It means these are the sales that EA would have made. These are the players who initially wanted to buy TS4's EPs but don't anymore. This isn't a matter of EA not gaining sales, they are actually losing them. Hence negative sales.
Please note that this is just for this EP, in actuality a lot of the players who are boycotting have stated that it's not just this EP they are sitting out, but they aren't buying anything else for TS4. For myself, I have refrained from buying GPs (which I was interested in originally) and SPs because I was waiting for toddlers. Now I'm also not buying anything. If the core game improves, I will recant this statement in a heartbeat and back purchase the whole game That being said, I'm not waiting for this or expecting it any more.
As a collector for fifteen years who bought on preorder during that time all the time EA lost guaranteed income on me.
As preorders help secure the return on development costs those preorders make their lives easier.
Just one of me won't matter. But I know I'm not the only one xxx
Well... I guess it is relevant, but I would have picked another word for it, like "lost sales".
"Negative" sales to me sounds like the company actually paying out money, like for returns.

Well under the guarantee they may get returns! I agree though. Lost sales sounds better.
I can't speak about the game, because I don't have any real facts to back it up with. Just the feeling that all is not going well. But I can tell you that they are losing money in gifting. I do not have time to spend a hour and a half on the phone to try to gift someone when I know darn well that it has been done. I understand you can't gift in another country and am not taking issue with that. I am talking a US to US transaction. So apparently they are a business that does not want money, or right does not know what left is doing.
It's a good suggestion. I'm working on displaying the comments from everyone, so I'll probably be able to do it tomorrow. I'll have to edit the dynamic image.
11 pages already? I have a lot of reading to do. lol
PLEASE FIX TEENS IN TS4! I NEED YOUNGER TEENS NOT YA TEENS! (^_^)Please add Music Bands with lead singers! Please add vehicles and garages! Vehicles have always been part of The Sims.
Logically it means that more people should be returning the game for a refund than the number of new sold copies. Something some of the haters probably would love

I got all the Expansions and Stuff Packs for Sims 3 (including Katy Perry Stuff Pack) and pre-ordered most of them.
I have purchased everything I can get from the Sims 3 Store.
I pre-ordered the Sims 4 Base Game.
I have not purchased any Expansion or Stuff or Game pack for the Sims 4 and won't be buying any of them either unless, by some miracle, they drastically change the way the game works. I'm not interested in just adding new content - I want the way the game is played to change. I have no expectation this will or could happen so I have no expectation I will every buy any new content for the Sims 4 game. That made me sad at first, but now I'm really enjoying Sims 3 more than ever as it is now a complete game and I've started adding CC and other things to give me even more control of how I play the game.
@Karritz I just had to pull this out from your comment as I think it highlights something important: "I have not purchased any Expansion or Stuff or Game pack for the Sims 4 and won't be buying any of them either unless, by some miracle, they drastically change the way the game works. I'm not interested in just adding new content - I want the way the game is played to change."
I've read comments, probably by children who have no idea why the grown-ups are upset, that pretty much say "I'm buying everything for The Sims 4 because I don't want them to fail. I want them to have enough money to work on the game. In time it will be perfect but they just need time and everyone needs to stop complaining. They're doing their best...(and a bunch of other similarly misguided sentences...you get the point)." The game needs just that, a miracle. The engine is so restrictive, and I think Maxis really shot themselves in the foot by purposely making the game so trimmed, and the way it's been working from day one will be the way it works until they pull the plug on supporting it. I see VERY little attention being given to The Sims 4 by the large media outlets, the ones who push sales in a massive way, and there's just this blanket of silence settling over the game. The developers don't seem to really give a hoot, players seem to be shrugging their shoulders and walking away, and I know I personally have given up on the game a LONG time ago. I found it frustrating to be forced to play the way the game wanted me to, while all this time I've been used to playing how I wanted to. it's not that The Sims 4 is "different but similar" in the way a sequel needs some getting used to, it's that the game is totally different and the spark of life has been extinguished in the process of trying to cater to the lowest common denominator. Apparently people with underpowered laptops trump those of us who've been giving them all the cash to make this game who actually know that PC gaming requires a computer of a certain caliber. One thing (out of MANY, and if I tried to list them all out I'd certainly break the Internet) that irked me was people saying, "Well I never got The Sims 3 to run right because my computer didn't meet the minimum specifications. I hated The Sims 3 but I can run The Sims 4 on my $300 DELL laptop that's 20 years old so now I'm happy. I don't know why you people are complaining. We don't want to see any negativity. YOU'RE BEING NEGATIVE!!! GET OUT!!!" This weird, childish, mentality that somehow "being negative" is a bad thing pretty much sums up why there's this huge and weird disparity...most of these people are most likely children, attempting to figure out something they simply don't have the life experience to have the knowledge on how to deal with it. When they have to use their own money some day they'll get it and it'll be a hard lesson to learn. PC gaming has always required certain hardware and, well I'm of a certain generation so it's slowed down quite substantially, periodic hardware upgrades in order to stay current with gaming trending towards ever more complexity. They act like this is somehow a new concept when it's been going on for over 30 years. The game was made like The Sims 2 because that's what worked on 20 year old hardware. My cell phone has more processing power than my first Windows XP machine...I mean honestly, how stupid do they think we are. They just wanted to cast a wider net is all...and in doing so have seemed to have caught less fish than expected with such wide gaps between the ropes.
Not a flop when it comes to sales, but a failure in everything else. Hopefully the GT boycott has some sort of impact.
Also, people need to be respectful. Regardless of how you feel about the game, good or bad, there's no excuse to call people names and mock them. Just wanted to get that out there.
I disagree, I think SimGuruGraham worked his bum off for the retail part of GTW. You could tell by his comments and engagement with the community that he loved this project and was invested in his work. In fact, even though I say that TS5 needs a new team working on TS5, I think SimGuruGraham would do just fine working on TS5. And even though I'm not playing GTW (I did buy it though) from all the screenshots I see, it looks to be the most casually used feature in GTW.
That being said, yes, there were several missed opportunities, but I don't think it was for lack of dedication or investment.
I'm not sure if these will be added later in GPs or if the option for residential businesses is even possible with the game core. TS4 is a limited and limiting game.
Yeah I'm pretty sure SimGuruGraham does actually play the Sims 4. I mean you can see a lot of videos done of him actually playing the game when Maxis used to do live videos to promote packs.

It's not really negative sales, but potential sales if being exactly technical about it. Like how businesses have a prediction of how many sales they are going to make in a year. So the figure could be either lower or higher than that. It is a rough estimate.

So nice to know that it means it includes people who dislike others as well will like it too. But when term is used here, it is a total the pot calling the kettle black type of thing. But I don't think anyone is a hater. Prejudice is just rampant since the interview. But yes this is why name calling makes posts seem irrelevant. It becomes nothing more than a he said she said argument.

negative sales is not wrong this exist in market
normally company live from "expeculations, like they expectating a product sell x sales based on all the data they gathere, then if the product ending sold less then they get negative sales then based on how low the numbers where compared with projections they will take or no actions, which can be from stop to produce that product to try to do a strong market and advertising if that don't work then or they pass to next version of product or drop it like they did with sims medieval, companies normally don't try to sell products without have some knowledge if it is good or no, they do researchs, try to look at what the customers like and what could attract then, then based on that research they try to make a estimate on how much profit theu can get from it and that is when come negative sales when the sales number are smaller than what what they estimate.
ps: i forget also for that numbers they also take in account the budget they expending in producing the product, like if they get less money than they expending in produce the product(this is more effective in physical products that is why now maxis is putting almost everything as dlc and no more physical cuz this cost much more money to make the physycal mdia) then again are very negative sales.
Logically it means that more people should be returning the game for a refund than the number of new sold copies. Something some of the haters probably would love
(Nevermind)
I think what makes me most annoyed with this comment besides the obvious flamebait is this: when disappointed fans complain about the game and say they are leaving or not buying TS4 or point out the game's flaws, what is the first argument hurled at them?
"Be patient."
Maxis says this. Fans say this.
And then a year later, out of the blue, in comes a fan who mocks those of us who didn't return the game day one.
i honestly would love to be able to return the game and get back my money to buy actually good games for me, which really whenever i get a bad game this give me headcaches and a defeating feelings or let's say my prider of gamer get badly hurt whenever i ending buying bad games.
Logically it means that more people should be returning the game for a refund than the number of new sold copies. Something some of the haters probably would love

Calling someone a "hater" isn't name calling. The forums automatically censor actual name calling, unless someone gets crafty. It's possible, but here there's no issue. I hate The Sims 4, shall I be accused of something too? And when I say "I hate The Sims 4" I'm being completely honest...probably accused of being entitled, arrogant, ignorant, impatient, etc. Is that name calling? No, not really...what I would be is a babyish adult if those words hurt my feelings in such a way as to cause punitive damages which is what actual "name calling" is. I don't want to sound like I'm coming in my high horse but this kind of stuff really grates my last nerve, this oversensitive shaming nonsense...
