A busy next 6 months for future DLC

«13
As we have always had $120 of DLC per year (1st April -31st March) and this year we have only had $40 (Seasons) how do you think they will do the remaining $80 over the next 6 months. Or do you think EA may allow them to reduce their output. (doesn't seem likely).

Well if Stuffpacks are done expect far less. Hopefully more Gamepacks and Expansions and of course free content thru patches.

I doubt it. They'll most likely remain at the level their on in the US. I can't see Gamepacks and Expansions suddley going up atleast in the US. Not sure about other countries.

Hopefully another expansion pack, a game pack or two and/ or a couple of stuff packs. I actually like stuff packs, Besides at least one main item we also get hair styles, clothes and a variety of furniture.. I have enjoyed most all of the stuff packs, most of them have at least one or two items I use often like the buffet table, ice cream maker and hot tub. I also thought the kids room pack with the void critters and the furniture in the movie pack were great.i haven’t use the my first pet stuff yet, but I think that will end up a favorite too. I wish we could get some more small pet stuff like lizards, rabbits and birds. And be able to sell cats and dogs for sale in a pet store, like they did in the sims 2 I believe (might have been 1). I would love to get some romantic stuff, some casino stuff, and more arcade stuff.

I think that will be another expansion coming later this year. Either late November or late December. And I think that either a stuff pack or game back before then. At least i'm hoping.

Two packs? That would be great.

A return to the 2 EPs a year model would be good news to me. Sims 3 kind of went overboard with releasing EPs just a few weeks apart, and by the end the whole game was pretty unstable. Although Sims 4 has a lot of issues as well, but so far it doesn't crash as often.

Edit: The "few weeks apart" part was already discussed, people. No need to beat a dead horse.

Some deny Sims 3 had 2 EP’s a year, but this is exaggerating in the other direction :D

What about Sims 3 Seasons and Supernatural?

Apparently they're around 2 months apart, which is still a small gap between EPs

Yes, it was, but a few weeks sounded a bit strong to me ;) (those two were closest) Which doesn’t mean I don’t agree EP’s started to come out a bit too fast for me at one point; I installed them and then they’d have to wait for a bit.

Fair enough. Honestly I wasn't keen on Supernatural and didn't buy it on release, so I only vaguely remember it coming out shortly before Seasons :grimace:

The better gage is calendar year, not price - which would vary with what sort of pack was issued. Looking at that gage, we get one more this year for the Q4 shopping season. If the established since 2015 pattern holds, we get 4 packs in CY 2019. BTW, Maxis/EA does not have to do anything other than what they have said they will do. What we want/fantasize over is of no concern to them, only what feeds the bottom line for the next month's financials.

If all they are really concerned about is what feeds the bottom line, then what we want/fantasize over is of a great concern. If they don't fulfill our wants/fantasies, they won't achieve that bottom line. You can't ignore your customers and just pump out content regardless of whether or not it's what the players want. If you're not getting content you want, that's unfortunate, but don't lump everyone else into your unhappy situation. Some of us are happy and are getting what we want.

You mean Early Dec? Late Dec would fall after the holiday season.

Seeing that two major wants - a thorough delousing of the game and adequate builders tools per prior versions - have been resolutely not met since launching, I'd say they have their own agenda for what is to be made for this game, and if something happens to match our desires all well and good. The player base is much larger than the number of forum residents, so their focus will be on the silent majority, putting out what market research points to as being profitable. The last thing they issued that really responded to us was toddlers. How many years ago was that? How long and intense was that fight? Let's not forget that the target group is early teen females, likely sliding over a bit to late pre-teen. What they want in a game will differ from what a seasoned adult Sims player does. I've been on the finance side of the business world too long to be hopeful things will change any time soon.

Building tools from past games are not possible in 4 because of the game engine. The world environment is a flat surface and is not written to allow changes in elevation so terrain tools, swimmable oceans, multi level foundations, snow depth and split level stairs are just not going to happen unless they change the engine entirely. Stairs in the game are really just an object to simulate the effect of multiple “levels” but the 2nd floor is really on the same plane as the 1st floor. They managed to patch in pools but that’s about it. I’d be very surprised if they made any new large scale features for build mode because of how limited the engine is.

The gurus have said that most bugs from past packs are not prioritized for patches. That’s why so many of them have stuck around despite widespread customer feedback. SimGuruKate herself said certain bugs will never be fixed. Making new content (and making new money) will always be the studios priority over fixing old issues for products people have already bought.

Even official Gurus deny we ever got 3 EP per year ;)

I don't really see a problem with many EPs though. If the quality drops and it's just about quantity then yes, it's definitely a problem. But if the quality is good then no one forces people to immediately buy them at release day. Sims is not a game where you need a headstart to avoid as many spoilers as possible. Just take your time with the game.

Exactly. I did buy them all on release date btw, installed them and then continued with the story I was playing at the time. And the new EP I'd start exploring as soon as I started the next generation. And by now, years later, all those EP's together are a broad source of inspiration to pick ideas from. It's probably the cause why I sometimes don't even know what feature came with what EP.

Seasons and Supernatural were only 2 months apart -- that's pretty close. Exaggeration is a common rhetorical device. "I've told you a million times to stop exaggerating!" :D And it looks like in 2012 and 2013 we did get 3 EPs in a year, but that might have been about the time they wanted to clear the decks to work on features for Sims 4 (remember ITF had hints about Sims 4 in that crashed spaceship in the furure desert).
