Can't place Wedding Cakes on displays..

«1
GoodywoodGoodywood Posts: 4,618 Member
So I build a bakery and I really want to display the wedding cakes from buymode, but for some reason the game won't let me put wedding cakes in the displays. :'(

I have Deliciously Indulgent Bakery and I can't even put the cake in the display that comes with that set. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to actually have my sim bake it from scratch enable to place it on the displays?

Thank you! <3

I didn't even know buydebug had wedding cakes :o But yeah, maybe it only works when they bake them themselves, which is kind of odd. I always hire a genie when I want to fill up my bakery real fast :p

In fact I don't think running a bakery without a genie will be fun for me, because it will mean constant baking and that's just a grind gameplay wise.

Hey @JoAnne65 o:) Thank you for replying. I tend to kill threads, especially my own. LOL

The cakes are in Buymode > Entertainment > Parties - no debug needed. :p

So you can't place it inside the display but on top? Okay. I wonder if you can place them on other displays like Ambition's displays.

And how does the Genie help? I have to try this. o:)

Oh, I forgot about that one haha. That's a different wedding cake than this one though isn't it..? Maybe it won't work because that one is basegame? I'd have to try by ordering that genie to deliver that cake. Genies are helpful here because one of their powers is to pick any kind of food the game has (this includes from every EP and Store item you have installed) out of thin air in five seconds ;) (except ambrosia)
You can also put it on a table, which can look pretty nice too in a bakery (and that's definitely possible with the buy mode wedding cake as well).

Edit: it might be possible to put the cake inside the display as well by the way, but it's too high so that looks off. It clips through the shelf above it.

    @JoAnne65

Oh ok, I see. I might use the genie then. :D

Okay, thank you. *hugs* I love how warm your bakery looks. <3

I think all the special cakes are in buymode. I see 3 wedding cakes (Gen MV and Deliciously Indulgent's).

Thanks, it's really great fun building bakeries ;) (the first one is the default one from the Store btw) I combined it with the tea set in the second one. Haven't played it yet but I hope it will give a real tea room feeling when I put it in my game :)

The shopping mall, when is it ready? I'm still waiting! (Now I have the bakery...)

I think wedding cakes have to be placed on tables, not counters/displays.

You can put them on the display, see first pic.
@GITTE2001 Off topic, yeah, sorry, it sort of stopped after I had participated in the contest. It's nearly done!

@Goodywood Try placing the cake on the stand in buy mode, with "moveobjects on" (cheat). I tried to use a stand for the cake at a wedding once, went with a table instead.. Of course I didn't know about the "moveobjects" cheat at the time. Hope this helps. ANd I just realized you meant IN the display, not on a display (like the display blocks).. so that might not even work.. But I hope it does.

I've only been able to place the wedding cakes on top of the display case, I think they are too high to go inside.

Wedding cakes can only go on top, as they are too tall for the inside shelves. You can put other cakes and baked good inside the displays.

I'm not on the page list, but hope it's okay if I answer anyway. The problem with running a business at home is that no one in town can see inside of your home lot so they will not know you have a cash register (bakery display, stylist chair, bistro, bar, whatever it is you are working with) unless/until they are lot greeted and invited inside first. Even if the items are out on your front lawn. This means that in order for such a business to ever attract any customers, you must
--invite all of your potential customers over personally first (kind of awkward, usually)
--throw lots of parties, then your party guests can be your potential customers
--use a modded device that pulls sims onto your home lot and automatically "greets" them for you
    http://www.simlogical.com/ContentUploadsRemote/uploads/1078

None of that means the potential customers will actually buy anything, though. You may actually end up with batches of invited over guests watching your sims' television and playing games on their computers instead. :)

Another approach is to actually live on a Commercial lot, then you don't have to worry about sims not knowing your business is there. But both of the two ways this is possible require some mods.

--Purchase a Commercial lot and use Buzzler's Build/Buy (Stopper) mod to be able to add things you need to have around you like beds, kitchen appliances, etc. Technically you still "live" at home on a Residential lot, Go Home and resets will send you there, that's where your mail and other services are delivered, but you can have some or all of your sims spend all or most of their time on the Commercial one. The Residential lot that is really home could be a 10x10 located very close to the Commercial one with nothing on it but a mailbox and trash can if you prefer.
    http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=450059

--Use NRaas MasterController's AddSim command to add your sim or household to the Commercial lot. Then it becomes their home lot. Downside here is that you will have no mailbox but will still be obligated to pay bills, so you will need either the No Bills LTR or StoryProgression Money to allow for Automated Billing without writing checks. You will also not be able to receive other things that routinely go through the game's mail system.

Note that either way if the lot is a venue with a closing hour, your sims will be shoved outside along with everyone else when closing time comes, but then you can go back inside since you own the place. Kind of intrusive if it's 3am and your sims were sleeping, though.

It's not perfect either way, it's like the game fights back against creative entrepreneurial activities like these. But it is possible to do. :)

Of course! Please do reply. I need the help! lol

Thank you for this. I did what you said. I made a 5 x 5 lot (using AnyLotSize Mod) and moved it real close to the commercial lot (its basically in the backyard). I didn't need the mod to have a bed on the lot, probly because it was a residential lot at first and I switched it. I do however need that mod to lock the doors so the customers don't go into my Sim's bedroom and kitchen.

    Thank you! @igazor *hugs*

Oh and I was able to download some OMSP to put my cakes on the pedestal displays from AMB ep.

I used this one ever since you recommend it last time. It works for my "Saloon", with the bar and casino games on the ground floor, and the beds on the second floor. I set it to six people maximum at at time to limit lag, and it works pretty well for me.
The lot is still set as residential.

I think I need the mods as you said @igazor . The lot kicked me out but I wasn't able to get back in.

Also I tried to use MC Add Sim but it's a bit confusing.

    (I'm downloading the mods now.)

Cute lot Kevin. Are you playing in Appaloosa Plains?

On City Hall or an in-game computer, NRaas > MC > Settings > Allow Add Sim on Community Lots > True (default is False).
On the lot you want them added to, NRaas > MC > Add Sim > (use the filter for Active Sim or X to dismiss it and choose someone else).

Regarding bakeries, I know with the Savvy Seller it's broken, as the objects don't leave when you sell them and you end up making unlimited money.

Is the Bakery the same? Or do Customers actually take the product so you can replace them?

    Thanks.

It's part of a mall I'm creating (inspired by people here by the way) and yes, when it's ready I can put it on the Exchange. i'll notify you. It's loaded with Store stuff, hope you have that.

Igazor answered your question better than I ever could I see OP ;) ; I'm about to start a shop at home in Sims 2 btw, real curious if it will be as fun as everyone says. In Sims 3 for me it's rather disappointing I must say. I love to create shops (and that mall), but playing them hasn't really worked for me so far. What I really liked so far, building the mall, is that townies are really spawning from everywhere from the very moment I started building. Had to build a wall around it in order to prevent them to buy all my pies beforehand :D Hope you'll share pictures of your bakery when it's done!

With the bakery it's different, the pies are really sold (and disappearing) so you'll have to continue baking.

Afraid I can't speak to the Savvy Seller glitch, but the sold items do not persist with bakeries. Sadly though, the EA way the inactive sims purchasing baked goods don't get to keep them either, they just disappear into thin air as do all such retail items (not through Savvy Seller) in an unmodded game, apparently. By the game's standard, inactive sims shop to provide relief for fun, not hunger or the actual need to own these things. In the case of bakeries, some do claim this was a good idea on EA's part to reduce inventory clutter and prevent food items from spoiling while inactives carry them around. But some of us disagree.

With mods from the likes of Ani (hosted on our site) and version 6 of NRaas Cupcake currently in beta testing, inactive sims will keep what they purchase and eat it when they are hungry, assuming it's actually food; this version of Cupcake also allows for the sale of single serving portions.
    http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Cupcake+Testing

What really makes Cupcake worthwhile to many of us though, is its ability to auto-restock displays with any kind of food that we specify. Not so much to cheat ones way through running a business without actually cooking/baking anything though you can do that too, but to be a fun place to eat as customers when the player doesn't actually own the place. I've got pizza displays, salads/sandwiches emulating a deli over my bowling alleys, snacks and goodies for sale in the lobby of a cinema, etc. Keep meaning to do up an entire food court one of these days.
