It seems another feature was taken from a Windows and Mac game is the Profession feature from The Sims 3 Ambitions and The Sims 4 Get to Work, it even has the two branches from TS3/TS4. The new career is Police similar to how TS4 renamed Law Enforcement to Detective.
However, Law Enforcement dates back to the original The Sims so this would make it one of the new features to appear in all 4 The Sims games as well as The Sims FreePlay. Cooking is also another example although it appears as a Hobby (since FreePlay doesn't have actual Skills like other games do). The Sims 4 and The Sims FreePlay had no Law Enforcement career until Get to Work and Police Update, respectively.
Another change I spotted is that the career icons were changed. Politics used to be a mirror, Artist was an easel, and Scientist was a telescope. Now they are changed to a podium, paintbrush with paint on something (I don't know what the other object is called), and a microscope respectively. I do have some changes listed on
Minor changes in the Police Update.

My police station is finished tomorrow. So then I can see how the two new careers work
I don't know if it's just me but I also think the action name on the bar in the Sim tracker seems to be centered rather than on the left like the previous version.
It will also seem that Police will be the first career in FreePlay to have 10 levels rather than 5 like the other careers making it similar to other games which have 10 career levels. Branches also have a different name as they're called Specializations as opposed to being called Branches in The Sims 3 and The Sims 4.
FYI, the Police Profession doesn't have a time limit It's here to stay!
My police officers are now lvl 5. So I am close to get the lvl 6 officers which I need to unlock new workstations.
I play with 4 police officers and I have tried different strategies to speed things up. But the best way seems to be to just send the same team of two police officers to work on tasks and then send the two other officers to work too (but without following them because you can't). Then I attempt to reach 25/25 as quickly as possible so their work shift finish because then I can send them to work again (you need 20 LPs and VIP1 to be able to do this).
If you don't have the time to reach 25/25 then you don't need to because you can just send them to work every day in 8 hours without following them. They will advance a little slower - but it won't be a big problem. Even so you should still do as many tasks as you can to get the needed resources for upgrading the workstations. Those workstations will look a little different when you get them upgraded to lvl 10
@WinMacSims3 Another difference between the new police career and the old careers is that in the old careers you have to wait 24 hours before you can send your sim to work again. But in the police career you just have to wait until midnight no matter when you sent your sim to work. As soon as the date changes your sim is ready to go to work again
I have attempted it twice but they are only able to reach about half of the needed fingerprints or handcuffs. The problem mainly is that almost none of the visiting sims have handcuffs or fingerprints which therefore seem to be rare resources. Have I missed something?
You don't have to do all the 25 tasks to get promoted. If you don't then it will take slightly longer to get promoted. But that is all. So you can just play the police career the same way you play all the other careers - at least until you reach level 6.
At level 6 you have to choose between special ops or metropolitan police. But you can only have one sim in each branch. So I am curious about what will happen when my third sim (now level 5) reaches level 6 too?
So you don't necessarily have to care about tasks until you reach level 6. The only reason to do tasks at the lower levels is that the tasks give you resources that can be used to upgrade the workstations. But if you don't do tasks then those upgrades don't matter
But at level 6 you will need to get 3 badges if you want to advance to level 7 and you can't get badges unless you do a lot of tasks. From level 7 to level 8 you even need 4 badges and the badges become harder to get the higher level you have reached.
Anyway I would still recommend that you just send your sims to work in this new career but only do tasks when you have the time for it. Even if you don't do tasks at all you can still reach level 6 and as you know you can't get higher in any of the other careers either
I usually don't follow my lvl 5 sims to work btw. But they are already at lvl 5 anyway
Edit: I now have two lvl 7 specialists and also a lvl 6 police officer who can't specialize unless I remove the specialization from one of the other sims. But without a specialization they can't be promoted anymore. So the police career then just works in the same way as the old careers
I like the way this is made because it means that we are completely free to choose if we will follow our sims to work and collect resources so they can be promoted to lvl 10 - or just let them work on their own with lvl 6 as the top lvl like in all the other careers
@Erpe Have you tried out the Resource Exchange yet? It might help!
Hm, that's very odd :S... could you send us a help request so we can take a look at that for you please? Thanks! http://bit.ly/EAFMhelp
Anyway it isn't my game that has this problem. It is a design issue where it seems that you don't want us to succeed every day. I will keep trying. But the problem is the same in both my android game and my iPad game. It seems that the chance to get this badge only is about 10 percent even if we do all the allowed 25 tasks (which is also quite hard in the scetch room and in the jail cell where every task takes 12 to 14 minutes). I believe that you should consider to raise the probability of visiting sims to have handcuffs or fingerprints as their resources unless you really want it to be that difficult to get the badges?
Edit: Remember that doing a 4-part task in the interview room + squad car + jail cells + scetch room takes about 45 minutes. So doing 25 full tasks in only 8 hours is actually quite hard too!
I don't think many simmers have come to the problem yet. But you can be sure that it will be taken up by a lot of people soon if you don't do anything about it
But the fourth sim wasn't even close and only got 9 of the 25 needed handcuffs. Anyway my statistic for 12 attempts to get the badge from 25 daily tasks now is 0/4 + 0/4 + 3/4. That is 3/12 badges and therefore suggests that the chance for a badge is about 25% in each workshift.
I don't at all mind this difficulty degree though because I have played much harder games and even the Lion King platform game which my young daughter and other children loved to play 20 years ago had much higher difficulty degree than this. But I still didn't expect it in a Sims games because the Sims games have always had the lowest difficulty degree among all the games that I have tried. But for me you are very wellcome to raise that difficulty degree. I would actually just like that
At lvl 7 our sims need 4 badges to be able to be promoted to level 8. The requirements are:
Badge 1: "Help 16 sims during a workshift" (automatically done if you they help the maximal 25 sims).
Badge 2: "Get 25 handcuffs/fingerprints during a workshift" (Very hard and did only work for me in 4 out of 13 attempts.)
Badge 3: "Get 6000 coins during a workshift" (Very easy.)
Badge 4: "Help 2 important sims during a workshift" (Probably easy even though I don't know which visiting sims the game actually regards as important. But I had this kind of quest also for one of the three badges at lvl 6 where I didn't have any problems getting the badge.)
In the same way handcuffs and the squad car will be unlocked if you have a lvl 6 police officer and instead choose metropolitan police.
1. As soon as you have a metropolitan police officer at work then some of the visiting sims will have tasks for the squad car if the officer is lvl 6 and also for the jail cells if the officer is lvl 7. This is true even if you haven't built those workstations yet.
2. The same is true about the interview room and the scetch room if your special agent is at work.
3. If you send other police officer to work instead (when your specialists have finished their workshift) then the visiting sims who have tasks for the special room don't leave. But none of the new visiting sims will ever have tasks for those new rooms (workstations).
4. There won't ever be more than at most 4 visiting sims at the police station at the same time.
You should also remember the resource exchange (which you find by tapping at the icon in the upper left corner of the screen when you are inside the police station and then choosing the third tab). It is by far the cheapest way to get the needed resources and there should never be any need to use real money or even LPs instead.
You should always send your police sims to work every day and you don't have to wait 24 hours to do this like you do in all the other professions. In the police career your sim is always ready to be sent to work again when the date advances. So if you send a sim to work at the police station at 11pm then this sim is finished 8 hours later at 7am but can be sent to work immediately again because the date has advanced while the sim was at work.
You don't need to follow your sims to work if you are too busy with other things. But you should always give them as many tasks as possible to get resources which you can use to upgrade workstations, build new workstations or to trade at the resource exchange. If your resource storage becomes full then you can either expand the storage or you can sell some of the resources (from the storage screen by tabbing on the resource which you want to sell).
If you don't follow your sims to work they will still get XPs and become promoted. But if you don't ever give them tasks then you won't be able to build new workstations or able to upgrade the old workstations.
I hope this helped?
