To be fair, a lot of things in that trailer weren't present in base TS2. Ceilings, ceiling fans, fire breathing, clothes as items instead of just meshes on sims, etc.
TS2 is still awesome, though.

What The Sims should be and always has been about....
It will never be anything else regardless of social trends therefore attempts to deviate from the original vision will result in complete destruction of the product:

"Video gaming began as an engineer's hobby and a means of creative expression for those of higher technical inclination. It is expected that those who are capable of higher engineering-related achievements will see value, in electronic entertainment products, where others see failure." -Sasquatch
When I watch that trailer I get this awesome feeling, same as I did when I first watched it. It's a bit sad that when I compare to seeing the Sims 4 trailer at the end my thought was, meh..
There's a definite change, at leas to me with this iteration.
I think people here dont realize what they think is the franchise is supposed to be is actually far different from what Will Wright intended it to be. It's heading in the exact direction he always intended for the sims.
@Simanite I loved that was too. Every time I would hear those plumbobs popping at the start I still get as happy as a kid at Christmas. To me that sound means happiness, possibilities and big families

Not sure what your point is?
The Sims 1 was bound by the technology of that era, which would, of course, directly influence Will Wright's original vision. You can only create what the current technology allows.
Will Wright and his developers listened to the fans of their game and tried to give them what they wanted. They evolved the game from the original doll house idea by adding expansions which added gameplay outside of the house.
Didn't he also work on The Sims 2? - the pinnacle of what many think the series should aspire to.
Intentions obviously change based on various factors and his must have because The Sims 2 added swathes of family content. If he did not intend to evolve his game into a life simulator, he would not have done that with The Sims 2.
Furthermore, he no longer works on the game and from my knowledge doesn't even comment on it publicly. His original intentions do not matter one bit. They are irrelevant and should not be used to support your defence of The Sims 4's direction.
I love the Sims 4 game. I feel like I can play a happy and fulfilling family IF I start with the kids in CAS. But I can't make those kids grow up and start their own families, I can't see their kids start off by crawling around on the floor.

I think he means this weirdness. Poor Will Wright has gone through the rabbit hole and gotten lost.

Same here. If EA could just take TS2 and give it an updated look I would totally buy it again.
ETA:
thankfully I still have mine. it's a 12 year old game and still has dedicated fans, I have to wonder if the same will be said for ts4 .

lol that is so odd, I don't get it.
"You will be quantified far more than any sim ever was, which is why I think it is really a rich platform for gaming." - Will Wright
Yeah, maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't want to be quantified, my life isn't a game lol.
