Some advice on CC please.

Hey fellow Simmers! I've been playing the sims games since day 1 but I've never really been brave enough to use custom content. However now I'm playing sims 4 I feel the content is a little lacking so was wondering if there are any recommendations for CC sites that are safe and have good content. Also how can I go about not ruining my game with bad CC. I'm a bit of a noob with this stuff I'm afraid so any advice would be super helpful. Thankyou in advance.

    Hello :)
These links explain about using cc and mods
    http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_4_Package_Files
    http://sims-online.com/install-mods-custom-content-sims-4-tutorial/
    http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/tutorials/mods-cc.php

Mysims4blog is a great site to find cc and mods. They post new cc/mods each day.
    The link is
    http://mysims4blog.blogspot.com

Modthesims is a good place to get mods from
    http://modthesims.info

There is a feature that when there is a game update, mods/cc are disabled. This link explains about it,
    http://help.ea.com/article/mods-and-the-sims-4-game-updates
After a patch, go to game options and tick the " enable custom content and mods" button which is found in :
Options | Other | Enable Custom Content and Mods. Also tick the script mods allowed button Exit the game. Then go back into the game again and see if the cc appears then and/or mods are working.

I mostly use Tumblr and search 'ts4mm or 's4mm', since I like CC that looks like Maxis made it.

I've used these blogs to find some good CC:

    creeperseason.tumblr.com/S4CC
    grumpyccfinds.tumblr.com/

I've got thousands of CC files in my game and none of them have caused any issues.

I use mostly mod the sims (modthesims.info -I think ) There's a fair few gameplay mods and a ton of cc.

One small tip : make some subfolders and sort your CCs. That way, it'll be easier in case you need to find back something you've added.

The main advice I can begin with is make sure you keep your CC organised from the start.

Create folders for it, either by creator name or type. Whatever makes sense to you. Doing this will pay off later when you have lots and lots CC later on down the road.

The only sites I know of that have guaranteed straight download links are Mod the Sims and The Sims Resource. Other sites such as those on tumbler, etc use various third party download sites for their CC and so can often lead to advert pages popping up before taking you to the proper download link. If this is the case, I always look for links to simsfileshare, dropbox, google drive etc. They seem to be smoother to use.

I would also recommend getting Sims Studio 4 for its CC management functions. The program can be used to create CC, but I use it to view and delete my CC outside of the game as well making sure CC I have downloaded is categorised correctly.

SS4 also has batch files that you can run and it will correct all your CC to remove tags that allow townies to wear it etc. This stops your sims town looking like a fashion parade from hell as only your played sims can use CC, unless you edit a sim to allow otherwise. It also cures the problem of sims wearing clothes in the shower.

I tend to go on sprees when getting CC. Once I have a pile of CC downloaded, I unpack it to a temporary folder and run the SS4 batch files on it and then copy it to the appropriate folder in my Mods folder.

Sims Studio 4 can be got from here:

Thankyou so much for your responses everyone! It has definitely given me some food for thought!
I will check all the links out and come back with any questions I have.

A quick question for now: If I create subfolders in the Sims4/Mods folder will the CC still work? I'm sorry if this is a basic question. Im not very good with computers lol

Thank you all again. :) xx

Yes, it works with subfolders, you can go 5 levels deep I think. If you want more than that, you'll need to edit a file.

You should have a file in your Mod folder called Resource.cfg. If you haven't create one with Notepad and put this in it, and you will be good to go:

    Priority 500
    PackedFile *.package
    PackedFile */*.package
    PackedFile */*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*/*.package

    Priority 600
    PackedFile Overrides\*.package
    PackedFile Overrides\*\*.package
    PackedFile Overrides\*\*\*.package
    PackedFile Overrides\*\*\*\*.package
    PackedFile Overrides\*\*\*\*\*.package
    Awake.

Another tip, remove all symbols and spaces from your cc names. It will help load the game faster from my understanding. There is a program called bulk renamer that does it for you.
Hoping some day for some toddlers. But also dreading they'll never come. JK THEY ARE HERE!
