Now that C&D is out, how would you rate it from 1-10?

icmnfrshicmnfrsh Posts: 18,789 Member
Just curious about people's overall impression after having played it for a few days. I would've made the range 0-10 (for those who really don't like it) but polls can only have up to 10 choices here. Responses are anonymous.

Personally I'd give it an 8. Overall it looks pretty solid to me, with maybe a few minor bugs (at least in my experience). It could go up to 9 if they fix the bugs and patch in "missing" features that I would've liked, such dogs being able to sleep on beds and a basic pet UI so we can at least see family trees and relationships. It doesn't really have that certain je ne sais quoi or wow factor that would make me give it a 10, though.

In case anyone's curious, here's a running tally that shows the average of the ratings :)

I'll be waiting a few days before voting as well. I mainly got it for the world which I'm already in love with so there's that. Also loving most of buy mode and cas looks great.

Will update after I play around a bit more.

I gave it a weak 7. If they put in some more play interactions with the puppies, since the kittens have them, and fixed up a bit of the bugs then it'd increase to at least 8 or 9. But the puppy stage, the most important stage, seems way to skinned. Kittens can play, prowl and do other stuff besides cuddling, so puppies should be able to at least have some playing abilities, if not a bit of training and going for a walk ability. Gods, who sends their puppy out alone to "potty"? That doesn't even make sense, you leash your puppy and teach it to get comfortable with the leash, then you might unleash it a bit in a safe area.

At the same time, the puppies and kittens do look adorable, and the adult phase is great. Just wish that first crucial stage was better.

Interesting points. :) It's good to hear feedback because we can discuss areas of improvement, which the devs might take into account. As for me, I haven't played with puppies yet, but I'll try them soon. They do look very cute, going by the previews, so I'll give them that.

Actually, here are my big 4 negative issues that lands it in a weak 7. ->
    * More pet + pet interactions, I kinda don't like how they seem to just ignore each other and not even notice the other is there
    * Options to do actual play with the puppy (anything else is really unrealistic, it's a puppy, not a decorative doll)
    * We should be required to house train our puppies, that's not something they should already know + more misbehavior's frequently happening so we can train those
    * General bug fixes

That's the bigger disappointments so far, that's been distracting me. Otherwise there's tons of good stuff, like the adorable sounds they make and the realistic way they move. I love watching them, I just wish there was more to do with them.

I gave running my own vet a try, it was a one way road to misery. Your social plummets down unless you close early so you can socialise with friends. Sometimes cats run off and jump on park tables so you can't examine them. Employees are slow and take all day just to examine 1 pet. And god forbid if you get a pet that vomits whilst you're already examining one because it will not stop vomiting and will completely cover your floor in vomit.

Next time I'll avoid the vet career and see what raising a pet is like instead.

The vet is more of a bonus side feature to me, so it doesn't have much of a bearing on my opinion. I'll just go over it in one save file, and come up with thoughts on it too. Much of my opinion is based on the pet gameplay, which I like so far.

On that note, here are my main concerns:
    - Dogs sleeping on beds (I'm really keen on this one, because ours just loves snuggling up to the humans on their beds)
    - More and better pet beds
    - Missing UI. I can get behind not controlling pets, but it would be nice to see other info about them.
    - Doghouses (it just doesn't feel right without them)
    - Bowls sometimes disappearing when you leave home and go back
    - Pets not having much to do in the spice district of San Myshuno (in my experience, they didn't move at all)

Yeah, I just adopted a puppy, and they do seem to be able to do less than adult dogs.

Though she did have the jumpy trait and hid under the couch when my sim played the violin. It was adorable to see. :D

Edit: I had my sim pick the puppy up, and he has the option to "hold up cuteness". And yeah, it is adorable. :)

i voted 6, which makes me happy that i didnt pay the full price.
    why 6?
AS FAR AS I CAN TELL - no strays in other worlds...at least not in san myshuno. WHY ARE THERE NO STRAYS EVERY WHERE?
and why cant you at least see how old your pet is? how skilled it is? ok, I cant control them, thats fair...but at least show my SOME info!
and if I cant control the pets, how can I tell them to go potty? How is that logical?

Yeah, it was announced before that strays only appear in Brindleton. Your mileage may vary on that one, because some people will probably be annoyed if strays were everywhere. I don't mind either way.

I do want some basic pet UI too. It would be nice to see relationships, family trees, and ages.

Someone wrote in another thread that you can have strays show up in the other worlds by placing the cat/dog-friendly lot traits there.

    3.

The Create-A-Pet mode is the best it's ever been and then it feels like new content stops there. You can't control the pet and I haven't found any interesting interactions yet. It's a well-done inclusion but as an Expansion Pack really feels limited to what it's offering, more like a Game Pack. I feel that the Vampires Game Pack offered more variety in gameplay content than this, though I understand why this is an EP given the amount of resources put into Create-a-Pet.

Unfortunately Create-a-Pet just doesn't give longterm mileage, so I just wish there was something else, too. Werewolves. Pet shows, horse races, or some other pet-activity. More pets or wildlife. ...or the ability to actually control the pets so they feel like more than just mobile furniture to interact with or say "oh that's cute" about.

I kind of regret I can’t see who voted what, because for me that matters concerning Sims 4. When one player hands out an 8 that’s got an entirely different meaning than when another one does it (same goes for the low figures: does an overall Sims 4 fan do that, or someone who didn’t even buy the pack and likes to troll a little). Really curious about the pack.
(this is not meant as criticism towards this poll, I can see how anonymity can work in a poll as well, just a personal perspective)

I figured it would be a lot more hairy if it wasn't anonymous.

I don't think we can ever have a truly objective 1-10 scale. What an 8 means is different for each person, and yes there might be trolls, but I assume that most posters vote in good faith. This is mostly just a subjective pulse check on C&D, given the mixed reactions in the months leading to its release. :)

Still too early for me to rate it since I haven't even been to the vet clinic or done anything with adult pets. But the Build/Buy mode objects and Brindleton Bay alone raise its rating quite a bit for me so far.

I rate it a 9 (I guess I could rate it a 10 but in my eyes, there's always room for improvement lol). Anyway, why? Because for all that's not always right with sim personalities (although it's improved), the pets personalities so far are amazing. They're just all so different from each other, have their own quirks and obsessions, their own fears. Some bark more, others less. Some cats apparently love roombas, mine don't (and I'm excited about this, cause I thought it'd be one of those always-the-same features). Some pets eat a lot, never sleep in their pet beds, or next to it, or next to their owners. And that's just from the few things I've personally experienced. I'm playing a Border Collie and she's so much like most RL BCs I know, it's ridiculous. She runs around the house for no reason, barks at things, seems afraid of everything, doesn't eat too much, is super super nice and active, loves going for walks and is very happy & relaxed when trained. I'm also playing an Afghan hound just to see if and how they differ and it's just an entirely different dog. Adopted a second Afghan, again an entirely different dog. The traits fit, but there's somehow more under the hood than the traits alone. Would I like to see their needs? The first 2-3 hours, yes. After that I realized that just like real pets, you're getting a lot of hints as to why they're doing what they're doing. You have to figure them out, not only take care of their needs. And it's just really cool. I personally don't love TS2 pets, and I also don't love TS3 pets (both for different reasons: in TS2 they were almost too needy and wild, and in 3 it's just too easy to make them behave as you want cause .. well you can control them, so there's that). Here they feel ... like pets? I was worried they'd be mechanical or all the same or drawn more by object dominance than traits, but so far around 20 hours in? It doesn't feel like that at all. I'm so entertained and I haven't seen so much the pack has to offer. I haven't even seen pets interact with toddlers! Cause it's not in my story yet, but I'll get around to it. The vet career simply works (for me) as I feel it was intended. Idk ... there's so much content, so much to do. It's by far the best TS4 EP to date in my opinion. And I say that as a person who thought she didn't need pets. Now, I don't know how to play without them xD

For me it is more interesting to see the development in the poll than the poll itself (and no I don’t play the game anymore and I therefore didn’t vote) because what really interest me is if and for how long the first enthusiam will be there? Is this really an EP that people want to continue playing even after having played it for a week or two?

I'm sure it will be less exciting after a while than now but it's like that with every game for me :) I have to say that most of the concerns I did have were unfounded and that I'm duly impressed with what they've managed to do to make pets come alive. I think this EP will please people far more than CL which I like a lot but I think I rated it a solid 7. That's still about right but it brought the game to a place I enjoyed a lot. So much I liked TS4 again. This EP right here after also having parenthood and vampires truly makes me love it.

Currently rating it as a 5.

I was kind hoping to see my dogs needs but thats ok, I get why they opted out of that. But anyway, I really wish they would make the dogs height true to size. I know they make all the sims the same size and stuff but I wish there was a slider for size. OR even a couple of buttons! Just something to make it so sims come in all shapes AND sizes, and so that it can be a get way into making dogs breeds more realistic with their irl heights. My dog's head irl meets my hip. In the game, the big dogs only reach up to my thigh. and the chihuahua's are are big as beagles? what? XD

There have been huge differences between my game though - which also was the reason for my comment. I have tried hundreds of games and most of them I don’t even remember anymore because they were only interesting for a short time. But the best games I still remember because I played them all the time for a period of something like one to two years.

Some people in this forum call us haters if we don’t play the game anymore. But I’m not. The reason that I stopped and don’t buy expansions for TS4 anymore just is that even though I am still a little curious about them I think that I would only play them for about a week while I explored the content and then stop playing the game anyway. My feeling just is that while the expansions for TS4 still interest me I don’t really believe that I would continue playing them after I had explored them because I just don’t see enough depth in the game. So I play other games instead :)

Yeah in that case I wouldn't buy it either (you're not a hater just coz you don't play something :)). That's never happened to me though, I sometimes don't play it (like every game), but when I do I play it a ton actually. So yes, for me personally, as a person that can enjoy TS4, it's worth it. If you mostly or really don't of course, that's another story ;)
