Doesn't keep the name of the picture in the link
Flickr will most likely be my main source and I'll use imgur as a back up and for images with transparent backgrounds!
I'm guessing you have to be signed into Google to use it though. Though I have a google account I tend not to use it as I don't want their telemetry predicting what I'll search for, or whatever it is it does.
I know our online movements get tracked, but the less tracked the better IMO. There's no privacy these days.

Paste the link into the text box and add image tags at each end. [ img] URL [ /img] without the spaces.
