Outdoor Retreat - kinda skinny?

«1
Like many it seems I was holding out for the first expansion to 'bulk out' the game a bit having become bored of the base game, and frankly expected a 'Seasons' or 'Generations' expansion that would be a real shot in the arm for my gameplay.

But what is this?
Not an expansion, it's a 'Gamepack'.
Kinda like World Adventures...
Nowhere near as big and only one destination which seems to be a 'camping lot'.

I wasn't expecting this, and frankly was not crying out 'god if only sims could go camping'.

I just think it's a real shame that the first DLC will be so 'skinny'. Something that will have so little 'impact' on my game. It seems more like a set from the TS3 Store than the 'impact' that Seasons or Generations made, both of which seriously expanded what we could do, activities, build stuff and lots and lots of stuff for the house.

I don't know, just really 'underwhelmed!

If the rumors of the cost is true, it's almost the cost of Sims 3 expansions when they were new. And if that is indeed true, I will be ever so annoyed.

Of course it's not a Expansion Pack, but it is something. I've read that it's bigger than a stuff pack, but smaller than an expansion at the cost of a stuff pack ($20?). EA isn't forcing you to buy anything, but I do agree that a expansion is needed since the game tends to get boring after awhile. ;)

It's a new type of way of expanding game play -- Game Packs fall somewhere between Stuff Packs and Expansions on the playability scale. It's a way to add new features to the game for themes that don't really warrant a full-blown expansion, but that are more in depth than is covered in a Stuff pack which is basically just, well, stuff. We got that to a certain extent with the Sims 3 Store but in that case they were called Venues and Store Worlds. Worlds from the Sims 3 Store cost close to $20 (US), but they didn't offer near as many game play opportunities as this pack does (new collection opportunities, new interactions, a new career just for starters). And existing Sims will be able to take advantage of the new world without having to move them and lose relationships and such the way it was in Sims 3.

Interested to see what direction they go with the GPs, and what sort of themes get reserved for expansions -- I'd assume big ticket items like University, Seasons, maybe even Pets would be in an expansion, maybe even something to do with magic (I do miss my witches!), while some of the smaller ideas like amusement parks/carnivals, farm life, maybe even an entertainment pack or OFB type pack would be more in the Game Pack category.

I think the cost reaction is different whether you're in the US or the UK. Hopefully the £19.99 is a typo. I think $20 is too much, but I think £20 is a whole different category of too much.

Edit Skyrim Hearthfire DLC was $5. It added 3 new areas, new quests, new gameplay, etc. It seems that Sims DLC, judging by what people paid in Sims 3 (I always waited for huge sales), has always been quite a bit more than most games.

It's to early to be talking about this since they have just officially announced it today. But they did say that they will be releasing more info on the pack in January. This post should have waited until then. :)

Actually it's more like the cost of a stuff pack which just had stuff without additional game play. It seems to be replacing the Store Worlds and Venues from the Sims 3 Store in a sense. For example, instead of a Lucky Simoleon Casino with slot machines and blackjack (and the later add-on of roulette and poker) and trying to figure out where it would fit best in the worlds, they could have a Lost Wages Game Pack, with the gambling but also fancy hotels with swimming pools and pool slides, and a lot more glitzy clothes and hair styles. Good place for my Criminal Sims to do some pickpocketing. :)

I think they made a official announcement because of the leak.

It's just DLC, like a lot of games have. Not an SP (more than just stuff) but not an EP (not in-depth enough). I guess to put it in sims terms, it's a more beefy version of TS3 Store content.

I agree, completely. I'm just hoping "the more beefy version of TS3 store content" works as intended for everyone who purchases without having to turn to modders to fix it for us.

If it's the cost of a stuff pack it'll be $20 AUD, not the rumored £20... Which is actually $40 AUD.

    Either way, we shall see.

I imagine it will. I don't think TS3 was built with what the Store ended up being in mind, but TS4 most certainly was built to accommodate this kind of DLC.

It could be, but I don't think so. Since they have officially announced that it will be released next month. And they normally make an official announcement on the release of something a month or so in advance. :)

Fancy word for TS 4 store and more micro-transactions.. I like camping but it better be some awesome gameplay involved in this pack. I want detail like in the Christmas pack (not game pack).. I want things to match. Been playing on and off and every house I build and décor looks like it fell down the rabbit hole.. >.> The clothes look dull and funless...

Most of all I want fixes for what they broke with the last patch...>.>

Then we'll talk about my wallet!

If it's anything like World Adventures it certainly won't be skinny.
If it has the same quality I will buy.

Agreed. When I was playing last night, "Wow! This game would be perfect if they could go CAMPING!!!" did not come to mind. What did come to mind is, "Man...this would be complete if it started to rain right now". (Oddly enough, IRL, it started raining. LOL)

I like rain and snow in game -- when I'm snug in my PJs on the computer playing, preferably with a cup of herbal tea at my side. o:)

Because I don't like sunshine? Yes, I'm serious.

@stilljustme2 Usually I am snug in clothes (my comfy ones), usually late at night with coffee and baileys Irish crème, with my cat annoying me lol!

lol that doesn't make you odd, do you even know how many people prefer cold and rain over sunshine? Lots of people :) I even have a friend that likes cold so much he wears t-shirts in the winter, and here temperature can get to 0 ºC sometimes even less so...
