That laptop will possibly run at low settings with laptop mode enabled. No expansions, stuff packs, or game packs. No patching either (you'll need to put Origin via offline mode to avoid the mandatory patching).
The Lenovo is at least has a dedicated GPU.

anything under £500 is preferable, to start with (£400 is even better as i could get it quicker but i of course want it to be good) sorry to ask probably obvious questions but what do you mean by the power supply?
those all look ok, do the changes in colour actually mean anything? i dont wanna sound silly but some desktops are so ugly, desktop sellers should start selling cute cases lol

I like the red one actually I love red. More fans the better. You can look at all the different cases and pm seller to ask questions about their different cases
ill keep em in mind! im looking around for some more, i dunno if buying an already made one is a better choice or customizing one. my only problem is i like sleeker looking ones and only have max £400-500

Sleeker and smaller cases not good as far as cooling. Its not about looks but hardware and how it games. Its important to have a good case where you can upgrade your pc, good cooling. You will not get a custom PC for 400-500 pounds where you get to pic out all good hardware. Your looking at 700 minimum maybe pounds but more.

This is the best you can do...

It is currently unknown if a GT 940M will survive the game however.

It will run on medium however...

You wont find anything in a 400 pound price range to run the game , about 800 pounds on a laptop and 600 pounds on a desktop
could you recommend a desktop that would run it?

Notifying @chesterbigbird since she is more experienced than me in building a desktop.
It'll run the Sims 4 well. You would need to upgrade the power supply and graphics card if you do wish to play demanding games in the future.
You can get the monitor cheaper elsewhere however. I can include a mouse and keyboard with it, if needed.
I suggest waiting for @chesterbigbird since she's more experienced than me.

Without the power supply, pretty much the desktop won't function.
If you want to go cheap You have your choice of color red, blue ,green. And have your choice of windows 10 or 7 -600 pounds or under

This is cheaper but the others I posted are better than this over all.
