How important is it to keep your laptop plugged in when using high performance when playing? :) Don't want to hurt it.

Very important, Typically high performance is tied to power settings, I have a setting on purpose that only high performance when plugged in so if I try to game without being plugged in the game will crash. but also it's been shown in tests even when not connected to power saving settings the battery can't keep up with the demand and most systems will suffer performance issues, like drop in fps and more. It's better to game plugged in but especially if the battery is old, but note even new batteries have issues

I guess I should also add the better the system the higher the need for power, for example I have a gaming laptop so serious processor and card so the battery simply can't maintain the right amount of juice for very long even though my battery is still strong and new- so I guess the weaker the system the longer it could play on battery but again all batteries aren't great for gaming
Agreed. I never play any game without my gaming laptop plugged and the dual cooling system running underneath.

Hi, I am experiencing the exact same problems!

Looking at the earlier comments I've got a feeling that I need to get my laptop to run the game using my second card (AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series). However when I follow the instructions posted, The Sims 4 does not appear on the list of applications in the AMD Control Panel.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks :)

hi @Linter93 if you ran the game at least once the ts4.exe file should be listed. but you can also pull the file to set up.

1. Right Click on desktop to select Configure Switchable Graphics
15g9u37.png

2. AMD Card Panel will open. Select at the bottom right hand the Add Application Button
212edlw.png

pull the Ts4.exe file from its location. here's my path i installed digital origin, im assuming this should be the same irregardless
2d8rjgg.png

select open and then the file should appear at the bottom of the AMD panel, the nexts steps are a bit unclear for me since i already have the file set up - so its probably just select High Performance and enter apply

This helped my computer issue but I hate the shades since it doesn't move gradually except for on the actual sims themselves but I just optimized everything so I'll recheck when I play later on

Hi, I can help you since I have an Nvidia.

Can you make sure you have picked Manage 3D settings and on the right of the pop up, pick the "Program Settings" tab instead of Global Settings.

If you don't have Manage 3D settings, can you take a screenshot of how your control panel looks like and also write down the version no. To find the version number, Help > about Nvidia Control Panel.

ok great by your pic you have completed the first three steps:

Step one: Right click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
Step 2: Once the program opens, select Manage 3D Settings
Step 3: Next, click on Program Settings

the next step is to click on the ADD
Step 4: Click on Add

vBDPejg.jpg

Step 5: In the pop-up, select The Sims 4 and click Add Selected Program.

lFPH5iG.jpg

Step 6: Click on the dropdown next to the number 2. and select High-Performance NVIDIA Processor

IQJEOBG.jpg

Step 7: Click on Apply.

KdD85Vo.jpg

Step 8: Click on Desktop and then make sure that Display GPU Activity Icon in the Notification Center is checked.

i0HX6ww.jpg

Step 9: Look at the bottom right screen of the taskbar. You should see a new icon there that is a black and gray square. You may need to click the little arrow to the left of the icons to find this icon. When the game is running, the icon will be colored as in the screenshot.

YMuXsfS.jpg

To confirm that everything worked, run the game. When it is up, you can click the square icon and you should see The Sims 4 listed as a program using the Nvidia GPU.

I hope this helps! Feel free to ask questions.

Yes, what you did is correct. If you are planning to play it on the 64bit version, make sure you add the "ts4_x64.exe" one as well.

gq0NkQM.png

And then follow the next few steps that Ceejay posted. :)

Thank you. The problem though, is that I do not have a dropdown for: Step 6: Click on the dropdown next to the number 2. and select High-Performance NVIDIA Processor. As you can see if my screenshot, it only says "Specify the setting for this program" after adding the program, which I have done.

Yes, I added the Sims program that is listed in the screenshot. I think maybe my laptop just uses the same card for everything?
Yea I don't see an Intel chip are you having issues?

I was having some on a separate thread and was recommended to come here, but I believe it is just a bug with larger household sizes. Thanks for your help!

It seems like you don't even have an Intel Graphics card in your computer or it might have been disabled by the manufacturer. After you have added TS4 and click "apply", can you start the game and go back to your desktop while the game is opened in and see if you have your Nvidia card running it? It's in Step 8 in the quote that ceejay posted.

Some ROGS do have the intel chip disabled. If its disabled in bios then the game will 100% use the nvidia card.
