@Erpe , Thanks so much for responding so fast. I will try the things you have said to do. I have spent already $40.00 trying to do it faster, and open the jail cell as the Sim is a level 7 now. but i need more points it says, or pay 456 Life Points, which i don't have . I have spent my $40.00 already. So i will have to take my time and try what you have said will work. Thanks again, your wonderful to be so helpful. Ella
You don't need to pay neither this money or all those life points. I would guess that you instead just need to do at most maybe about 20 full tasks which only takes a couple of hours when you have the time. (Each full task consists of 2 to 4 smaller tasks which all have to be done by one of your sims. But it never matters which sim you choose to do it.) After that you should have the resources. Just remember to use the resource exchange too.

I was nearly out of resources too when I got the jail cells unlocked because I had used almost everything to upgrade other workstations. But a few hours later I could build the jail cells anyway :)

@Erpe , Your so right, i did the resource exchange, and also sold some resources that i did not need. It made it so much better! I can see me getting the jail opened up sometime today! I will get back in the game soon as i need to go shopping, then i will get my jail opened. I also will pass on this information to all my friends who also play this game at the hospital. Thanks so much! :D

I can assure you @Erpe, it's not designed so Simmers "can't succeed every day".
    Are you sure?

I am not anymore. The reason is that you only need 4 badges to get promoted from lvl 7 to lvl 8. But my sims are still only half the way to get all the needed XPs. So we need maybe 20 workshifts to be promoted but only 4 badges in all those workshifts. Therefore we don't need to get a badge every day because we will get the badges anyway even if the chance for badge number 2 only is 25 to 30 percent. So I am not so sure that it can't be designed to work this way anymore?

Two things point in the opposite direction though:
    1. The other 3 badges are easy to get and don't even require that we do all the allowed 25 tasks.
    2. It will be hard for most players to do all 25 tasks and the first badge therefore only requires 16 tasks to be done.

But it is still a design issue which somebody maybe included without enough consideration. Do you know if it will be changed?

I have a problem... So, I had one sim reach level 6 and choose the police profession. I started another sim in law enforcement, however, when my 2nd sim reached level 6, they automatically went into police too! I wanted to put them into the Special Agent so I could work towards building the interview room. How do I switch my sim over to be a special agent?

They are all police. But you can only have one special agent and only one metropolitan officer. Only your special agent can use the interview room and only your metropolitan officer can use the squad car. If you have more than two police officers then none of your other officers can be specialist or use the special rooms.

So I think that you just haven't chosen branch yet?

Can somebody explain the basic concept of the law enforcement career/task? Is the object just to have a sim complete a shift at work, increase levels, and upgrade when I have enough items (donuts and radios)? It seems like a fun task, but there has to be more to it than that.

    Help me!!

Hi @MusicMeg222, Have you checked out TheGirlWhoGames' guide on the Police Update yet? (https://thegirlwhogames.wordpress.com/2016/06/14/the-sims-freeplay-police-update/)

Super helpful and might help clarify some things, but if you have any questions at all just pop them here in this thread :)

The object seems to be that this career can be played in two ways:
    1. Just like all the other careers if you don't like to follow your sims to work.
    2. To have a little more fun if you like to follow them to work and give them tasks. You don't have to do this. But you earn resources this way to be able to upgrade your workstations and to build new ones. But you can only let them do at most 25 tasks each workshift.

At lvl 6 one of them can be promoted to metropolitan police officer and another one can be promoted to special agent. But you can only have one of each type at the same time. So when your third police officer reaches lvl 6 too then you can't choose this sim to be a specialist too until one of your two specialists die. But only your specialist can use the the 8 special workstations which you can build later. (You can build 4 new workstations for each type of specialist.)

The new career is fun to play - but for me mostly until I reached lvl 7 and had built half of the new workstations. But at lvl 7 your specialists improve so slowly that most of the fun disappears. I suspect that this will go even slower at lvl 8 where we can build two more workstations for our specialists.

My third and fourth police officers are improving very slowly at lvl 6 too. But they are still rookies because they can't become specialists unless my other specialists die. This also means that they still only can do tasks in the three original workstations which have become quite boring. So I don't let them do many tasks while they are at work. I also believe that my resource storage soon will become full anyway and I can't use more resources until I get lvl 8 specialists and build two more rooms. But to wait for weeks until this happens is actually quite boring. So I don't play as much as I used to ;)

Thanks for the information. It's going too slow for me too. I want fun also, not stress. ;)

Yes. I believe that I have to send two of my sims to a second workshift today even though it will cost me 40 LPs. I just have to speed things up a little :) But I sure won't let them do 25 more tasks anyway because I need to relax too ;)

I will send my two other lvl 6 officers to work too because I am still curious about how this works when they reach the top of lvl 6 too. Can they really be promoted all the way to lvl 10 even though they can't become specialists like my lvl 7 sims?

The two specialists in my iPad game have just been promoted to lvl 8 and I am building the forensic lab right now :)

When this lab is finished the recorder resource will be unlocked. And when I have built the K-9 unit too the two other remaining resources will be unlocked too. But I will have to wait 24 hrs before I start building the k-9 because I won't pay for VIP7 just to be able to build two workstations at the same time ;)

It will take some days yet before my specialists in my other game will reach lvl 8 yet because I don't have enough LPs in that game to be able to send them to work twice a day. It will also take some days before my lvl 6 sims would be able to reach lvl 7 if the game allowed it. But I discovered by looking at their data that the game says that they have to choose a speciality to be able to level up further. So this probably won't ever happen because I don't plan to let my specialists die just to get new specialists :)

I need my lvl 6 officers to collect resources too though because beginning to build the forinsic lab was very expensive and used almost all my resources.

There are very few of the tasks which are that difficult. But you will succeed anyway if you keep trying. The hardest tasks are something like the one I am working on right now which says "Collect 20 donuts during a workshift". You need to use all 25 possible tasks to do that and it will still only succeed about one time in every three attempts. So it is quite hard but in no way impossible ;)

Most of the other tasks are so easy though that they will succeed every time. An example is "Collect 7000 simeleons during a workshift." You can't miss that if only you follow your sims to work and let them do their tasks.

Well, considering that these Professions are the first time we've ever done them in The Sims FreePlay we're taking on board all the feedback we're getting from Simmers such as yourself so we can better improve for the future :) Thanks for being so patient with us! It's definitely not meant to be incredibly difficult or impossible to complete tasks, however we are appreciate hearing from you as we constantly adjust the tuning for professions!

The tasks certainly aren't impossible at all. A few of the tasks in the police profession lvl 7 and 8 are just so "difficult" that they only will succeed about once for every three days. I am now at lvl 8 and collecting 20 donuts in a single workshift is such a task. One of my lvl 8 sims has already succeeded and I am sure that the other will too even though they failed yesterday. So you don't need to change it for me :)

There is a problem with the new rooms which you unlock at lvl 8 though because just a single task in those rooms takes about an hour (just a little less if you upgrade the rooms). But you can't afford to use all that time on a single task if you need to do 25 tasks every day - and you do to have a chance of collecting those 20 donuts! It is easily solved though by always skipping those long tasks by using a LP and I can afford this. But always skipping those tasks makes the tasks a little meaningless. So can that really be your intention?

I'm at Level 8 trying to get to Level 9. Super frustrating -- the last badge for both professions require that 3 peeps granting rare resources (tape and recorder) come into the station during the shift and be helped . Since I can only play up to 25 peeps, and can't get rid of them without helping them, I'm stuck. I shudder at playing this same level indefinitely until the gods of luck smile on me or my Sim dies and I have to start all over again (I've already had to set the "adult" clock back on one Sim just to get to where I am).

The only possibility I can think of to get to Level 9 is to use 2 non-specialist Sims on a shift, but keep them playing (cancel before the end of the shifts and keep them playing, which is generally a waste of time) and to "reserve" the needed resources by not completely helping peeps with that resource. Then, after I have the needed 3, I can bring in the specialist who needs the resource to capture it. However, this approach will take some serious time and effort commitment (I've got to keep playing more or less continuously) even if it works.

I hope the developers will please consider modifying this last badge requirement to be more feasible given the constraints of a shift. One way would be to not automatically end the shift at 25 peeps, but only give the option of ending the shift. The others would be to shift the goals or probabilities.

I actually had more problems with the donuts. But all my 4 lvl 8 sims finally got them anyway (I am playing 2 games on different devices). Only one of my 4 police officers has got all 5 badges yet though because the other 3 officers are a little behind and are just to start on getting the final badges. Still even the officer with all 5 badges only has 53% of the XPs needed to get to lvl 9. So i can't complaint even though he also had to use a couple of days to get the 3 tape recorders :)

Getting a badge is trivial for some of the badges which only requires work (like "Do 18 tasks"). But others like the donuts and the tape recorders requires luck too. But I believe that we always will get the badges anyway after a few days.

@Erpe , I have just started sending my Sims, and not following them anymore, it takes too long, and they need to adjust this, or more people will stop going with their Sims too. :/

I don't think so. The reason is that there are two types of players:
    1. People who likes challenges. For those players they added 4 extra levels to the two new professions. But if you don't like this then you can still just send your sims to work without following your sims to work and without specializing.
    2. People who just want an easy game. The first 6 levels in the new careers were made for such people.

I don't think that they should change this because I sure don't like a trivial game myself. Therefore my other game isn't TS4 but instead a war game which is free too - except that I actually have used much more money on it than on this game because I get much more for my money there. (I still don't like to use real money on free games though.) That game is hard and a little too aggressive for me but also much more challenging than this one ;)

Both my lvl 8 captains now have all 5 badges and one of my lvl 8 super sleuths has them too. Today the other super sleuth only got 2 out of the needed 3 recorder resources for his fifth badge. So he will have to try again tomorrow. But this means that 3 out of my 4 lvl 8 police officers now have all their 5 badges.

I believe that they always have about a 50 - 50 chance to get each of the hardest badges. But most of the badges are actually trivial to get. At least if we just let them do all the allowed 25 tasks ;)

I get what you mean, about liking it the way you do. I don't want it super easy either. But, that being said when you work 12 hour shifts at a hospital, i don't have hours to spend on here, i have to carry on with my life, Have a great day! ;)

I agree that it is hard to get to lvl 10 in this career. It seems to be a little easier in the movie studio where you only can do 15 tasks instead of 25. But I still haven't built more than one new room there though because I haven't been able to get enough resources yet to build the other new room for my other lvl 6 specialist.

I recently retired from my job. So I have the time to spend just now. But otherwise you have to wait for days where you can do all the needed tasks. I agree that this can take a long time. But this is probably also the intention because such games aren't meant to be "finished" in just a couple of months. Of course we need to feel a little progress. But the game companies usually want us to play such free games for years :)

This. I feel the same way. I'm not even bothering with the careers any more. For me its not difficult, just tedious. I've gone back to cooking (2 hr meals) and collecting life points while waiting for the next quest. Hopefully it won't be another career quest.

@simgirl1010 , I so agree with everything you said.. Yes, that's the word i wanted to use was tedious, i was too tired to think of it. You hit it right on the nail. No more career quests i just can't stand it. I really like this game, but not this, i would never get anything done in my life!
