I completely agree! To me, pre-teen is almost a must. the transition from child to teen is the most drastic one of them all. The preschool one people are suggesting would be cool, but I'd be ok without it. Another really cool one would be something between adult and elder like some people have suggested. Here's my suggestion of arrangements
Baby
Toddler
Child
Preteen (middle school)
Teenager (slightly older in appearance than sims 3 teens)
Young adult
Adult
Middle-aged
Senior (instead of elder)
I think the young child should be more like a preschooler. And we definitely need a transition between Child and Teen and Adult and Elder.
Right now we have:
Baby - 0 to 1 year
Toddler - 1+ year to 4 years
Child - 5 years (kindergarten) to 15 years (cannot drive)
Teen - 16 years (can drive) to 20 years
Young Adult - 21 years to 30 years
Adult - 31 years to 64 years?
Elder - 65 years (retirement age) on up
It needs to be something like:
Baby - 0 to 1 year
Toddler - 1+ year to 2 years (learning to walk, talk, potty, etc. can't read books yet)
Preschool - 2+ years to 4 years (walking, talking, potty trained, reads books, sleeps in toddler bed or crib, a little more independent)
Child - 5 years (kindergarten) to 12 years
Preteen - 13 years to 15 years (cannot drive)
Teen - 16 years (can drive) to 20 years
Young Adult - 21 years to 30 years
Adult - 31 years to 50 years?
Mature - 51 years to 64 years (no more having babies)
Elder - 65 years (retirement age) on up
What do you think?
I think it would work better this way (using your layout) :
Baby - 0 to 1 year
Toddler - 1+ year to 2 years
Preschool (great idea) - 2+ years to 5 years
Child - 6 years to 10 years
Preteen - 11 years to 13 years (snotty years)
Teen - 14 years to 16 years (being able to drive after learning)
(added)Late teen - 17 yrs - 20 yrs(becoming more mature)
Young Adult - 21 years to 30 years
Adult - 31 years to 50 years
Senior- 51 years to 64 years
Elder - 65 years
It would be so much better to have more age stages.
But maybe with Sims 4 there will be gradual aging and gradual growing in size? What a variety that would give us - huge age variations and different heights of sims. A person can dream...
I've been begging this too!
My sister- when she's five, she has no look like a sims toddler. You look like that when you're 2. It stops around 4.
It's when children turn 8 that they look more like the children.
And preteens are just shorter then.
One more thing- I think Preteens should be able to hold the toddlers and babies. And young children (preschoolers) are too heavy to hold.
Baby= Same, But I do hope that they don't have the Larva looking Blankets. They should be wearing onesies that come in more colors than the obvious and notorious Pink and Blue and booties and they should have the option of having hair. I've never seen babies as bald as the sims babies.
Toddler= Same but with a little more interaction and things to do, maybe they can go to day care while the parents work or just to get them out of the house for the day.
Pre-schooler/young child= 4-6 Years. They go to school on a smaller school bus or the parents drive them and pick them up. I just think this stage definitely NEEDS to be added because the toddlers we have now are extremely boring. Cute but Boring.
Child= Same
Pre-teen= Same as what you described but also in this stage is where they start to go through the akward phases like getting little pimples.
Teen= Same
Young Adult= Same
Adult= Same
Mature Adult= They can no longer have kids in this stage of life. They're focusing on grandchildren, Retirement, maybe traveling. Mature Adults should be able to have Adult, and Young Adult sims as Children when you create them.
Elder= Same, More interactions because again they're cute but they are so boring to play.

A lot of these ideas sound really awesome! I really hope the Sims team see this thread and implements these ideas. I always wanted an age between toddler and child.
Thanks to everyone who likes this idea! I hope to add more to the main topic. I really hope they do add some kind of pre-teen age at least. I mean they added Young Adult to TS3 so why not add in a new age to bridge the gap between C and T?

These are just not realistic. You don't jump from being like 2 to 10, you don't jump from being 10 to 16 and you certainly don't jump from being about 40 to being 80 and waiting on the Grimm Reaper. I'm a big big family person and I have family members that are 5 and 6 and it's annoying that I have to either make them a toddler or practically a 10 year old. I hate that because i'm a control freak and it drives me nuts.
I definitely agree. It irks me that Sims go from looking like an 8 year old to looking like a 16 year old. I also agree with the Young child (Preschool) age.
WHat about a stage for around 80+? The Elderly-Elderly Stage. They have great grandkids, they have a lot of life experience, some maybe can't drive....

I really like this idea. However, Child should go down to 9 years and one becomes a preteen when 10. So like this:
Baby - 0 to 1 year
Toddler - 1+ year to 2 years (learning to walk, talk, potty, etc. can't read books yet)
Preschool - 2+ years to 4 years (walking, talking, potty trained, reads books, sleeps in toddler bed or crib, a little more independent)

Mature - 51 years to 64 years (no more having babies)
Elder - 65 years (retirement age) on up
That balances off the time spent enjoying each age group, as 13-15 would be way too short.
I like the idea, if it just splits the child age in half. It would be great if they would add a different school, like a middle school. Or at least put different doors for different ages. I hate that everyone goes to the same school, and it gets so crowded by the doors that they can end up late for school.
I've wanted preschoolers and preteens for a while, but I had no idea how much I wanted an age group between adult and elder until I read this thread.
I also just wanted to point out that men can continue to have babies until they die, so it would be silly for senior/elder men to lose their ability to have children. It makes sense for the women to do so, however.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
On the other hand it's great that so many like my ideas!
