I don't know about other players but I have always wanted my Sims to branch out in their careers into a defined speciality.

Intead of a Sim in the Education career simply going up the rungs of a ladder to get to Dean or something..I would want them to branch out into, I don't know..a field, a Professor of... etc.

Instead of my Sim just in the 'medical' field..I wanted them to be able to branch out into a speciality such as Neurosurgeon...etc.

Or entering the field as a vet..but two types, large animals and or small and domestic.

With each career, most do have some speciality and it always bothered me inorder to fill their aspiration or just to get to the top I only had one choice...at the top..but there are many branches and those should be added for me to choose which field I want my Sim to continue in for the rest of their days.

There are many types surgeons, you know, and people do become top in their field..and there are many types of writers..nonfiction, and fiction..even pulp fiction...even 'paperback' writers.

There are many type journalists...photo journalism isn't the same as the other.

There are many type pathologists, many branches of law enforcement..and to me..I think players should have to choose when they get to the forks in the road of a career if they want to continue to become a Professor (of what?) and or continue on until they reach dean status etc.

The Sims' games have more or less combined everything they can throw in to one type career but I would really like to see all these branch off into other areas and allow the Sim and player to remain in their chosen path..which may or not be at the top..and or may be a totally different 'speciality' in medicine etc.

Example: If I need a foot doctor (a speciality) I wouldn't call a brain surgeon. :-)

If I need a vet for my cattle I wouldn't call the office vet down the street that usually just deals with small pets/cats and dogs.

ETA: Law Career: many different 'special' lawyers..divorce lawyer, trial lawyer, wills and estate lawyers, realistate lawyers...instead of just playing as we have in the past...choose the speciality and each branch brings different skills and or things that have to be done inorder to pass the bar etc..

Just being a jack of all trades in each career..was a nurse, then became an intern etc, then a doctor...but a doctor of what?

I agree. I would love to see all careers branch of in the game into numerous different fields. Here's how I'd envision the main careers from The Sims 3 branch out.

Business (and Marketing):
1. Advertising Branch: Your Sim would be assigned with coming up with advertising campaigns, doing field research, presentations etc.
2. Corporate Branch: Your Sim would be assigned with making business investments and trying to improve on various businesses over a period of time.
3. Product Manufacturing Branch: This wouldn't necessarily be a career with 10 levels but a job with 5. These Sims will manufature various products that the company is trying to sell.
4. Shareholder: Not necessarily a career but an acknowledgement that your Sim owns or owns shares in various businesses around town.

Criminal:
1. Evil Branch: Your Sim will attempt to take over the world by any means necessary. There's a lot of creative elements that could be brought into both branches of the Criminal career. I see the Evil branch of the Criminal career branching off into the Science career. Give us the ability to make the stereotypical mad scientist that can breed or control the creation of an army of robots for example.
2. Thief Branch: Your Sim would be assigned with stealing from various locations around the world and also stealing money from other businesses. It can crossover with the Business career for more dodgy business dealings.
3. Manufacturing Branch: Your Sim would manufacture certain illicit materials. Naturally in The Sims happy and relatively child-friendly universe, the developers should use their wit and creativity here.

Culinary:
1. Chef Branch: Your Sim will work at a fancy restaurant or bistro. They can choose a speciality food to sell at their restaurant and will generally cook and prepare expensive food.
2. Fast Food Branch: Your Sim would eventually reach the top of this branch and become the Head of a Fast Food Empire. While they won't necessarily receive the same level of reverence as a proper chef, they can make management decisions or come up with the newest gimmick used to sell fast food.
3. Baker Branch: Your Sim can make baked goods and sell them from their bakery.
4. Services Branch: This wouldn't necessarily be a career with 10 levels but a job with 5. These jobs will include seating customers, serving them and acting as waiters/waitresses.

Journalism (and Media):
1. News Branch: Your Sims will report on serious news at the local newspaper and can eventually move on to television or radio when they go higher in their careers.
2. Entertainment Branch: These Sims will will write light journalism such as reviewing movies, writing about fashion and acting as food critics. Eventually, they can go on to present their own television/radio shows which could be anything from celebrity gossip to a gameshow.
3. Photojournalism Branch: This wouldn't necessarily be a career with 10 levels but a job with 5. Your Sim would document events around town through photography.
4. Paparazzi Branch: This wouldn't necessarily be a career with 10 levels but a job with 5. On the other end of the photojournalism spectrum, your Sim's job would be to go around taking pictures of celebrities in town (and before people shout at me...let's hope the celebrity system is vastly improved in The Sims 4).

Law Enforcement:
1. Police Branch: Your Sims will be in charge of dealing with the various crimes about town and may then become a secret agent when they reach the top of the career.
2. Investigator Branch: Your Sim would go around town trying to solve various mysteries.

Medicine:
1. General Practitioner Branch: Your Sims will be in charge of administering flu shots and examining patients.
2. Surgeon Branch: Your Sim will operate on other Sims if they gain some form of disease (and here is where I now feel that The Sims 4 should have a number of comical made-up diseases with only a small chance of them being fatal if they don't get it taken care of within a certain time period).
3. Nurse Branch: Your Sim will take care of patients and deliver babies.
4. Dentist Branch: We all have to go to the dentist. Dentists will check Sim's teeth, maybe put braces on our teen Sims.

Military:
1. Combat Branch: Obviously war is a touchy subject so how about creating an evil race of aliens that are threatening the land of SimNation. Keep things comedic of course. Sims in the combat branch can train to fight off this potential threat.
2. Air Force Branch: A similar idea but this time you're fighting from the air in jets.
3. Nautical Branch: Same as above but from the sea.

Music:
1. Composer Branch: Your Sim can compose an orchestra and even sell of their music to various film or advertising companies.
2. Musician Branch: Your Sim can be an all round singer and instrumentalist and play concerts. They can be a solo lead singer and instrumentalist or part of a band. There should be Showtime crossover elements.
3. Singer Branch: Your Sim just needs to be a good singer and think of ways to be marketable to audiences. May learn instrument to earn credibility.
4. Music Producer Branch: Your Sim can produce music and become a top music producer.

Politics (renamed to Government):
1. Electorate Branch: Your Sim hopes to climb the political ladder, get elected and become leader of the town.
2. Legislator Branch: Your Sim is in charge of allowing certain legislation around town. Some of these legislations will have to be run by the Sim at the top of the electorate branch.
3. Lawyer Branch: Your Sim will attend court, defend clients and do a whole lot of paperwork.

Professional Sports:
1. Sports Agent Branch: Your Sim will manage a sports team, coach them and try to promote them.
2. Athlete Branch: Your Sim would play a professional sport in a designated area.
3. Physiotherapist Branch: Your Sim will take care of the physical needs of athletes and make sure they are in good health while also doing exercises with them.

Science:
1. Biology Branch: Your Sim will work on biology related experiments.
2. Chemistry Branch: Your Sim will work on chemistry related experiments.
3. Physics Branch: Your Sim will study physics based areas of science.

I really want careers and education in The Sims 4 to play a much larger role than they've played in the other three games. Career and school is such a big part of our Sims' lives, heck it's a big part of our own too. The fact that we've only had a very limited view of what our Sims have done so far at the workplace and university is something that's always disappointed me a bit about The Sims games.

Careers need to be more complex. Not only should there be the above branching careers like I left up there but careers should interact with other careers. For example, a Sim in the business career should have the opportunity to transition into the Thief Branch of the Criminal career if they exchange dodgy dealings with a less than savoury Sim. Or vice versa, a Sim in the Criminal career may discover that they have a chance at a better life in the Corporate branch of the Business career.

Also give us little options within these branches. With the Corporate Branch of the Business career, allow us to choose what products that business is selling...general supplies or specific products like electronics, pharmaceuticals, clothing, food. In the Physics branch of the Science career, allow things like astronomy or geology. In the Chef branch of the culinary career, allow the Sim to specialise in cooking general food or examples such as vegeterian cuisine, Italian cuisine, Chinese cuisine. Similarly with the Fast Food branch, give us the option of being a burger joint, a pizza joint or a chicken joint as examples.

Professional Sports and Music are ones with lots of options. In Professional Sports, allow your Sim to be a professional athlete in baseball, basketball, football, tennis, soccer, raquetball, volleyball, rugby, lacrosse and cricket. Other options would be boxer, kickboxer, martial artist, gymnast, cyclist, golfer and runner. Maybe even professional pool or darts player or a racecar driver. In terms of the Music career, your Sim can be an all round virtuoso or a singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer, pianist, classical string instrument player (cello, violin) or brass instrument player (tuba, tromobone, trumpet, saxophone) and can choose to go solo or be in a band or orchestra. There is so much potential with these careers. Sims could be able to flit back and forth between some careers. I was thinking in terms of Music and it's overall placement in the Entertainment area, your musician Sim could try and make something of an acting career for themselves in the Film Career, á la Justin Timberlake and Barbara Streisand. Maybe when they reach a certain level, they can do this.

Also I would like the Services jobs to be open to average Sims. All businesses in town should have someone they can employ to act as a caterer, maid/cleaner, maintenance person, delivery person, driver or gardener with the option for all of these services to be available as self-employed careers. And also the option for promotions, maybe I'm happy with my Sim being a humble Vice-President as opposed to Leader of the Free World. Allow us to the option to stay at such a level and get the occasional raise at that level if our Sim continues doing a good job. Anyway, that's my very long two cents on the topic!

It would be great to have this. It would reflect a sim's personality better this way.

I think we need different types of career because the branches miss so much out, what about a sim becoming a postman, cleaner, delivery driver and making each career playable like the ones in the job sector, they get boring because theres so little to choose from.
