These are really awesome houses. I'm currently doing a world based off of and mix of Japanese cities so I've been building tons of homes, unfortunately none meet the requirements for this contest T.T Great contest Yoda65 and good luck everyone!

Hi I built this park. it is Japanese style, but is 60x60, so I can't use it for this contest, but I thought I'd showcase it on this thread, just for the the spirit of Japan. I'm not putting any pictures Yoda because I know that It'll confuse you when you go through this forum.

    http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=4591554

    Look its the Kintai Bridge!!
This park comes with: A martial arts gazebo, Buddhist shrine, a beautiful bridge, a dining area, 5 rock gardens, a huge lake, and a beautiful path. Also many beautiful viewing areas with fountains and statues. Perfect for storytelling. Who can find the hidden Hot tub?!? (please recommend).

Name of lot: Little Zen Garden
Chosen category: Japanese house with garden
    Link to download: http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=4590339
    Lot size: 30 x 30
    Description: tradition in modern style.
The 'bonsai'-trees surround the house like a 'hug', and the koi pond flows under the house which was built on stilts. There's a zen garden, a barbecue area, place to raise painting and logic-skills, a little veggie-garden, and a little fountain sculpture with rocks and flowers, also seats to relax. The lot was planned to be close to the surrounded environment, so no real fences cut it away from that.
The interior's style is modern minimalist: 2bedrooms, 1 bathroom, open living-dining area with tea-corner.
Much more pictures are on my showcase-thread (it was really hard to select only ten)

Notes: This lot was built in Riverview, but playtested in Hidden Springs - some pictures were made there, but because of the colour/light-differences of the two worlds, the terrain-paints became a bit 'weird'. I hesitated what to do, finally deleted some of them, and also made some little 'repairs' on the house, but the pictures were made before it.

I used the town-edit mode to surround the house with similar trees, and also some colourful ones. Because of the lot-size I didn't want to add higher trees to it (cherry-tree for example) for the easier gameplay. The lot was originally built on 25x30, but then changed to 30x30, because there weren't enough place for garden.

 because of the modern minimalist-style from me... what's more it was a hard decision from me to leave something white.

Whew, I thought I was never going to finish this. There doesn't seem to be much on the lot, very little furniture or rooms to decorate, and yet it's taken me longer than almost anything else I've built! For my entry I have haven't exactly made a temple, instead it's a Shinto Shrine, although as the Buddhist and Shinto traditions are so intertwined in Japan I guess it doesn't make a lot of difference. Many of the architectural elements are the same and Shrines and Temples often share the same site, or are in fact the same building. It is in no way an accurate depiction, but I have tried to include most of the main elements as well as making it a pleasing and entertaining place for sims to visit.

    Name of lot: Shinto Shrine
    Chosen category: Temple/Zen Garden
    Link to download: http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=4592682
    Lot size: 40x40
Description: A Chinese Garden commercial lot, modelled on a Japanese Shinto Shrine. Koi pond, martial arts training equipment, chess, telescope, WC's.

    screenshot_original.jpg

You enter through the torii, (gate), pausing at the temizuya (water-filled stone basin) to clean your hands and mouth according to ritual. Then carry on along the sando or approach to the shrine between the toro, the stone lanterns. The walk is lined with cherry trees, and is a popular spot to visit during the Hanami festivals. (Flower-viewing parties held when the sakura blossom in March and April.)
    screenshot_original.jpg

This leads to the koi pond, where many sims are tempted to stop and fish from the bridge.
    screenshot_original.jpg

The sando continues past the ablutions block, where you might be able to pick some juicy ripe cherries if you're lucky or can pause for a game of chess.
    screenshot_original.jpg

As you round the corner the sando begins to wend it's way up the hill, although if you go left instead you'll reach the martial arts training area.
    screenshot_original.jpg
    screenshot_original.jpg

At the top of the hill you get a great view of the main hall, the honden, which is enclosed by the tamagaki, the traditional fence. (At some shrines there are several 'layers' of fence, and only visitors of certain status are allowed through each. At many, no-one except the priests are allowed into the honden, instead there is a second hall called the haiden for visitors to use, but as far as I can tell from my sketchy research, pretty much every site is different and has it's own rules and layout.) My honden has a tiny zen rock garden to the left of it, a peaceful spot for sims to meditate.
    screenshot_original.jpg

To reach the honden (if you are allowed, and as this is the Sims, everyone is lol) you cross the bridge and pass between the komainu, the lion dog guardians of the shrine. The honden houses the shintai, (symbolic repositories of the kami, the spirits of nature), the mirror, sword and jewels (or in this case, jewellery box). Some honden have no shintai, as the spirits are housed by the land itself, sometimes a whole mountain, a tree, rock or waterfall nearby.
    screenshot_original.jpg
    screenshot_original.jpg

If you keep to the path instead of crossing the bridge, you will reach a small lookout point with a telescope. From here you can peer down into the ravine and see if anyone has found the second little martial arts training area.
    screenshot_original.jpg

Right, now I've finally got time to go back through the thread and have a proper look at all the entries, just the pics on page one tell me there's going to be some corkers  Good luck everyone!

Ummmm BadSeagull?...What's with these last minute stunning entries? *cough paintedlady cough :hunf: I'm feeling envious of your ingenuity. I can not make an arched bridge on a diagonal like that! I clicked the link and I sware I didn't consider not leaving a rec because of jealousy or anything like that. REALLY! In fact I never considered not leaving recs at any of the other ones that left me wishing I had thought of what they did...

    (Hope my sarcasm translates)

But seriously, it is stunning and I got rec #1  and I do have to catch up on some other recs as well.

lol Thanks originalsim and thank-you for the rec! I'm just on a reccing spree myself. It's last minute because there's never enough hours in the day  And the bridge.. is only a partially successful experiment I'm afraid. It's been driving me mental. See the little white mark in the photo? Foundation. It keeps disappearing and reappearing, I've tried to fix it and it goes away but then pops back up  And every time I fix it the deck of the bridge gets wonkier, so I've just let it be. It works fine though, simmies use it to fish from :) I WILL master CFE, one day. Maybe.

And no need to translate the sarcasm, it's my native language :)
