My video game time is severely limited. I am very particular about what I do play.

Sims and the Grand Theft Auto series have been able to occupy probably 60% of my video game time over the last few years.
If it's severely limited, you shouldn't play what you consider a mediocre game just so another sequel comes out. They need to know it's mediocre and one of those ways are by declining sales...

I should re-iterate it was mostly the positive comments on here that got me back in the game to try the good features out. And the SimGuruGrant comment really only got me thinking about having "no sims", which I came to realize was what I HAD.

Oh well, at least we aren't debating the first amendment like my first thread.

I agree with that. I'll take a half-finished game over nothing at all.

    Just wondering, are you GameLover16?

    Yes

It really amazes me that people are taking what grant said as a threat/blackmailing them into buying the Sims 4. Even the thought its self is funny, but with the forum there's only one thing they seem to constantly say:

LOL. Hey, if you like the game, great, enjoy. But I wouldn't let Sims 4 guru guilt me into purchasing ANYTHING. What next? EA does a commercial for Christmas time, its own version of a Christmas Carol, trying to convince all the naysayers to buy so that they don't get visited by the Ghosts of EA Failures Past. You know, that might not be a bad idea.

All that said, I don't think the game looks that bad, just very average (given the time constraints, maybe that's pretty good). It just doesn't strike me as anything I want to dump money on right now.

Grant's statement was made within context. Someone inappropriately gave him a laundry list of things that should be included in TS5 - the same week TS4 launched. Everybody and their mother will disagree, but I think his response was appropriate given that question. I've seen actors and directors make similar statements when people ask about sequels way ahead of their time. Grant didn't just tweet out that people need to support the game or else, he responded to a specific inquiry about something not even in production.

The SimGuruGrant comment didn't really guilt me into buying the game people, it just.....ah never mind my game's done installing.

I stink at internet forums anyway.

It's basic supply and demand. I was thinking that before he said it. I was hearing all the complaints before it was released and thinking that this could be the end. It makes me sad bc I have been playing since the beginning.

I too don't think he meant it as a threat, however it is common sense. If they don't make enough, they will axe it. They aren't in business bc they want to lose money.

Yes, but it's become the new "Things Change". Out of context it sounds horrible, and has become a scapegoat to rally against. Until a Sim Guru says something else that sounds equally as bad, people will keep saying it's extortion.

Lol~ You did an "Angry Paint" - which could be a new Mood action for the Sims 4.

As long as you have fun, then have fun. :D
I'm going to get it when the price goes down or the expansion is what I really like or Christmas or in a bundle but one day, I'll buy it. There is no doubt- unless I win the lottery *hear me Universe!* :D

The sims is one of my favorite franchises, but I will not be backed into a corner to buy an iteration that has 0 appeal to me. Thats like buying Resident Evil 5, it was aweful. The difference with console games and PC games is, you can rent console games. I rented RE 5 and I found it rather annoying. I can't rent TS4, and from what I've seen the game has little to no appeal to me. No pat on the head from me for this iteration.
It's quite drop from the top, so how ya feeling down there?

I don't think I got "played", I get to play the game now. Beats angry pooping in real life over things I didn't like about the game.

If the reason that you bought the game really is just on the off chance that its possible failure could kill the series, that is a horrible reason. Unless you've warmed up to it.

I feel that was the main reason SimGuru Grant said that. As a scare tactic to get people to buy it. And a very good one at that. In response to that person who was talking about TS5, it would've made sense to say, "The Sims 4 is many years away. We aren't focusing on it at this time. We are working on The Sims 4." However, he instead said, "We're not working on Sims 5. We're not thinking about Sims 5. If Sims 4 isn't successful, there won't be a Sims 5." It sounds pretty ominous. But who knows? Maybe he was angry and just being blunt?

I think that the main thing that puts people off buying is the price.

Sims 3 with all its EPs comes to around £300 without the stuff packs, EPs I find more needed with gameplay changes, than more junk to play with. I did get my lot of EPs when on special so was around £150 total but still when you can get other games offering more content for £50 you have Sims at the highest cost to to players (apart from games that require specialist equipment ie flight simulators with real cockpits).

So when Sims 4 comes along and the base game is £10 more than 3. While the game is an improvement, until about 6 EPs in it is an inferior product because too much gets cut out to be released as EPs. We wouldnt stand for it with other games yet EA get away with it. I wouldve paid £100 for Sims 4 base game if it simply kept the gameplay created in prior EPs, with NEW EP types coming out. I had the same issue with sims 3 until you guys released Into the future and I got all the DLC under £10 each.

When you have companies like Bethesda offering "season passes" which are only £20 for ALL DLC they make and promising at least 3 vs Sims with £15+ per DLC. Its easy to see EA need to become more competitive in pricing rather than gouging their consumer base, if EA offered similar at £50 for all DLC promising at least 6 of the standard fare (those they did for 2+3) They would sell a lot of them. Theres also the fact that Sims would not be half the game it is without all the modding community that fix and improve the game (without which Sims 3 with all episodes wouldnt be worth £50)

I for one want Sims 4 after trying it, but I am going to wait until I see it at a reasonable price (£20 and £10 per DLC), and Im someone who has Sims 2 and all EPs, Sims 3 and all EP's.

To the OP, I'm glad you decided to give it a second chance. That was basically me, minus the cleaning the garage, lol. Now after a year into the series, I'm finally enjoying playing and looking forward to the new ep coming in Nov.

    Happy Simming! :)
