Hi Simmers!

Hope you all doing well out there!

I think the current Career system need a Refresh (been there since Sims 1) and wrote down some ideas.

😊 Does it sounds interesting or not? Don’t be shy, I’m interested in what you think! 😊

😊AND FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR IDEAS! 😊

OVERHAUL OF THE CAREER SYSTEM
1. More Freelance careers (Musician / Artist / Caterer / etc)
2. Athletic career changed into Competing careers (Competition & Sponsor gigs!)
3. All NPC-careers as playable careers
4. Restaurant employees as playable careers (+Hire Family members)
5. Multiple Freelance careers at the same time (ex. Actor + Comedian)
6. Freelance careers / 1 Competing career +1 Regular career at the same time
7. Careers having Career Aspirations with Rewards
8. Current Skill Shape info tab on Skills (perform the activity regularly to keep in shape)
9. A career History (see your sims previous careers)
10. Work Reputation on all jobs
11. Select Workplace on careers (ex. an Office) +Work At Prefered Lot job option
12. Regular careers: Salary Levels instead of multiple Career titles
(ex. Employed Musican with Salary levels instead of Professional Pianist => Symphonic String player).
13. NEW LOT CHALLENGE: PICKY LABOR MARKET
-Daily offers on which jobs are available
-CV:s / Job Interviews / Licences for certain jobs
This means: Multiple possibilities to get a certain job! Ex. Skills / Degree / Recommendations / Right connections / Dubious methods ex. Fake Licenses & Bribing / etc.

  • CV:s & CV POINTS ✔️ ❌ LOT CHALLENGE: PICKY LABOR MARKET
Your sims CV will show the total amount of CV points (and where you collected them). Higher score = improves chance of getting the job. Some jobs require higher CV points (Ex. the CEO). Once you get the job, your career works as usual (level up skills for promotion).

    Increase CV points ✔️
    1. Work Reputation (High)
    2. Work Performance (High)
    3. Reputation (High, Get Famous EP)
    4. Fame level (Get Famous EP)
    5. Grades from High school (High)
    6. Completed Career Aspirations
    7. University Degree
    8. Suitable skills (depending on branch)
    9. Previous Careers (Criminal careers not included / Working in similar Careers = Higher points / High-ranking careers = Higher points)
    10. Previous Salary levels
    11. Current Recommendations, Certain sims give Higher points (chance to get Recommended if having a High relationship with earlier Co-worker or CEO / Ask sims to give a recommendation / Bribe sim to give recommendation)

    Decrease CV points
    1. Work Reputation (Low)
    2. Work Performance (Low)
    3. Reputation (Low, Get Famous EP)
    4. Grades from High school (Low)
    5. Demoted / Fired
    6. Dissuasion from other sims (Keep on good foot with the right sims!)
    7. Crimes & Punishment (Repo-man / Caught for a crime & Punished ex. jail)
    8. Worked in Criminal career (or is this a “secret” career?)
  • JOB INTERVIEWS 👨‍💼 LOT CHALLENGE: PICKY LABOR MARKET
Check daily job offers online. Pick a job, get some (optional) Preparatory tasks and a scheduled Job Interview (Sim will be sent to Rabbit Hole). Freelance careers are always available (no need for CV or Job interview).

Increase chance of getting the job:
    1. CV points (High)
    2. High Needs / Confident or Happy / Completed Preparatory tasks
    3. Charisma skill (High)
    4. Relationship with CEO (High)
    5. Bribe the CEO (Higher chance = If high Charisma skill / The CEO has the Materialistic Trait)
  • LICENCES & FAKE LICENCES 📜 LOT CHALLENGE: PICKY LABOR MARKET
    • Some careers needs a LICENCE (Toggle on / off)
    • Sims that have an University Degree can order a LICENCE online (Money fee + Take a test)
    • Different Degrees offer different Licenses: ex. The Biology Degree offer Nurse License & Doctor License.
    • Pay for a Fake LICENCE / Cleaning up your CV but risk of getting caught and punished ex. Jail / Money / Decreased CV points. Lower risk of getting caught if your sim have a High Mischief skill or Working in a Criminal career.
  • SKILLS UPDATE: CURRENT SHAPE & LOSING SKILLS
    • All skills will have a skill Info panel that show Current Skill Shape
    • Not performing a skill for a while = Decrease the Current Skill Shape
    • Very low Current Shape for a longer period of time (We talking age stages!) = risk to lose some skill levels.
    • Current Skill Shape are especially important for some Freelance careers & Competing careers (Musician / Soccer player / Competing Snowboarder / etc).
  • NEW LOT TYPE: WORKPLACE LOT - WORK AT PREFERED LOT
    • New Lot Trait: Workplace (ex. A park / an Office building)
    • Select which Careers that are Linked to the lot.
    • Sims in these Careers will spawn on this lot and work at their work hours. Some sims can spawn after their work hours to work overtime (Higher chance if the sim is: Ambitious / Work alcoholic / Responsible / etc).
    • Select a Workplace for your sim and choose Work At Prefered Lot option when sending your sim to work. This will send the sim to the selcted lot +multiple Daily Tasks to complete

  • FREELANCE CAREERS 🌟
    1. ARTIST 🎨 (Gigs: Painting / Wood working / Sculpting / Glas blowing / etc)
    2. MUSCIAN 🎙️ (Gigs: Singing / DJ / Drums / Saxophone / etc)
    3. COMPOSER 🎼 (Gigs: Music production skill / Composing skill)
    4. ENTERTAINER 🤡 (Gigs: Comedy)
    5. CATERER 🥘 (Gigs: Find out customer’s wishes / Kind of event / Allergies / Favorite Food & Drink / Theme. Prepare food at home & take to Rabbit hole / Prepare food at a Party / Event)
    6. PHOTOGRAPHER 📷 (Gigs: Family photos / Nature photos ex. Take a photo of a Fox fighting a Bunny).
    7. OUTDOOR SPORT INSTRUCTOR 🥾 (Gigs: Skiing / Snowboarding / Fishing / Hiking / etc)
    8. FREELANCE JOURNALIST 📰 (Gigs: Interview Celebrity / Investigating reportage / Review new Movie = Functional Rabbit Hole Cinema / Travel Reportage = Travel + Perform activities + Meet locals + Taste local Food & Drinks / etc)
    +All current Freelance careers
  • COMPETING CAREERS & SPONSOR GIGS 💪 (Overhaul of the Athlete career!)
SOCCER PLAYER / 🏀 BASKETBALL PLAYER
    • 1 Rabbit Hole Stadium (visitable) + 2 Rival Soccer Teams+ 2 Rival Basket Teams 🏀
    • Sims need to show of their ability (go to Rabbit hole, similar to Job interviews) to get the job
    • Match every Saturday + weekly Tasks (improve chances of winning).
    • Improved pop-ups (To much random result! To less visuals! The pop-up Doesn’t show what sim it affects!).
    • Increase chance of winning: Completed weekly tasks / Mood / Injuries / Skill level / Current skill shape / Team relationships / Training sessions.

    Salary: Money + Fame
Only payment for completed Matches (depending on the result). Higher Career level = Higher Payment.
    Career Levels: 1-5+
Weekly Tasks: Work out 1 hour for 5 days / Stretch / Get a massage / Visit Hospital and get treatment (Visitable Hospitals)

    💪 BODYBUILDER / 💻 E-SPORT GAMER / ⛷️ PROFESSIONAL SKIIER / 🏂🏿 PROFESSIONAL SNOWBOARDER / 🏊🏽 PROFESSIONAL SWIMMER / ⛸️ PROFESSIONAL ICE SKATER
    • All of above skills added as separate skills (ex. Swimming / Skating / etc) . Most Fitness skills (ex. Swimming) also level up Fitness.

    Salary: Money + Fame
Only payment for completed Competitions (depending on the result). Higher Difficulty level on Competition = Higher Payment.
    Career Levels: 1-5+
Competitions: (Various of Gigs on your chosen skill, 3 Difficulty levels: Easy / Medium / Hard)

    SPONSOR GIGS
Sims can do Sponsor Gigs from a Career level 2+. This will give sims an income between Matches / Competitions. Sponsor gigs can decrease / increase a Sims Work Reputation / Reputation / Fame / Relationsships.

Sponsor Gigs: Wear an (ridiculous) outfit in a Public area / TV advertisement / Publish a Simsta story or Blog post / Take photo wearing a certain outfit / Take a photo Eating or Drinking specific things / Record a video when using an item +publish / Attend event / Attend location (ex. specific bar) multiple times

I started a whole thread on game development. This ties in with the programming/Tech Guru stuff.

Posted in the thread, but I just wanna say: Like the idea! Things like that would give more creativity to careers!

I wouldn't mind if existing careers were to get some love in the parts that don't currently work well, but I don't have interest in anything nearly so detailed as the description in the top post. I only occasionally play careers at all with my sims because sim careers are not why I play this game in the first place.
FYI: Just because you can see my signature, don't assume that I can see yours.
Because I can't; I keep all sigs turned off. ;)

Some things yes, some things no. I don't really want to do the CV and interview part every time I need a new job and I, quite frankly, sometimes cannot be bothered with active careers. So super tedious things I want to avoid, but if they were implemented in an accessible manner I would not necessarily mind. Then again, I also have a history with the career friendship requirement mechanics and kind of despise them independently. I would have to see the details, more or less. This all being said, 4's career system could indeed use more depth and always could use more options.

I specifically want to be able to assign Sims to/actively control Sims in NPC jobs in retail and restaurants like with vet clinics. If I can assign more, even better. I also want to get rid of the arbitrary branching barriers. If my Sims want to have both the chef and mixologist branches under their belts, they should be allowed to. Career aspirations are an interesting idea because some aspirations do involve that, but it is generally not that fulfilling to climb to the top of the career ladder in 4. I do think there needs to be more incentives to it, but I am not sure if having an aspiration for every career is the right way to go even if it worked in 3. Career traits might have to be the thing that makes playing renaissance Sims special.

Something I do not want is to take away careers. For example, I do not mind entertainers getting freelance elements or a freelance equivalent, but do not take away the standardized path either. One of interesting things about careers is that there can be so many different variations and paths, so I would want to avoid stripping any of variation it already has.

Honestly not much of a career payer but this really does sound awesome! I love the thought you always put into your ideas and the way or color and organize it. It's a YES from me.

Although on a side note everyone wants EVERYTHING refreshed now🤭🤭 I could be wrong but I doubt they would go and refresh the entire game and all 40 packs AND for free lol
Zombies, oh please oh please give us zombies!! :'(

My guess is they refresh things based on popularity. What do people want refreshed the most?

Dine Out seems to be majority opinion. At least the vocal majority. I am not so convinced it is based on popularity, though. The new content schedule never really seemed super based on popular opinion, even if you argue they eventually got around to this or that. I certainly do not think popularity explains why Spa Day specifically was chosen. The live stream only mentioned its age as a factor, but there was no explanation for the full decision process.

Personally a C&D refresh would make my month, perhaps my game, but I am probably in the minority.

The Scientist Career in Get To Work needs to be refreshed so that we can play the Scientist going to work in the Secret Lab in Strangerville. It only has the poor civilians doing that. It's about time for the Scientists to do that. Also, I think the Scientist should be able to turn the tables on those mean Aliens that keep getting our abducted males pregnant. Just a thought. ;):p

Too complicated for my style of gameplay. Careers are just a way of earning Simoleons for most of my Sims and I don't want to stress about them.

I am not interested in how you are describing it. Fixing many of the careers for me would be to have more that do not involve needing an electronic device at any point in the career.

Perhaps it could be a toggle for this? Or as @Calico45 stated, keep the old careers. They could just add new ones that are in their own "advanced" category.

@Gamer_34567544 Yeah that’s a good idea! Maybe they could make it into a new Lot Challenge:

    PICKY LABOR MARKET
-Daily offers on which jobs are available
    -CV:s / Job Interviews / Licences

Was going to vote "Maybe", but the Lot Challenge idea won me over.

Additionally I'd want the game to take into account which of my played sims is where on the career track. For example a sims applying for a job in customer support (Tech Guru) or basic office work (Corporate Drone or whatever the career from Snowy escape is called) should have to face one of my own CEOs (from the Business career) in a job interview.

I'd also love to define companies that in turn hire sims from different careers. For example one low level Tech Guru might work for "CyberLife" with a played Personnel Manager, while another low level Tech Guru might work for "Generic electronics company" where the manager is an npc. Freelancers could be loosely associated with a company if they so desire. I already keep track of such things with the club system, but having my headcanon made real in the game would be the icing on that cake.

    @Calico45
Yeah I agree all branches should be available.
But I would love to see more freedom in the career titles (to limiting).
Ex. Played my Flamenco Guitarist sim the other day. She works in the Entertainer career and got promoted to Professional Pianist. 😓 That really breaks the story, I would prefer if there was more neutral career titles / Freedom of the required skill (optional instrument).

Maybe they can add a Freelance Musician + A regular career called Employed Musician? (level up optional instrument to get promoted)

And also: Agree that C&D need a refresh! (I don’t think you are a minority on that, if packs like Dine out / OD was fixed, we would probably hear more requests on C&D).
Do you have any ideas on a C&D Refresh? I can’t find a thread on it.

Hehe yeah Refresh is really trending right now. 😅 But Sims 4 an old game, maybe it’s having a middle aged crisis and want some new perspectives (Sims 4 would probably buy a new red sport car for their 7th birthday if there was any cars in the game... hehe) 😁🚗

Im particularly loving the "Picky Job Market" lot challenge.

I'd like my sims to actually EARN those high paying careers, rather than just play chess for an hour and all of a sudden they're qualified to become a general practitioner at the hospital. No career progression whatsoever until your sim goes to school and earns their degree. And with interviews, you know how if you dont get hired the manager says "we have your resume on file, so try again in 6months" or whatever? What if you can't re-apply for that same job for a week? In that time if your sim resends their resume and works on their skills, then maybe they'll get the job?

And since alot of jobs these days tend to be more "who you know", what if you're talking to a sim that works in the same career that you're trying to get into? Perhaps with a high enough friendship, you can ask them to "put in a good word for you" (this interaction is only available if your sim is still waiting to hear the results from the interview ) and boost your chances at getting employed?

I don't think you would have to get a degree, per se. Some people go into fields self-taught. If you need more education, the workplaces may pay for you to have it.

Not really interested in job interviews and such, but I'd love more options for employment. As of now I mainly skip the original careers that can't be worked from home because they feel so pointless unless you just want to get rid of your sim for a large chunk of the day. I'd like to see work from home or freelance options for most of them, especially for the criminal and entertainer careers.

I'm also interested in decaying skills, but I agree there should be a way of negating it for those who don't want it, be it a reward trait or a toggle.

As for aspirations for every career, I personally would love it, but I acknowledge that it would be a lot of new choices to have to sift through. It's always bothered me that a handful of the aspirations require a specific job to complete them, so what I propose is a new separate category be created for job related aspirations. That way we could choose two aspirations for our sims, one relating to a job and the other for non job related goals. Again, the job related aspiration should be optional or there should be a unemployed aspiration for those who don't want their sim to pursue a career.

@RememberJoy That's a good point, Career aspiration need to be separate to Sims Aspirations. Maybe tied to the career and viable in the career tab. 🤔 And I wouldn’t mind some new Reward traits (like No skill Decaying), omg you get so much satisfaction points from completing Holidays, Idk what to spend them on. 😅 Freelance Criminal career sounds awesome! Maybe something for an Burglar update 😏.

I do not mind refreshes as long as they are fruitful and really add to the game by fixing majority of the bugs and tweaking some of the careers like the nursing career which for me is dull and so repetitive. Also ensure the AI is doing their job and not just my Sim which does it all while most of the staff look like they are out to lunch most of the time.
