    You have two categories from which to choose for your build :
    . Japanese house with garden - Residential lot
    . Buddhist / Zen temple with garden - Community lot
    You can enter both categories or one. You are free to enter in either category but there will be only three winners.

    You can choose modern or classic style!! BUT! We cannot build a Japanese house without thinking Japanese.
    To build an authentic house or lot that honors the Japanese mindset, culture and traditions - research or experience living in Japan are required. While a community lot might fit a 40 x 40 sized lot, most Japanese would live in a space more like a 20 x 30 or smaller! There is no need for front yards, side yards and back yards. One garden space is enough with, perhaps, a very small plot for a produce garden. Lastly, interior decorating should be kept to the barest minimum.

    Architecturally, the house is a traditional Japanese house with no floor, built on one level, all in wood.

    Japanese house is not divided into specific parts. Outside the entrance area, said genkan, kitchen, bathroom and toilet, any part can in fact be a living room, dining room, or bedroom. Flexible living spaces explains the presence of several sliding panels, the shoji, in place of walls and windows fixed.
