Do you think if I uninstall Sims 4 and then switch my Nvidia to the "global" setting, restart, then re-install Sims 4, it might fix the graphics card issue?
I'm not a technical person, my "go to" is pretty much turning something on and off again, lol, but I though this might be worth a try if I can save my family from deletion.

Sorry know I don't. At this time it maybe best to wait for ea
I have switchable graphics cards in my HP laptop too and I also had the problem of my config.log file still recognizing my Intel card even though I was running Sims 4 with my Nvidia Geforce GT 650M (showing up in my Nvidia GPU activity monitor). Even though I have configured the Sims 4 to use my Nvidia card as the default graphics card several times, when I right click on the desktop icon, it still shows the integrated card as the default card. I have no idea why. So I always right click on the icon and click "Run with graphics processor > High-performance NVIDIA processor".
I had the same problem with the Sims 3, so I was able to fix this by editing the GraphicsCards.sgr file to convince Sims 4 I actually do have a GT 650M. Here's how I did it if anybody else wants to give it a shot.
Find The Sims 4 in your Program Files and go to Game > Bin. Here's mine: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin
Open the GraphicsCards.sgr file (in Notepad or other text editor).
Open your Config.log file from your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 folder. (also opens in a text editor)
Under the === Graphics device info === it should be showing your Intel card.
Look at the Chipset and get the Device number. This is mine: Chipset: Vendor: 8086, Device: 0166
Go back to your GraphicsCards.sgr file. CTRL+F and search for the name of your Nvidia (or ATI) graphics card. I searched for GT 650M.
Copy this line of text and paste it in right underneath. Mine looks like this: card 0x0FD1 "GeForce GT 650M" $cardLevelUber $resolutionHigh
Change the 4 numbers/letters after the 0x to the Device number. I changed 0x0FD1 to 0166.
Then CTRL+F and search for the Device number. You should come to a line with an Intel card on it. This is mine: card 0x0166 "Mobile IvyBridge GT2" $cardLevelLowmedium $resolutionMedium
Just delete it.
That's it.
Run your game and all of the graphics options should be significantly higher by default. In your Config.log file, the name of your graphics card should now show up. Note that Sims 3 would overwrite this file with every patch, so I saved a copy to my documents and will replace it after every patch. I have no graphics issues (or demon babies, thank goodness!) and the game runs great. I still run it in laptop mode though.
If you want to try this you should probably save a copy of the original GraphicsCards.sgr file first just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps!

Sure here it is. I've tried almost everything possible. Updated(re-installed drivers) tried "Run with graphic processor>High-performance NVIDIA processor"; changed it in NVIDIA Control Panel to TS4.exe and even the global settings. Nothing actually worked for me so far quite desperate. :(
This is actually very interesting solution. However, I can see in Config.log that it's actually recognizes my card and uses it. Still though it says I can't play this game. I have nVidia 860m.
@Azzenom have you posted your Config.log file? If you post the === Rating info === and === Graphics device info === sections, I'll check the driver against your dxdiag and upload a modified GraphicsCards.sgr file if you want to try that.

hmmm... you seem to have the latest driver and Sims 4 is properly recognizing it. You could try reinstalling your driver from the geforce site (sorry, I can't post links) or from your laptop manufacturers website. You could also try rolling back your driver in the device manager in case there's a problem with the latest version. If your driver works with other games, though, this probably won't help.
If your up for a little adventure, you could try modifying your GraphicsCards.sgr file to have your card recognized as another card. Delete the line for your card and change the Device number for another, very similar card to 1392. Be sure to save the original file in case of disaster! I have no idea if this will have any effect or cause any havoc so proceed at your own risk.
Otherwise, maybe another fellow simmer or a guru will have an answer for you tomorrow...

I have a nvidia so I tried the first method. However when I click the add button to add the sims 4 game I don't get the same window as shown. Mine just shows my desktop icons. Please advise
Edit: Disregard. I didn't have updated drivers so once I did that I followed the steps again and my baby glitch is gone. Yay. Normal baby. Thank you.
I played with the settings and still no change.
I do hope you know that I love the game and this little glitch is not stopping me from enjoying it, I just want to help in anyway I can
I really appreciate all your help, hopefully with more info we can figure out what is going on.
For starters, can you go to the Sims 4 folder in the Electronic Arts Folder in My Documents and open the file Config.log? It should open in Notepad. Then scroll to the Graphics Card Info section and copy the following information into a post (here is mine as an example):
Looking at the earlier comments I've got a feeling that I need to get my laptop to run the game using my second card (AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series). However when I follow the instructions posted, The Sims 4 does not appear on the list of applications in the AMD Control Panel.
Hi, I am experiencing the exact same problems!
Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks
hi @Linter93 if you ran the game at least once the ts4.exe file should be listed. but you can also pull the file to set up.
1. Right Click on desktop to select Configure Switchable Graphics
2. AMD Card Panel will open. Select at the bottom right hand the Add Application Button
pull the Ts4.exe file from its location. here's my path i installed digital origin, im assuming this should be the same irregardless
select open and then the file should appear at the bottom of the AMD panel, the nexts steps are a bit unclear for me since i already have the file set up - so its probably just select High Performance and enter apply
I have Nvidia geforce GTX 660M on Asus laptop. Sim 4 is not listed in the games section of the nvidia control panel. When I tried the steps listed in the first post I did not have the same options.
Sims 4 was not listed as being already on the computer so I clicked "Origin" something and managed to add " c\programfiles (x86)\origin games\thesims4\game\bin\ts4.exe (c\programfiles (x86)\origin games\thesims4\game\bin\ts4.exe).
I have no option to "select the preferred graphics program for this program."
I also have no option to "display GPU activity Icon".
I went back in game after making this change and came back out. The NVIDIA Control panel is still not listing Sims 4 as one of the games in its games section. It only has sims 3 and simcity listed.
I have not had any problems and my game is on ultra and looks great but thankyou for this guide!
i could not for the life of me work out why my graphics card was not detecting Sims 4, now i know how to add another game i have too thankyou:)
Please help me, I don't have a laptop, but I have I computer. The Sims 4 won't open for me! It's something about the video cards. But I don't know what to do! I am very frustrated and need help please! @ewilson

This thread is for laptops with dual graphics cards both integrated and dedicated.
Please create your own thread for your issue and post your DxDiag report if you're running Windows.
How important is it to keep your laptop plugged in when using high performance when playing? Don't want to hurt it.
Very important, Typically high performance is tied to power settings, I have a setting on purpose that only high performance when plugged in so if I try to game without being plugged in the game will crash. but also it's been shown in tests even when not connected to power saving settings the battery can't keep up with the demand and most systems will suffer performance issues, like drop in fps and more. It's better to game plugged in but especially if the battery is old, but note even new batteries have issues
I guess I should also add the better the system the higher the need for power, for example I have a gaming laptop so serious processor and card so the battery simply can't maintain the right amount of juice for very long even though my battery is still strong and new- so I guess the weaker the system the longer it could play on battery but again all batteries aren't great for gaming

This is actually very interesting solution. However, I can see in Config.log that it's actually recognizes my card and uses it. Still though it says I can't play this game. I have nVidia 860m.

Am I correct? Does it actually tries to use my nVidia card and still says I can't play on it?

> Azzenom have you posted your Config.log file? If you post the === Rating info === and === Graphics device info === sections, I'll check the driver against your dxdiag and upload a modified GraphicsCards.sgr file if you want to try that.
With pleasure! Thank you for your time.

hmmm... you seem to have the latest driver and Sims 4 is properly recognizing it.

Edit: Disregard. I didn't have updated drivers so once I did that I followed the steps again and my baby glitch is gone. Yay. Normal baby. Thank you.
When I run the game it kinda tries to load up, screen goes black for a second and then the error pops.
I have that same card but I was getting an issue with deformed and stretched sims. @ewilson1114 how is the game running for you??
Looking at the earlier comments I've got a feeling that I need to get my laptop to run the game using my second card (AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series). However when I follow the instructions posted, The Sims 4 does not appear on the list of applications in the AMD Control Panel.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
Thanks :)
hi @Linter93 if you ran the game at least once the ts4.exe file should be listed. but you can also pull the file to set up.
Help please?
i could not for the life of me work out why my graphics card was not detecting Sims 4, now i know how to add another game i have too thankyou:)
