Loved your modern mansion for the QC challenge, so happy you figured out not only the landscaping but got to add in a gym! The roof on that build was really striking, and perfect for a modern style.
Your current build looks wonderful! Quite the difference from the modern (exterior wise) but you have put in so many clever details It looks wonderful! Also a fun idea to take a traditional or old style build and make the interior modern! How fun you are getting the hang of the modern style interior and having so much fun with it
I see you experimenting with the TAB too, haha! That's awesome
@rosemow thank you for the referral, Bryonyrae has been helping me figure it out
@amiutza haha cool! I'm still trying to figure out some of the pathing but can let you know once I finish!
@equuest Thank you! When I was building it, I knew I wanted there to be a part of it where the 2 styles clashed side by side. I figured the basement would be a good location for that and an elegant female "man-cave" seemed the coolest option haha.
@laebeth Thank you for the amazingly kind words and encouragement! The modern build was definitely a challenge, as I'm much more used to the older styles like the Parisian house. The Parisian house has definitely been very enjoyable to build! I did try to put in a lot of small gems here and there haha, like the ship sailing in the pond or the workbench in the attic or even the ships sailing on the wings of the statues haha (I guess I went overboard with the ships... get it haha). I'm trying to fix some pathing on it before I can finally link it to the Gallery. It is definitely the favourite thing I have built. Tab has been awesome too! Except sometimes the angles look weird haha, but not sure what to do about that.
Your Parisian house turned out so wonderful, loving all the amazing detail on the exterior of the house and in the beautiful landscaping! And awesome idea to give the house modern exteriors (except that gorgeous she-cave )! Hope you manage to fix those last few pathing issues and get this beauty uploaded soon!
@Corwim thanks so much! Been working way too hard to get all the pathing fixed and then I had to fix some issues when it was placed and the waterfall didn't work haha. But finally done and linking soon! And thanks for those wonderful comments, the she-cave was definitely awesome to build
Finally fixed all the pathing issues in my Parisian house! Ended up actually having to redo a lot of things, pathing is much more complex than I ever realised haha. I also got rid of a lot of random clutter and lights in an effort to make the interior feel more natural. Also the waterfall does not look like what it does in the pictures, had to replace the rocks with plants because they wouldn’t place correctly, but it yet looks nice I feel
Story of the house:
When Ms. #Baroque met Mr. #Modern it was amour at first sight! But they couldn't decide on a style, thus a compromise: buy a Baroque house and replace the inside with ultra-#contemporary furnishings! Who wants #17thcentury appliances anyway? Ms. Baroque, though, couldn’t give up her beloved style and snuck in a #Parisian #woman-cave! #noCC #French #Renaissance #mansion #family #flowerbed #undergroundpool #hometheatre #balcony #openfloorplan #waterfall #statues #playtested #winecellar #attic
Because women can have man-caves too, but just classier! Now, however, the quirky couple has moved to the French country and their home is yours to explore and take care of! There are many small details to delight your sims in ever nook and cranny. This is likely the most detailed build I have ever attempted. I wanted to go for a clashing styles theme, modelled after the many old buildings in Europe that have recently been renovated inside. In my pictures I placed the lot in the middle of an urban area, however, I imagine it would work well in a more country lot as a decadent maisonette. Enjoy!
Note that you do NOT have to have MOO on to place the lot. I tried both with and without and everything places the same way
(Apologies again for all the pictures, I’m trying to work on my picture taking abilities in general, with lighting, angle, zoom, height, location, etc. Feels like I’m getting a tad better since last time haha).

Front and rear roof accents, these were definitely my favourite part of the entire build, just adore that European style of tympanums. Can also see the balconies here with a sitting and meditation area, quiet places to get away from all the bustle going on outside. The front accent I call the Winged Ballerina, and the rear the Winged Knight haha (yes I got super excited when I saw an item that could work as wings from Dine Out, and could work as waves! I couldn't decide between wings or waves so now they are wings with ships sailing on them haha):
Now for the inside! Which goes to ultra-modern style. First the dining area:
The super long kitchen:
The theatre-esque living room:
Ground floor parlour bathroom:

Overview of basement floor. This part is quite cool because this is where the "woman-cave" is haha, which is the only Baroque style indoors. I created a path which splits to Baroque on one side and modern on the other, which I felt symbolised the build overall quite well haha. And of course there's the wine cellar, which is always good lol:
And here's that clashing style hallway, modern to the left and Baroque to the right haha:

Anyway, so sorry for the giant wall of text and pictures! I went a bit crazy with the tab mode and general excitement over finally finishing and fixing pathing haha.
The Parisian Home is so very nice! It is such a very special and detailed build! The exterior design of the building, the landscaping of the front area of the build, the layout of the interior, and the furnishing of each of the rooms and areas of the home looks so very nice! Each area is designed very well! The roof accents do look very special! The winged ballerina is a nice touch. The different styles used in the build looks very nice.
It is great that you have sorted out the build issues and have uploaded your special home
@Nore - I cannot even begin to imagine how long this amazing creation must have taken, there is so much to look at, I have to say, that I adore the fountain at the front of the building. You did such an amazing job with the architecture and the wall treatments roofing elements you have used out here really help cement the style. Inside you did such a great job mixing the two contrasting styles and I just love that little coat room
@Nore - holy moly! Your incredible attention to detail, and obvious patience with your builds, continues to amaze me! I love your lush interiors, the awe-inspiring exteriors, and your ability to transform everyone build into something beyond imagination. Well done!!!
@rosemow Thank you It took some time but finally finished in the end haha.
@FaithofKaela Thanks for those kind words! It definitely took a while haha. Kept returning to it to fix just one more thing The fountain is definitely one of my favourite parts too, and it seemed to be the ideal choice of landscaping to match the lavish French Baroque style. The tympanums as well on the roofs were crucial as you mentioned in cementing the style, also a favourite of mine haha, they were very enjoyable to make. Thanks for your comments on the coat area as well haha. It doesn't have any practical function but seems like every rich house should have one in the entrance hall
I commented on a few on your builds in other threads, your skill is amazing!
@misscbong Thank you! And congrats again on your maxis fave! It was well deserved. This was definitely the most detailed build I ever attempted and likely might ever attempt haha. It took waaaaaaay too long. I'm glad you felt the build was lush and awe-inspiring, that's exactly how I would describe the French Baroque style and the exact feel I wanted to capture. My next few builds are smaller to take a break haha.
Thanks guys again for your amazing words about 'When Modern Meets Baroque'! I spent a ton of time playtesting and making sure it all worked with no flickering, according to the guidelines EA/Maxis set out for Maxis Faves. It was quite enjoyable and learnt so much
In an attempt to improve my picture taking skills and fix pathing issues I learnt from my French Baroque house, I redid the modern mansion a bit. I now call it Butterfly Mansion, because of the "wings" balconies in the aerial view haha. I tried a lot of new stuff in an attempt to work with time of day and the sun, angles, etc.
I feel I have gotten much better at not just taking pictures of every area haha. Sometimes angles work out it seems. For instance, I wanted to get the dining area in the ground floor picture but couldn't fit it with both the kitchen and living area. But then in my picture of the stairs and chandelier, you can see the dining area haha. So much to learn about taking indoor pictures yet!
My latest build moves to the Mediterranean style. I built it as a request for @Rumpelstiltskin It was quite difficult to build my first starter and budget when I'm so used to never paying any attention to that haha (A biiiiiiiiiig thank you to everyone who offered advice and tips along the way!!!!!!!).
I called it Desert Toddlers Family Starter. Note, you must delete the chandelier, cars and toddler toys to get it to a starter price It fits well into the style of Oasis Springs and I built it on the empty lot in the starter zone that costs 1500 (the desert sands lot not the grass one).
The revised version of the Modern home looks very nice! It is a very detailed and very creatively designed build! The layout of the build and the furnishing of each of the areas looks very nice.
Very nice exterior design of Desert Toddlers Family Starter! The layout and the roofing area is very nice, and car port looks great! The types and placement of the windows in the build look very nice. The plants are nice touches either sides of the front door. Very nice upper balcony art nook. Sims will have nice views whilst painting on the easel or sitting resting on the seat. It is a nice picture that you have taken through the archway of the art balcony. Very nice layout of the interior. Nice windows dining area for sims to enjoy eating a meal with sunlight coming in through the windows. The patterned flooring is a nice touch,The food pictures are a nice touch on the dining, living and kitchen areas. It looks nice how the beds are placed in the bedroom Very nice outdoors pond and toddlers play area! The lily pads in the water and the swans on the edge are nice touches. Toddlers will have fun playing with the toys from the cart and on the slide. The car looks great placed under the garage door.
It is a very nice starter
Your finished Parisian house looks absolutely stunning and wonderfully detailed! I'm so glad to hear you were able to resolve all the pathfinding issues (haha, those can be a real drag I know ).
Fantastic job as well on your Desert Toddlers starter house! Building starter houses is something I have yet to master lolz, soooo hard to stay on budget! You did wonderful here, love the mediterrenean villa style architecture and the landscaping turned out so pretty.
@Nore - Your Butterfly Butterfly Mansion is just amazing! I envy your creativeness, I just could never have come up with something that looks like that, you, are a genius! And you already know how much I adore your Toddler starter, having finished a couple of Med style homes myself, I know how difficult it can bet o create the right sort of vibe, but you got it! Using the blind as a garage door is such a unique idea!
@rosemow A big thank you as always! Your amazing words always lift my spirits when I'm feeling down I always know that even if no one else likes my build, I at least know you'll have something awesome to say haha! Thank you again for the congradulations!!
@Corwim haha yes, it took a while but the Baroque house was finally finished. I'm in no hurry to start a huge build like that again haha. The budget was definitely the hardest part for Desert Toddlers haha. Thank you again for those wonderful comments!!
@FaithofKaela Thank you You already know I'm a fan of your builds as well haha. I'm not sure how I came up with the layout for Butterfly Mansion. I usually just google a bunch of pictures of a style I'm trying and combine them and it is either a mess or fairly cool haha. So I wouldn't say I'm *that* creative haha, just research a lot. The blinds as a garage door was also something I saw somewhere, I cannot recall exactly who did it first, but full credit to them! Thank you so much again for the nomination, I'm glad EA/Maxis liked it.
Finished the exterior of my latest build. It began as a starter for Brindleton, but then I figured I might as well make it my holiday project since I wanted to do something like that now haha. I'm glad I did
I must admit this is likely the most creative lot I have ever built. I spent wayyyyy too much time researching and then scrolling through ever item endlessly in an effort to create the stuff I had in mind. In the end, it was very enjoyable to do some holiday stuff that we don't otherwise try for the rest of the year haha. My goal was to stay true to the Cape Cod style of the expansion and create a house that was decorated for Christmas rather than being entirely Winter-themed. I also wanted to somehow create a partially melted snow effect, which was way more difficult now than in TS3 where we had terrain tools and snow haha.
Anyway, some of the features I tried to include were some snow effects on the ground, roof and trees, a wonderful Nativity scene that is likely my favourite part of the entire build followed in second by Santa's sleigh led by Rudolf on the roof (actually had to google how many reindeer there should be haha), a custom Christmas tree with toys that I built in front, and a Christmas-themed porch dining area (had to get very creative with outdoor enclosed areas so none of the many items I raised with 9/0 would fall when the lot was placed haha). Haven't begun on the interior furnishing yet, but I'm planning at least a cool trainset idea and some Holiday paintings!
Anyway, enough yapping. Should just link some pictures
Your Cape Cod Style home decorated for Christmas looks so very pretty ! Very nice design of the exterior! The roofing and upper balcony looks very nice! The reindeers pulling Santa and his sleigh are such a very special festive touch on the roof! The white string lights look very nice through the areas of the exterior! The wreath is a nice touch on the upper balcony door and the flower box windows are a nice touch. It looks so very lovely and very special how you have done the Nativity scene! It is so very creatively nice! Very nice Christmas tree area! The snow is a nice touch on the tree and the presents and toys are nice around the base of the tree . The snowman is cute there! Very nice curved porch outdoors dinng area! Sims will enjoy cooking meals on the bbq and sitting at the festive table, eating the meal and having a drink from the bar in the outdoors air, They will enjoy looking at the pretty silvery Christmas tree whilst dining. The white and yellow flowers look nice either sides of the front entrance. The snow in the trees, on the roof and on the ground in the build looks great! Very nice art nook area in the backyard. It is a nice touch that an umbrella is over the top of the easel . The white lit tree is pretty in the build.
It is such a very creatively designed Christmas holiday cottage!
I will look forward to seeing the furnished interior also!
Been working a lot of my Christmas home I redid the exterior a bit (had to use those new items haha) and finished the ground floor! It has three separate Christmas themed areas, the Golden Christmas Kitchen, Classic Christmas Living, and Winter Wonderland Dining . For the exterior, I decided to keep the tree I created. The in-game tree drew too much attention from the other parts of the front because of how bright it is haha. The layout took forever haha, I tried extremely hard to make everything seem like an actual house, from plant selection to clutter to layout . My original goal began as a starter for Brindleton without it being intended for the holidays. Doing so allowed me to imagine how someone might decorate a regular house for the holiday rather than starting it as holiday-themed. I tried to create a winter lot with snow that wouldn't look out of place without the snow mods, mainly by creating the partially melted snow look so that the snow did not have to reach the edges of the lot and thus it could be placed in a green lot Credits for the paintings and pictures go to Tiya33 and Jessie0905. Everything including the paintings are not CC Once I finish the upper level, it'll finally be finished and ready for the Gallery haha.
Some of the key new features I particularly enjoyed making are: the partially frozen fountains in the backyard, the trainset Christmas village and all the cool winter paintings
Anyway, some pictures
The redone front, upon some excellent advice I removed the lower hanging light string from the entrance and used much stronger pillars to support the balcony:
The new Nativity scene, finally located an item that would work as a roof haha. I feel it is finally complete
The new Santa, featuring a stack of gifts haha. I call him the Boss Santa, because he's just coolly holding a tower of gifts with one arm haha. I knew I had to use something to go over the surfboard, and the gift tower ended up working really well in the way it fit snugly into Santa's arm.
All new backyard
Decided to go with a bbq and small garden for the upper balcony:
New painting nook and partially frozen fountain. Also just had to throw the new cool snowman in somewhere haha, even if he is sand not snow
Small campfire area by the pond. Not sure if I should keep this, or how authentic it is to have a campfire in a residential home. I have never lived in a cabin before though so I don't know haha. It just seemed like a nice place to make s'mores.
The living room featuring my favourite indoor feature, the small trainset Christmas village It took forever to make the tracks but I feel it ended up quite cool. The plane and helicopter are actually flying mid-air which is hard to tell in the picture. And if you look closely you'll see one of the gnomes is running to not miss his train and the superheroes on the roof of the station are laughing at him
The entrance hall featuring a number of winter paintings.
The other part of the entrance hall with a view to the Kitchen tree, a coat room, and although the dumb chandelier is blocking the view of Starry Night, a couple of Van Gogh's. At least you can see his wonderful face I guess haha.
Kitchen featuring a fridge built directly into the wall
Had to show the rest of the Kitchen for the puppy picture alone haha.
And my next favourite interior area, the Winter Wonderland Dining room featuring some amazing Christmas village paintings and a fully set dining table
Overview of the floor. I struggled quite a bit with the layout at first, as the space was much smaller than I realised haha. I actually built nearly the entire living room on both ends to see where it fit better. In the end though I feel the hallway and room placement felt natural, with the kitchen nearest the dining, and even the parlour bathroom off the hallway.
The ground floor of the home looks so very nice! The themes of the living, dining and kitchen rooms are great! Very nice furnishing of the rooms! They are very detailed and special Christmas decorated rooms. The white/silver and blue colour scheme of the Winter Wonderland dining room looks very effective and pretty! The pictures on the walls add a special touch to the rooms.
The Angels are a nice special touch on the stable roof. The surfing Santa looks great with the reindeers on the roofing!
The changes to the outdoors areas, and the furnishing of the interior looks so very nice!
I'm in love with your Parisian House! It's just so...perfect hahaha! I loved the story, it's so funny, lighthearted and creative I'm going to check your gallery profile right away x ♥
@FaithofKaela Thank you Who wouldn't like Santa being a boss haha!
@Lordkiribati Thank you for your wonderful comment! I spent a ton of time with it, I'm sure you'll enjoy exploring all the tiny details haha. It is available on my Gallery if you wanted to see it Could I ask what story you're referring to though haha. I'm a bit confused, but am glad you enjoyed it anyway haha!

The Angels are a nice special touch on the stable roof. The surfing Santa looks great with the reindeers on the roofing!
The changes to the outdoors areas, and the furnishing of the interior looks so very nice!
